It doesn't have to have that title. Eg:

"Bond Back In Action Again" (GF)
    "Exercise At Gibraltar" (TLD)
    a.o.

Yes, I realise that, but it would have removed the uncertainty of whether or not there's a gunbarrel in Q of S.

Many gunbarrels are notoriously absent from Bond soundtracks. This was somewhat rectified about 5 years ago when some of the scores were reissued and expanded.

I'm not too bothered. I'd have it only during something really Bondian. Over use reduces its effect.

A brand new video report with David Arnold gives us a taste of his latest score for QoS:

There's something on ainticool about the gunbarrel, SW. This spoiler is about the gunbarrel only, nothing else:
It isn't at the beginning of the movie but it is there

They do. First impressions- some of it sounds like DAF! That's a good thing- the movie DAF isn't at the top of the tree, but the music certainly is.

Unfortunately there isn't really a bold statement of the James Bond Theme in the score (at least not on the album). Whenever it is played it is quite subtle. At first I didn't think too much of the score, but on subsequent listens it has grown on me. I won't be able to form a proper opinion until I've seen the film, though. But in a way, when listening to it, I occasionally find myself longing for the days when Arnold used to drop the theme into almost every cue.

I always enjoyed the DAF-like style, especially on "Field Trip".

Oh it's there alright, but I'd agree that it's subtle- disguised even in some cues! I'm deliberately only having a superficial listen until I've seen the film.

I'm on the "it still has to grow on me" side. Perhaps when I've seen the film. It's an alright score, don't get me wrong, but I'm getting a little concerned at some reviews that point to Bond's trademarks being stripped away to leave a British Jason Bourne-style cold action man, and there's no obvious rendition of the Bond theme here that reassures me at this moment in time that it's not the case. It's a good film score, but Casino Royale managed to be more Bondian on first listen. Cues like Bond in Haiti could have had a stronger element of the theme, even Bond's arrival in the Bahamas in CR managed to sound more powerful, and that was a score supposedly devoid of the Bond theme.

I'd agree that Field Trip is one of the cues on the album though, even though it does have a hint of AWTD ;)

(Also getting a little fed up of the same little notes and tweaks Arnold's been using since TWINE, like the fast electronic drum machine over action sequences, and the lamentable piano dabbling over emoitional ones. But that's just me.)

Hi the Casino Royale score was very good but it lacked the orchestral score from the trailer. Cannot find the thing anywhere on the net, including the smirnoff site. Could anyone send me a copy please. My email is scottscottyscott@hotmail.co.uk

    Many thanks

Yes I bought the soundtrack Monday evening at the local Zavvi store. Listened to it in the car on the CD player. (Good speakers.)
It has (obviously) a very South American sound with breathy pan pipes and twangy guitars and also heavy pounding drums on "chase/action" music. I was pleasantly surprised that it was good and original. Yes Bond theme cues are short and subtle. 9-Night at the Opera music is good and 11-Talamone. A lot of the bits of music are short at 40 seconds. There are about 12/24 tunes that are over 2 minutes. Some of the better cues fade away before they might've developed.

Not a bad soundtrack, enjoy "Bolivian taxi ride", "Field trip" and "time to get out". QOS Soundtrack has a nice flavour to it, I think David Arnold is improving. Only complaint, not enough Bond theme

Well, I will reserve judgement on the score until I see the movie this Friday. I've heard some encouraging reviews about it, and my main hope is that Arnold can improve on his action cues which have been outside of a few exceptions very generic and techno driven throughout his tenure. I don't mind a more modern score, but he at least needs to show some emotion and melody when composing an action cue. Hopefully Forster asking that he compose the score based on the script rather than to what's being played out on the screen will help him improve. His romantic cues I have no worry about as he they have always been top notch.

As far as the lack of the Bond theme, I'm willing to bet that some of the people complaining here are the same one's who thought he overused it during the Brosnan era! Restraint is a good thing, and it worked wonders for his CR soundtrack. John Barry rarely overused it either, and that was good since he was able to develop a unique sound for each of his films based on the title theme. Arnold did the same thing for CR and that is why that one stands out as his best. So with that in mind I eagerly wait to see how it will all pan out on Friday.

Totally with you- Arnold's romantic cues are excellent while his action cues lean towards the anonymous. I'm pleased to report that those have improved with QoS, and that the Bond Theme is incorporated into the score- though sadly the Theme as heard during the end crawl isn't on the album. (Extended release later, perhaps?)

That's great to hear! I'm not listening to any of the score until I hear it in the film. But from the couple of snippets I have heard from the trailers, this sounds intriging. The score and hopefully the movie should be good.

    Regarding the soundtrack CD:
Track 21- Perla De La Dunas
I can't seem to find a translation other than La Perla of the Dunes.
I think it refers to the hotel.
I thought it might refer to the Casino Royale swimsuit.:D
The Camille's Story track, track 18, is moving.
I liked the chase scenes music because I like the percussive effects.
I liked the low rumbles and flutes, as well.
I would've liked to have the end credits' James Bond Theme on the CD, but it is there in various places.
    I liked the CD, overall.
It is certainly worthy of collection.

By the way,did anyone notice, while listening to the title theme, the OHMSS theme just after the "took away your fear" and during the immediately following "hey", being played tremolo on an electric guitar?
It is a very short passage...just a few notes, but enough to identify it.
I believe White said that OHMSS was his favorite Bond soundtrack.

Great soundtrack. I think it definitely tops CR and is one of Arnold's best entries. I enjoyed the subtle references to other Bond music and the theme being played slowly through Bolivian Taxi Ride. I must say the best is either Bond in Haiti or Time to Get Out.

I think I enjoyed the soundtrack better after having seen the movie...makes me relive it. I am going to have my fourth listen through today to see if I catch any more parts I like.

One of my favourite parts is the short bit of music from when Bond goes back to London to Mitchell's apartment...great music.
