The physique for Bond 23

Hi Guys,
In the first 2 DC Bond films we have seen 2 quite different characters played, as they explained they wanted the character to grow and become more mature as the movies have gone by. I for one was quite dissapointed to see DC looking like something from a Marvel comic in casino royale. It was a very unneccessary add to the movie, apparently to make him look like 'he could kill someone' I for one thought it was a case of distasteful hollywood fever rubbing off on one of our favourite characters. I was however pleased to see that they had resorted a lot more to the books for QoS and he was looking a lot more athletic and slim rather than like a gym monkey. I personally would rather see them have DC partaking in more fight training and boot camps in preperations for his roles rather that just hammering the weights, more realistic in my view.

While I think Craig looked great in CR---his overall build reflected the character's SBS background, IMRO---I actually think he looked perfect in QoS. His training, he said, was more 'cardio'-focused, and it showed. I think that's exactly how James Bond should be put together...and I hope he maintains it for the remainder of his tenure in the role.

I think Craig's physique in CR was great for a guy who just got out of the military, but in QOS is when he looked alot more like Bond with the slimmer build, and it fit the character better as he isnt working out as much as he probably did in the service and he fit the suits alot better in QOS then CR. And in CR he had a odd protuding gut which just looked weird which thankfully wasnt there in QOS.

I hope they stick to the build of QOS it looks much more natural for DC

I could care less how Craig looks - just as long as his female accomplice has a better rack this time round!

Yes, I agree - I think he really suited the more 'refined' version in QoS, but his beefcake image I believe was deliberate on CR, (like other's have said in this thread.) But his now more practical physique is much more 'maintainable' too.

It seems like DC slimmed down quite a bit between the two movies. Any ideas about his sizes in the two movies--neck, jacket size, pant waist size?

Urgh!! - Personally I prefered the CR build. - But thats cause thats how I want to be built! Call me biased, but I find it inspirational! Bond is a character who has to do a lot of fighting, endurance and running around, either the CR or QoS look can work. - It was one of the few drastic things that did work in QoS.

As for general comments, lets have a story that adds up, a balance of character and action, some memorable but classy humour, strong, intelligent and sexy women. - AND - the person who did the editing and cutting on QoS's action scenes is confirmed replaced. (After they get tied to a table and walloped with a spanking paddle till they beg forgiveness for what they did!) :v
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I'm not sure of the differences in the two movies but after CR I remember reading that his neck size was 16.25, jacket a 42 and sleeve length 33. Don't know where I got it but I remember the numbers.

I also read in a men's fitness magazine within the last year or so(article comparing Craig's physique to Gerard Butler's from 3000) where Craig's weight was listed at 172 pounds. Just guessing on his waist size but I would put him around a 32 waist with maybe a 32 inseam.

Perhaps (if there is supposed to be a longer gap in the timeline between QOS and B23), we could start with a comparatively more "well-fed" Bond? If he is getting used to the finer things in life that the Section can offer, perhaps a Thunderball style health farm scene could be interesting?

I have a feeling that if Craig does at least three more films (having them come out every two years, even that would be pushing it), he's going to be doing less weight training and more cardio and stretching. Let face it boys and girls, when you're in your forties and start heading for that fifty mark, that kind of intense training gets much harder to do, and actors get tired of it eventually. Yes, I know Harrison Ford looked pretty fit for his last Indy outing, but I'm sure he worked his ass off to get into that shape, and I doubt if he'll want to do it again. He said he'd love to do another Indy film, but I don't think he'd have it in him (physically) to do any more. I know most agree that we hate seeing look alike stunt people filling in for aging action heroes when they start showing their age. Moore went that route and Brosnan was heading that way. Yes, Connery looked good in Never Say Never, but I still couldn't buy into him doing those action scenes. Thats the trouble with these films that take years to make. If that's the schedule their going to keep, then they need to eventually replace Craig with someone in their early thirties if they want to get at least more than four or five films out them.

Craig apparently lost weight for "Cowboys and Aliens" so he could have that very lean cowboy look. Craig is one of those lucky people who naturally have very low body fat to go along with wide shoulders and a small waist (even into their 40's). So it won't take much for him to bulk up a tad to have the same physique he had in QOS. Charles Bronson was like that. I think if Craig takes care of himself and doesn't get too seriously injured along the way, he might be able to pull it off as Bond until his late 40's. Now just to be clear to all those out there who dispise Craig as Bond I am only talking about his ability to realistically pull off the physicality of the role.

I think both looks were great and neither was bothersome, so I'll be happy either way for the next movie. As for CR v. QoS looks, well I think something Craig said to his trainer for CR gives us an idea of the difference. "I’ve got to look like I could kill someone when I take my shirt off." I guess he went from looking like he could to actually being the type who could.

I read there was a 20 pound drop, but I don't recall for sure.

I've been doing the diet where you have nothing but thick milkshakes, morning, noon and night. I thought it would be a good way to get twenty or so pounds off.

Turns out they have to be low fat DIET shakes. :(

Oh yeah, they are meant to REPLACE the three to four meals I've been eating every day. :#

I'm lactose intolerant; that diet would pose a bit of a problem for me.......

Waist Disposal by Briffa is a book you should check out, secretagent. Look it up on amazon.

I've been doing some stretching exercises with fairly small dumbells, sort of Candian Mountie excercies, not bad, tones things up.

I have a friend who is a legimate strength and conditioning trainer (has a Masters Degree in Exercise Science) who works with some very good college athletes (he is also a Nationally ranked power lifter). According to him, alot of what is considered "state of the art" training methods these days is actually very old school. The use of dumbells, kettlebells, pull-ups, suspended push-ups, and all sorts of other core training exercises that you don't need a bunch of equipment to do goes back centuries. Nothing wrong at all with the stuff Napolean Plural is doing with small dumbells along with the stretching.
We all have our opinions and differences as to what "type" would constitute a proper James Bond. While the general public have accepted a shorter blond Bond, I don't believe in this day and age they would accept an out of shape looking Bond.

I've often Thought about a good tough Excersise regime, But then I lie down till the moment passes. :))
Thought Craig's physique in QOS was better than the rather Bloated ( too muscular) form he had in CR, If reports are true that the Bond producers think he's lost too much weight doing C&A, They want him to put a stone back on But looking at the new longer trailer for C&A i think he suits the slimmer look , so would hope he Keeps it.

Not sure that I'd class his CR physique as 'bloated' tbh. I actually prefer the CR look that Craig achieved & thought that both the more casual & the more formal clothing sat well on him. He's certainly got good genetics that give him a good frame that seems to enable him to bulk up or cut back. Lucky sod!!
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
    Perhaps Bloated, was the wrong term. I thought he looked too Muscular In CR, Seeing him in C&A, He still looks very fit, still got the abs etc, But Slimmer, Which is how Fleming described Bond, so To my thinking would be in keeping with the character,In that Bond believed in keeping himself in shape, ( My shape is Round, By the way :)) ) but not overly Muscular. More the build of an athlete than a weightlifter. -{

The two places we can't hide our age from is our hands and face (without a plastic surgeon). The skin sag, liver spots and wrinkles creep in, which exercise cannot correct. Even when the makeup magicians do their best work, actors can come out looking more like a made up corpse than a more youthful version of themself. I thought Harrison Ford looked in great shape for his last Indy film, but his face betrays his real age (and I'm glad he's embracing it and not going with any cosmetic surgery). This will happen with any actor who tries to play Bond past the age of fifty. There is also the fact that, as I mentioned earlier, actors - no matter how dedicated they are to a part - get to a certain age where the type of energy and time it takes to maintain that "tough guy" physique gets to be too much, and they finally accept the need to transition to less physical roles.
  • thesecretagentthesecretagent CornwallPosts: 2,151MI6 Agent
Interesting points. I think Craig looks every bit his age and more. His face could easily belong to a fifty-year-old now. Not disputing his physique though.

Those in glass houses, secretagent! :D Going by your other thread! Fat is nature's botox so maybe when you slim down you'll look 50 too!

Mind you, Craig looked alright in that pic with him and Rachel going thru the airport this week.

I said he looked fifty because he's a craggy, ugly bugger!

But hey, if I look older when a few stone comes off, I'll just have some fun getting it back on again... :))

Haggard I think is the expression... and you're right TSA - he does look craggy.... he doesn't suit that 'thin' look...

Same goes for us women too... there is a fine line between looking slender and youthful/ and thin and haggard - it's why these too thin (maturer) ladies get fillers in their face, just like TP says... fills out the wrinkles :)) .... Weird if you ask me... :s

What was it Kathleen Turner once said? A woman can either have a nice ar$e and a haggard face, or a fat ar$e and a smooth face? She opted for the latter: 'I can always sit on my ar$e..."
