I haven't read the interview in question. But based on other interviews I suspect it's less about showing her femininitet and more about taking more roles in complex smaller films and less in Hollywood blockbusters.
She has said she really enjoyed playing Tamara Drewe and Gemma Bovery. Those are smaller, more personal movies where she has been very sexy. Gemma is less proud of movies like Prince of Persia and Clash of Titans.
Well it is the reality of getting a job as a female. Once you have a little power you can stop putting up with bull but it takes some time. For example after my last promotion I told my associates they were no longer allowed to refer to me as "the girl."
I understand that to a certain extent, but here we have an actress who dressed up as a naughty schoolgirl to launch her career but chooses bond to bash about female roles in films. Emma Watson has done the same thing, it's amazing how their morals change once they've got their career off the ground.
It might not be a change of morals. The reality is you have to pay the bills or you want to get started in an industry so you take what you can get. When reach a certain point you can be more discerning and vocalise what you dislike about a certain industry. This applies anyone in their career.
The most sexual movies featureing Gemma I have seen are Gemma Bovery and Byzantenum, far more so than QoS. I don't think it's about how much she shows skin and how sexy the role is. What she prefer is complex, character-driven smaller movies.
