Did Peter Lamont retire?

I never heard anyone mention his non-involvement in QOS and I never read any article or announcement about his retirement. I wonder why this legend received little recognition upon his retirement?

I sincerely hope we have not seen the last of his great work, but it seems at age 79 he is done. He has done a fantastic job on these films since he was a draftsman on the set of GF. He and Ken Adam are among the most important crew members in Bond history. He was probably the oldest tenured crew member when he retired having worked on all the films from GF all the way to CR (barring TND).

He worked with all six Bond actors. That is quite a feat. Has any other major crew member done this? Desmond worked with the first five Bonds.

It is always sad when one of the crew members who worked on the films as far back as the Cubby days twenty years ago retires or leaves. First Vic Armstrong, and now Lamont. This man, like Cubby, will be nearly impossible to replace.

Thanks for the awesome work, Peter. You are forever a legend in the Bond franchise. We will miss you! {[]

I remember that Lamont's replacement was announced some time back and discussed her on AJB. It wasn't clear then if he might be back at some stage, but as you say - his age suggests that he has played his innings. And a fine innings it was too!!

Mr. Lamont did indeed announce his retirement after Casino Royale. He will be greatly missed, and I agree that it seems a shame that he retired with so little fanfare. He did great work, but I have to say I was also very impressed with the art direction in QoS, so hopefully the Bond series is in good hands.
