A friend of mine from London called me a "shirt lifter" because I am into Bond and stuff...does anyone know what this means?

I'm not British (but I do teach their literature), yet I know what it means. . .a gay man. Sounds like your friend needs to find a life.

That must just be your friend's personal view or prejudice. I've lived in the UK my whole life, 35+ years and have never ever had anyone infer that I was a shirt lifter or gay because I like James Bond.
Whether male or female, they either hate him or they don't, it's as clear cut as that.

Just as I have never said that to anyone who likes Star Wars Characters or Indiana Jones etc.

    Weird...

Of course, if you were literally into Bond... :D

I think he is refering to buying clothes, watches, etc and dressing like Bond.
