Sensational news from The Sun. :D

James Bond star, Daniel Craig is to open the 2012 Olympics ceremony after a personal invitation from the Queen.

She asked him into Buckingham Palace to film spectacular scenes as 007 for London's sporting extravaganza.

In the film, he arrives by Royal Appointment to be told his latest mission is to launch the Games.

Her Majesty may even make a cameo appearance but the Palace is keeping details a secret.

A billion people watching on TV around the world will see Bond getting his instructions before he is taken by helicopter to parachute into the Olympic stadium in Stratford, East London.

Daniel, 44, and a film crew headed by Trainspotting director Danny Boyle were given unprecedented access to the Queen's private rooms on Tuesday.

They also shot helicopter and parachuting scenes.

    April Fools day!

I know it's the 1st April but there may be a little element of the truth in that Sun article. I don't believe it is stretching credibility too far to think that James Bond will indeed make an appearance at the Opening Ceremony. If not Daniel Craig himself then possibly a double in some kind of elaborate set piece. The organisers will be looking to promote the "Best of British" and James Bond is one of the iconic figures of these islands.

The Express has a different angle for their 1st April article.

James Bond swapped Casino Royale for a royal palace when he dropped in on the Queen.

The secret agent with a licence to kill was in the grounds of Buckingham Palace for a meeting with the monarch - or at least Daniel Craig was there to film scenes for the next 007 movie Skyfall.

The Queen was portrayed by a look-a-like.

An insider said "It really was quite incredible. A helicopter was circling overhead and the quadrangle was full of trailers and equipment. While the Royals are often filmed at Buckingham Palace, it's unprecedented for scenes from a film to be shot inside."

Filming took place around Buckingham Palace and in Horse Guards Parade in February.

It's a bit of a rubbish April Fools. I mean, I was aware it might be as I was reading it, but there's nothing especially outlandish about the story, is there? It's not like they said the Queen would have a cameo in Skyfall or anything. Great publicity all round if it went ahead.

Hmm, who should open the Olympics, a national hero, a military hero, maybe a sports hero, nah, let's get an actor. Unbelievable! :s

I sure hope it is an April Fools story.

I'm not sure it is. The Sun has not 'revealed' it as an April Fools story, their one was about a perfume smelling of the Arsenal stadium!

But other papers have not picked up the story either, if it is true. ?:)

Not in the UK, but many papers/media outlets in India and Australia as well as a few from New Zealand and America. Many (if not all) of the Australian one's are most likely also owned by Rupert Murdoch.

That raises the question of whether they too got conned by an April Fools, although if some are owned by Murdoch, presumably they might be in the know.

Very strange, possibly a brilliant scoop undermined by the possibility of it being utter cobblers. If they'd got hold of the John Major Edwina Currie story on May 31 they'd have had to hold it over for a week, methinks! :D

I hope that is a joke. Sounds way too camp for Craig's persistent scowl.

Well, the Queen can be a right old misery guts; match made in heaven I'd have thought. :))

Anyway, on the zealous mi6 website they're still unclear whether it's April Fools, though leaning toward it not being. It's odd, usually the UK websites buzz with the jokes from the previous day, instead they're just banging on about google's gag.

The Guardian is now reporting it, dated today. Quotes from The Sun article but no mention of it being (or even possibly being) an April Fools joke. The plot thickens.

Is the film still in production? They should have Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt as cameos.

They aren't British, usually the host country attempts to shine a light on their country and their people. Then of course, most countries highlight a national hero, not a fictional character. I am still hoping this story is false. England has a wonderful history, I am sure they have many deserving individuals that could be highlighted.

Concorde and Spitfire! Mind you, half French the first and they lost the Games.

You can call it cheesy or even absurd, but tell me you won't get goosebumps watching your favorite fictional hero parachute into the Olympic games (probably with the Bond theme playing).

If nothing else, this should take care of marketing for Skyfall :)

You know, I didn't think about how they could approach it with Craig. It really doesn't have to be campy. I'm sure they could get the gritty corporation/terrorist group is going to attack or throw a wrench in the Olympics dealings and international affairs so Bond has some behind the scenes straightening out to do to ensure the countries don't get into a witch hunt over attacks and sabotaged dealings.

Anyone remember the opening of Blood Stone with Craig? Perhaps a better version of that.

Exactly!! We don't even know what context it's going to be in. The opening ceremony is going to be a celebration of the best of British, including dozens of NHS nurses, I believe; it's not going to be that little skit in isolation and nothing else.

I really can't see HM having a cameo in it, that would be unprecedented beyond belief. Unless she's poking her head round the door to quip "Ha, got 10 years on you!"

I'm all for it too ....

Bond is probably just about one of our most famous icons who is still relevant, current, instantly recognisable and a positive, sucessful British role model.

Not sure about the Queen actually appearing but that would be uber cool if she did.

Arise, Sir James Bond. It appears that James Bond as portrayed by Daniel Craig will be knighted in a film made for the Olympics opening ceremony.
