i have read and am now re-reading the bond novels, which are amazing :007) and detailed however fleming always kept the specifics of bonds wardrobe a secret, like most of you i view the literary bond as superior to the movie interpretations which are emensly entertaining as you all know.

many of us are inspired by the way our suited hero dresses in the movies but how does the literary bond wear his shirts is it with double cuffs or with simple barrel cuffs? :007)

on the back covers of the penguin editions bond has pearl cuff links which seem suitable to the character however, they would seem cumbersome for a double-o when on a mission what do you think? as i cant recall fleming referencing anything of the like ?:)

When a tuxedo or dinner jacket is called for, he'll be wearing cuff links. Anything less would just be too gauche.

But, of course, formal attire would not be called for when sneaking ashore onto Dr. No's Island or when engaging SPECTRE forces in undersea battles.

ok, so most of the time he'd just were the regular barrel cuff than right ?

The literary Bond wore short sleeved shirts like Fleming, even with a suit.

The reason for that is that I hate the things and wear short-sleeved shirts because I cannot stand dirty shirt cuffs!" Fleming often put out strange contradictory information about Bond.
I can't recall specifics re. the novels (other than the ubiquitous Sea Island shirts) my general impression is that if REQUIRED TO Bond would certainly wear cufflinks, but that generally he would not.
I like to think outside of the office Bond was very relaxed; slacks and a Sea Island shirt, probably unbuttoned two or three holes, but that when formalities were needed Bond would do his utmost.
That's not to say he'd wear cufflinks in Las Vegas, or even a DJ, (Las Vegas hardly had the breeding of Blades to OO7...) but I'm sure a suit, cotton shirt and tie (NOT A BOW TIE) would have sufficed. In the casino at Royale-Les-Eaux I'm almost certain he'd be suited and booted with the best.
