Sony Pictures announced this week that James Bond star and all-around 'ladykiller' Daniel Craig will be attending the Australian premiere of Quantum of Solace in November. Also attending the premiere will be Ukrainian model-turned-actress Olga Kurylenko (Paris Je T’Aime, Hitman), who plays Bond’s ally (and no doubt love interest) Camille, director Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball, The Kite Runner) and long-time Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.
The 22nd Bond movie picks up where Casino Royale left off. Determined to find out who was blackmailing Vesper, Bond sets out on a mission that takes him through Austria, Italy and South America on the trail of a mysterious and ruthless organisation. Mathieu Amalric plays one of the villains, and the great Judi Dench is back once again as M.
After the success of Casino Royale, the highest grossing Bond film of all time, there has been a great deal of interest in Quantum of Solace ever since it was announced. Craig’s interpretation of Bond as a hard but troubled man, radically different from Pierce Brosnan’s smug, wisecracking Bond, helped breathe new life into a franchise that was heading for irrelevance. Expectations for Quantum of Solace are high. The theme song Another Way to Die has already been released to a decidedly cool reception. Jack White of The White Stripes and soul singer Alicia Keys collaborated on the genre crossing track, which is the first duet to be used as a theme song in the 46 year history of the franchise. The premiere will take place at Sydney’s Hoyt’s Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park on November 15th. Quantum of Solace will be released nationally on November 19th.
