The historic Varda Railway Bridge in the southern province of Adana’s Hacıkırı village will be a filming location for scenes for the next James Bond film, the longest film series in the world that is celebrating its 50th year in 2012.

The 172-meter-long and 98-meter-high bridge, which was built in 1912 by Germans, will feature in the opening 15-minute part of the series’ 25th film along with Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia Museum and the Aegean province of Fethiye.

The production team, which has been preparing the venues, will start filming in February. The Varda Bridge will be shown for 10 minutes in the film and its star Daniel Craig will also participate in the filming there, according to reports. The 200-person production team will come to Turkey in January for three months.

The Varda Bridge has been the subject of photographers and filmmakers before, appearing in many advertisements. The film’s producers, impressed by the story behind the bridge’s construction, will promote the bridge to the world by filming close shots and providing information about it in the film. Producers Barbara Brocoli and Michael Wilson have previously held talks with Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay about the issue.

Really looking forward to this! The bridge does really look impressive.

Sounds great, atleast they going back to basics with a classic pre title scene to get you into it. It looks impressive, where did you get the information from

It's not the most romantic nor elegant looking locations but will do -- I just saw Sherlock Holmes and trains featured a lot in the action . . . seems to be a trend rekindled by Harry Potter.

    25th film? :s

And I thought the carry on films were still the longest series?

I guess they're including the spoof Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again. This must have been one of the sequences slated for filming in India if it involves trains? Indian Railways, obviously renowned for their health and safety, put the stoppers on that on safety grounds.

I hope they use the train scene in a cool tasteful way, e.g. From Russia With Love and not some crazy over the top Mission Impossible type train roof chase!!!

I might be going against the grain ( I usually do :)) ), But I would love a huge over the top stunt sequence. For a big "Bond is Back" banner on the trailer.
I remember reading a post about a rejected script that had a car/train PTS. I wonder if this might be a reworking of it.

will feature in the opening 15-minute part
Hopefully that's after the main title sequence, as we need to continue with the short and snappy pre-title sequences and not go back to the bloated pre-title sequences of the Brosnan era.

He'll probably launch himself from the train a few seconds before it does using some believable but over the top technology, signaling to the audience that we have returned to the Bond films of old.

    yeah probably,
then hopefully it goes on into Adele Music, i've always thought she would make a good Bond singer along side shirley bassey

You know, I like Adele, but I don't think she has the pipes that Shirley Bassey does . . . no one really does . . . I was hoping Amy Winehouse would get a chance to do a song, even though I found her to be a reprehensible person . . . still, I think Adele will do a good job . . . I just hope the song isn't bland.

I thought this Basey-esque theme was pretty good and is more in line with what I would like to see in a Bond film today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAEuRZTRqGo

Actually, this is a version with just the theme in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg2dXY9TOKA

Since the PTS is meant to be set in Istanbul (right in the very centre) I can see this being an alternative to the Indian location. Certainly there doesn't seem to be any further news about the South Africa filming, which makes me wonder if Turkey is now being used. The bridge is very attractive; it reminds me of the exploding bridge in TLD.

Hopefully they won't do stupid things this time like putting a bullet into the gun-barrel!
