We need 007 to return in Skyfall!

I'm talking about the theme music as titled "007" in "From Russia With Love" which was played during the fight at the gypsy camp, and when Bond takes the deciphering machine. Snippets of which were also played in "Thunderball"-during the underwater battle scuba battle, "Diamonds Are Forever"-during the attack on the oil rig, and "Moonraker"-during the boat chase by the falls. This is an iconic piece of music and would surely add to any soundtrack, and I think the time is right for it to be heard in another Bond film. I often listen to this piece of music and it never fails to get the blood pumping and my feet tapping. Anyone out there feel as I do?

Yep, definitely agree with you. It's a great track and should be re-used! :D

That's somewhat unlikely now given Thomas Newman is scoring it. If David Arnold was returning he may have been more tempted to use it.

Has Newman said or done anything to suggest he doesn`t like the 007 theme?

Being as Skyfall is the 50th anniversary film it is probably a case of now or never. We already know about the DB5 and there will almost certainly be other homages but hopefully not too many. It would be nice to hear the 007 theme one more time.

Since CR they seem to be deliberately NOT playing the Bond theme during any chase or action sequences.
I think they are trying to distance themselves from the Old series. So I doubt we'll ever hear it again. :#

It's really stupid if they are. They should be trying to atleast incorporate some of it, to get new audiences inspired to watch the older movies in the series. It's like they're trying to be a new series or something, not even to do with Bond. Almost as if, no I won't say it. :#

If I remember right, Mr Arnold himself says on the audio commentary of TWINE, he was using the 007 theme less to save it for key great Bond moments in the action, as it had started to get used a little too much?
Also in CR, the music reflects Bond's growing status towards the "established" 007 we know, the humour, getting his first real dinner suit, discovering the Vesper martini etc. It workewd cause they cleverly saved the 007 theme till the closing scenes, a musical way of saying "he's graduated, this is our Bond!" Mind you I loved CR's soundtrack (inc 007 at the end) so I was happy.

I do want the 007 theme back and used properly. I know Mr A is busy with other very important work this year, but I will miss his name in the credits even if I do like the score to Skyfall as I love his style, and his music gells with what we see on screen and fits the mood of what we see perfectly, much like John Williams Joel Goldsmith and James Horner.

Just to clarify; The 007 Theme and the James Bond Theme are two different pieces of music. The James Bond Theme, made famous in the opening titles of Dr. No and showcases a riff on the guitar played by Vic Flick. The 007 Theme was first heard in From Russia with Love and is played during the fight at the Gypsy Camp, and when 007 Takes the Lektor.

Yes the James Bond Theme was played at the end of CR, but I don't think the 007 Theme has been used since Moonraker.

Below is a link to a portion of the 007 Theme

    Ah, in THAT case,

I think 007 would work best with a good car chase, or boat chase sequence. It would need new orchestration though.

I was thinking of The James Bond Theme, so thanks for the clarification Tohmms!

That's a great clarification. I also would love to have them use an arrangement of "007" in "Skyfall"...it's one of the great iconic Barry action themes.

As far as the "James Bond Theme" itself, I agree that Arnold really over used it in the Brosnan films, IMO
I think it was a "crutch" to make up for the less than compelling scores he was writing (of course it could have been EON's decision to use it more).

One of the other points that Arnold has made about too much use of the Bond Theme is that when it starts blaring during an action scene the audience takes it as a cue that Bond is going to start kicking butt and it takes away from any feeling of suspense re the outcome.

That being said, I'd like to hear more of the Bond theme incorporated into the score of "Skyfall" trhroughout the film, but in a more subtle way, like Arnold did at the end the opening chase scene in QOS.

I loved the reworking of the James Bond theme in the CR trailer. Something like that would be good.

the 007 theme would certainly add something to the rather bland fight scenes in QOS and it should be used in future.

The 007 music should return for Skyfall. I like David Arnold's music but too many times it's very action type stuff. He did a good job incorporating the Bond music into Casino Royale. We should have seen the 007 theme perhaps in Quantum of Solace. But as QoS was a mess we didn't. But I still like a lot of the music in QoS. The thing is, this is a new James Bond for a new, younger audience. The producers, I would assume, think that cutting a lot of what makes Bond, Bond is a good thing. But then say put this little easter egg in here for fans. You actually end up making a mess that way like the Goldfinger and Moonraker homages in QoS. I'm going into Skyfall without watching any of the media with the hope that the director and new composer get what makes those classic Bond films classic for the 50th anniversary.

I believe that the casino royale music was great, meaning that it would be nice action scenes in the play that kind of music
