Who actually wrote Quantum of Solace?

I'll be honest I stayed away from most of the build up, I've heard rumours of various rewrites during the writers strike, I don't know who was or wasn't involved, but who actually wrote QOS?

It's half Casino Royale, half The World Is Not Enough and possibly too much Purvis and Wade? I can't decide why it went so far back around in a circle to become what I, presonally disliked about the Brosnan films (underscripted).

Was Paul Haggis underused? Over used? or just not used?

Is Martin Campbell actually what holds Bond together? (That's assuming you liked Goldeneye!).

I would like to understand the process and hear your thoughts!

I wouldn't get too wound up either way about a movie I haven't seen yet.

No but the producers were common in all those movies.

I dislike GoldenEye but agree it was the best of the Brosnans. I havent seen the movie yet either, is it really that bad? And whats all this about the titles?

It's not that bad no, I quite enjoyed it, it's just not Casino Royale, or Goldeneye and I don't understand why.

In my opinion Brosnan was a good Bond but handed poor scripts to work with, Craig is a brilliant Bond, but his second outing is a reboot of a reboot and it's not as good as the reboot!

My question is why and how has this happened, in my opinion it's more the plot that I was disappointed with than anything else in Quantum of Solace.

Why go so far from what we know as Bond only to come back to it all again, it has to be something to do with the writing of the overall plot and story.

I didn't really enjoy it, I have to admit. By the end I was shuffling in my seat and ready for it to end.

But I do know what you mean. There's a lack of substance there. There isn't much of a plot, it's more an excuse to get Bond flying round the globe killing everyone he touches because he's in a bad mood. But I was bitterly disappointed by the dialogue. As quick and clever as Casino is, this just seems a bit forced and at times I struggled to understand what was being said.

Several things just appeared to be inexplicable. After Bond rescues Camille from the boat, for example, how did he know to tail Greene to the airstrip? Felix Leiter and Mathis' both seemed crowbarred into the film for the sake of it, rather than lend any real meaning to what was going on. Then, amid the psychoanalysis and attempt at quick, clever dialogue, you've got an obviously CGI'd rip from Moonraker with Bond and Camille skydiving into a sinkhole. And how did that hotel suddenly go up in flames? And don't get me started on Fields. At what point did she have time to write down "Run" and hand it to the hotel conceirge? Just before Greene's thug poured oil down her throat? And if she was a "desk girl" as M described her, then why the hell was she sent to arrest James Bond, brutal killer?

I'm lost by it all, to be honest. I don't actually know what it was trying to be. Mostly Jason Bourne, with an art house "I can direct a gun battle in slow motion to Tosca" lilt, with old-style Bond stunts thrown in, with dialogue that rarely made much sense.

It does actually feel like it was put together by a committee, I have to admit.

(Apologies, you asked a question and I've just gone on a rant. Still smarting, truth be told :'( )

Good point I was lost by that too, suddenly he's there and talking to M again, why?!

Agreed although I liked the return of Mathis, my question (and this was brought up after the screening, where we think we answered it!), was Mathis bad or good? While he was dying I took the words with Bond as a bonding moment... Mathis was that your cover name (or soemthing to that effect). Some people took it to mean Mathis was a double agent and in fact was a cover of a cover!

However I would of liked him to of been a recurring character.
And how did that hotel suddenly go up in flames?

Surely this was because it was using fuel cells to power it? The landrover drove into the 'power station', quite why this was in direct line with the car park entrance is beyond me. I assumed this is what happened though.
And don't get me started on Fields. At what point did she have time to write down "Run" and hand it to the hotel conceirge? Just before Greene's thug poured oil down her throat? And if she was a "desk girl" as M described her, then why the hell was she sent to arrest James Bond, brutal killer?

Agreed shoe horned in because she was, I hadn't thought about the note, because Bond then says 'this is what she meant...'. If M was already there and had made contact with her how did the killer get Fields and not everyone else?!

Quite alright it's interesting to hear everyones interpretations, this is I feel the bottom line of this film, too much open to interpretation and not enough explanation.

When Bond hands the business card to the henchman at the gate by the quayside, Elvis the bowlhead dials the number on the card. gets the Universal Exports recorded message and then without realising it gives Bond his mobile phone details.

Bond is then able to track him in much the same way he tracked Solange's husband to the Bahamas in CR.

That makes sense! Just too much going on for me to keep track of what was going on. And unlike CR, which was explained in a step by step way for dummies, this wasn't as obvious (to me, anyway).
