    Sir Roger Moore would have been 97 today.

    He was born in Stockwell, South London, which is now mostly famous as an interchange between the Northern & the Victoria tube lines. The Swan was a famous pub right opposite the station and I think it is still there. I haven't been in it for decades. Sir Roger occupied many of the same areas as another London acting knight, Sir Michael Caine.

    Happy 100th Birthday indeed to the legendary Dick Van Dyke. He memorably played against type as the unsympathetic guest star killer Paul Galesko in Columbo: Negative Reaction (1974) which is one of the best episodes in the series. As well as starring in the film version of Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang he also could have even been James Bond at one point:

    He's doing very well. I can't think of another author of that sort of vintage from the Golden Age of Spy Fiction who is still alive today.
