When is CR/QoS set?

Casino Royale was made in 2006, but was it set in 2006?
If it is and QoS takes place 1 hour after CR then doesn't this mean that in QoS is in 2006 also?
Am i making any sense? :s

Or are we meant to assume that when when Bond discovers that Vesper has left Mr. White's name and number in her mobile phone for him to find, that he then waits two years before finding him and shooting him in the leg. 8-)

This can sort of be backed up by the fact that Felix seams to have been working in south america for a while...

But this cant be right as Bond is still looking for stolen money from the treasury's account. M wouldn't have waited 2 years.

Bond and Felix parted ways after the Casino in Casino Royale.

After which, Bond had a very lengthy stay rehabbing in the hospital.

Felix could have been dispatched down south immediately after the Casino.

    Fair point about Felix.

but lets say that Bond was in hospital for 3 months before heading of to Venice with Vespa. This still leaves a large gap.

QoS must be set in 2008 because bonds phone and several cars where only released this year. This must mean that CR is set in 2008, this would make sense because The DBS was only released in 2007.

CR is definitely set in 2006- check the dates in the scene where Craig looks at the security camera recordings for Dimitrios exiting the Aston Martin.

A plot hole? In a Bond film?!! Surely not.

There is no plot hole. Is DAD set in 2020 because that is when invisible cars are made?

In CR, the same problem exists. We know it is 2006, yet Bond's DBS won't exist for another 2 years (Bond got a prototype version of sorts)

Once again, this is a fantasy film, and you need to suspend disbelief a little.

plot hole? Yes. Massive? No. But it is another thread in the fraying sweater of CR and QoS's not-fully-thought-out script, IMO.

It's not very often Bond films "date" themselves. I can only recall offhand the calender in OHMSS into which oo7 tosses a knife.

I wouldn't worry too much trying to establish a timeline between CR and QOS. If it were important they would have included a reference to the timeline in the film.

This won't be an issue at all for the next oo7, since they tied up the loose ends from CR in this last film.

The folders given to 007 and the other 00s in TB spring to mind. Zorin's cheque to Sutton in AVTAK. The video recordings in CR.

Tracy's tombstone in For Your Eyes Only is dated 1969. One could argue that references to current events -- the energy shortage in The Man with the Golden Gun, for instance, and references to the Soviet Union -- root Bond films in their time.

Regarding Casino Royale, if one were to assume the story takes place in late 2006, and that Bond was not only in hospital for months but that he enjoyed a month off with Vesper, and that after Vesper's death but before he tracks down White is several weeks or longer, Quantum of Solace could conceivably take place in early to mid 2007. Car models often come out mid-year before their actual model year, so a 2008 Aston Martin could, perhaps, debut in mid-2007. This is stretching things quite a bit, and yet another reason why Quantum of Solace should have come out last year rather than this one, but if one squints, one might be able to make it actually work . . . kinda . . . . .

Another situation that indicates a time gap are the MI6 offices... the technology and M's oficce.

CR has a very particular timeline because in the cellphones and other media you can see or guees the date, in QoS that doesn't happen, unless you find out how many Palios are in a year.

its funny how QoS doesn't have a timeline reference, like CR had with the 9/11

I thought we were told never to get all technical in relations to dates in the 007 world

I just assume that QOS takes place in 2006. It really is the only explanation that makes any sense. But I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

I agree, it doesn't really matter. CR was deffo set in 2006 because it says so on 007's cell phone.

However, I think was it more interesting is the "gaps". There is certainly a gap between Le Chiffe getting shot and the hospital scenes with Bond and Mathis. Then there is another gap between the hospital scenes and the Greek Island holiday with Vesper. Yet another gap between Greece and Venice, and of course then a lengthy gap between vesper ying and Bond finding and shooting Mr White.

This means that the total gaps could have added up to two years. After all in OHMSS M says that Bond has had 2 years to track Blofeld down, so he could have taken 2 years to track Mr White down. M clearly states at the end of CR that the trail has gone cold. Bond could have been on other missions in between and then taken 2 years to find Mr White.

This means that QoS would take plce in summer 2008.

After reading through all the comments on this thread my head slightly hurts. :s

I think the gaps are the best explanation and that QoS occurs a while after the events of CR. I don't think there are any massive plot holes, just small ones where we loyal fans must suspend our reality metre for a while. However, some of this 'gap theory' stuff could explain a two year difference. Strangeways - your stuff is good, keep thinking through it. I don't know about it taking two years to chase down Mr. White, but I could see the time of recovery etc. taking a few months and then a few more months of fun and then a few more months of tracking down White...idk about other missions though. Who knows? Again, not a major plot hole imo.

Loeff, what about 'gap theory' for the glossary? :007)
