Should we see Bond's pad in this?

I think it's about time, don't you?

What prompted my thoughts on this is news that the DB5 will feature in Skyfall. Okay, but you do sort of wonder what kind of bloke would drive that kind of car in this day and age. Then, once you wonder, you imagine his gaffe, and how cool it might be. Thing is, it would have to match and complement the DB5 a bit, to make it more in context. Otherwise, a bloke driving a car like that, it seems out of place.

We saw Bond's pad in Dr No, LALD and that's all. Pitfalls: it mustn't look to grand or opulent cos then it just alienates those of us who can't afford that kind of pad. It must be cool, but not self-conciously so. Personally I wouldn't go for minimalistic.

Any thoughts?

I think its interesting that Bonds pad was shown in both Connerys and Moores debuts as Bond...

Can you imagine what would happen if we saw his pad????? We go mental for a pair of swim shorts!!!! Can you imagine trying to ID his settee, cushions, cutlery?

What image you may have of James Bond's pad may not be matched by what is seen on the screen. I am not totally against the idea but I think it's a good thing that some aspects of Bond's life remain a mystery. Adds to his mystique.

I don't actually care. You see some of his pad, cool! But I just want to see the Bond theme, the classic gunbarrel, Bond with a PPK, some action scenes, some great characters, and a BOND FILM TO REMEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skyfall hopefully should be up there with goldfinger, FRWL TSWLM

The only way I'd want to see Bonds pad is after it's been thrashed by a bad guy or the bad guys henchman. It would work in this movie to. If MI6 is attacked they could get the addresses of all the employees. Bond could have a target on his head and as a warning to watch his back, the henchman go in and destroy all his personal stuff. Someone else mentioned not seeing Bonds pad adds to his mystique. I think by showing his pad after it's been attacked will still keep Bonds mystique intact. We get to see his pad, but now how he has it set up and what kind of stuff he owns.

I can see it now.... Bond returns home, the door is ajar. He pulls the PPK from its holster and with his toe he pushed open the door. The scene of devastation is clear. Someone has turned his Chelsea flat upside down, looking for the vital piece of information that Bond had the good sense to keep on his person at all time.

He makes his way to his bedroom, weapon at the ready (stop sniggering at the back), and dives through the open doorway, past the splintered remains of the door. He looks at his bed and instantly feels revulsion rise within him.

The b@stards have thrown his teddy bear onto the floor. Bond vows to take revenge - at any cost!

I just think the idea of having a housekeeper in this day and age is a bit random and not at all Bond.
  • James SuzukiJames Suzuki New ZealandPosts: 2,406MI6 Agent
i think that to. If they do show his flat, I want it to be part of the story, instead of just chucking it in there

Well, Fleming wrote it, so it's a bit Bond, really. I know. Housekeepers don't exist anymore. Too bad, that :#

I employed a housekeeper. She was Eastern European and it took her about 20 hours to clean one room

Turns out that she was a Slow Vac

    I thank you :D

A full time live in Housekeeper as in the novels would be wrong as Bonds income (even including his ' small private income') would not support it credibly. However a part time housekeeper/daily would work. As for the 'PAD' I'd love to see it . It should be 'cool' possibly minimal, but with some older things , possibly heirlooms.
I loved M's apartment in CR and think that our man's should be a similar but less expensive and more Spartan, less 'designery' version ( I cannot see Bond having a taste for classic Modernist furniture like the Barcelona chair.

You know, now we are all going to be imagining in our minds what Bond's place would look like.

I think it would be very modern - not many heirlooms. Functional but expensive.

I admit I was tying it with the vintage DB5. I think with a car like that, his pad would be dark rather than light, but not gothic. Nice vinyl turntable in the corner, stack of LPs, wooden floors, ornate lamp. Wine rack. Obv a masculine air about it. I agree, not too designerish or Austin Powers.

The last time I was in London I took a stroll down the King's Road to the literary Bond's house. It's a gorgeous townhouse on a lovely square just off the high street. Lovely white facade, narrow, with about three floors. This is the house that Fleming describes in the books and it pretty much matched the image I had formed in my head, but was still very cool to see in person. Out of curiosity I checked to see what something like that costs in today's market and it's approximately GBP4 million. Seems to match an Aston Martin quite nicely!

    Excellent.

I'm all for the idea of showing Bond's house, but for the sake of originality, why not hire out one of the the apartments from that building (I don't believe Fleming ever specified which apartment) for filming?

Haven't laughed so much for ages - so true! Would love to see his pad but would cost me a sodding fortune trying to match it!

Had a thought about May - could be a sort of youngish stand-in who stays in agents' flats when they're away on a mission, to check they haven't got bugged or messed about with. Some light comedy as Bond returns, "So, where are you off to now?" "009, he's away in Hong Kong for a fortnight, lovely little place in Mayfair. Fish need feeding though."

Naaaaah! That's bobbins! Bond would just walk into the bedroom, look back at her and say: "That was a long mission, want to help me empty my tubs?"

The idea of seeing Bond's home is a nice one, but I loathe to think what it might look like!

I say that, because QoS introduced a high tech office for M, and her former bodyguard had a dingy spartan flat. To me both of the "well to do" Hotels looked awful as well. - The art direction and set design style was a radical departure from the established MI6 set seen in Goldeneye - CR, and if the wardrobe, tech and vehicle choices (the DB5 excepted) are anything to go by, it will all be modern, shiny spartan, designer label, and clinical.

Domino - did you take any snaps by any chance? If Bond's home had a major impact on the story, then I could understand seeing it. I love the idea of a classical traditional flat, lots of antique furniture, oil paintings, etc, and would be a nice subtle hint at Mr Fleming's legacy. However, to me it seems right out the window as it would go against the "IKEA meets Apple" look they appear to have established.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
  • zaphodzaphod Posts: 1,183MI6 Agent
Maybe a Mews house so that the DB5 could be kept in the garage directly underneath.

Nitpickers point TB2, the phrase and spelling is 'I am loath to think what it might look like...'

It's not like loathe as in hate. :) I made that mistake once.
