QoS U.S. Release Moved to November 14

It's official: according to ComingSoon.net, MGM/Sony have decided that, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince dropped as a Thanksgiving release, November 14 will be a better day to debut QoS in America. That means us Yanks have to wait two freakin' weeks after the Brits get it! Anyway, here's the story:

Quantum of Solace Moved Back a Week

Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures announced today that it will release Quantum of Solace on November 14th in North America. "The strategic move places the highly-anticipated James Bond adventure one week closer to the prime movie-going holiday window and takes advantage of last week's decision to move the release date of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,'" said the studios.

"We saw the film recently in London and Marc Forster, Daniel Craig and the entire team at EON have truly delivered another extraordinary Bond adventure," said Jeff Blake, Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for the Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Group. "'Quantum of Solace' is a seamless continuation of the storyline that began with the last film. We believe November 14th is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas. The Bond films have a long history of entertaining audiences in this holiday corridor going back to Goldeneye in 1995. The studio enjoyed tremendous success opening 'Casino Royale' in North America on November 17, 2006, and we believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday."

Quantum of Solace will begin its worldwide roll out on October 31.

The move makes Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa the only wide release on Nov. 7 (at least for now), and puts Quantum of Solace up against Australia, Nothing Like the Holidays, Role Models and Soul Men on Nov. 14.

Well, at least Bond won't go head-to-head with any CG animals this time around. . .

And me as well, as my Hardy-smacked thread ignominiously confirms ;%

Terrible news for American Bond junkies desperately in need of a fix---and an appropriate exclamation point on the day/week I've had... :# Time for a lie-down.

    "Hardy-smacked?"

Anyway, now I'm wondering what they'll do with all the posters--like the ones they have at the local mall theater--with "NOV 007" on them. A lot of paper gone to waste. . .

    :D

At any rate...it will be a difficult extra seven days for me, that much is certain. While I'm virtually immune to spoilers, it will likely be an impossible task to read reviews for fourteen straight days before seeing it with my own eyes.

I can easily envision time tangibly slowing down---as it so frequently does at my day job---during the lag-time between 31st October...and 14th November :'(

If it were up to me I would open on the same day in both the U.K. and the US.

I mean MGM did that for both Die Another Day and Casino Royale and I am sure that helped them make money by the truckload in really fast.

Still a least it's being moved to next year like many films currently are thanks to the writers stike n Hollywood.

They wanted more time for editing so why not just move the release date back everywhere and gain a little more editing time? That way no one gets the movie two weeks before anyone else either. Works for everyone!

Does anyone know when the Australian release date of the film is? I'm very eager to go and see it.

Probably just as well that QoS' US opening was moved to November 14; Madagascar 2 debuted with $63.5 million this weekend and I have a feeling the family friendly CGI fest would have trounced Bond badly at the box office.

Madagascar 2 will definitely have a dropoff next weekend but it'll probably still bite into QoS' boxoffice since it doesn't seem to be as "family friendly" a Bond film as prior entries.

Those CGI lions and penguins sure are tough little critters.

Yes indeed, Craig's Bond has been defeated by CGI penguins once already...Happy Feet, anyone?

Madagascar will be in its 2nd week (stateside) as QoS debuts, though. I don't think the CGI critters will hold the line...

    Or at least...I hope they don't! :007)
