How will fans be celebrating SKYFALL?

StrangewaysStrangeways London, UKPosts: 1,469MI6 Agent
The past few years (2006, 2008) have seen me spend a Bond Day in the West End.
A few photo opportunities outside the ODEON Leicester Square, with poster in the background.
Earlyish screening of the movie with friends/family followed by long boozy lunch in Soho/Covent Garden with the customary Vesper Martinis etc etc. The meal steeped in Bondian chat and and views on the film.

How will others be spending the day in late October...and would any fans care to meet up?

London's Prince Charles cinema is asking for film requests. Take with a pinch of salt usually, but on the loooooooooooong list is... James Bond Marathon to Celebrate 50 years of Bond.

Ahem! There is one of those, but the more up to date one must be:

A James Bond Marathon to Celebrate 50 Years of 007'...

Which is higher up the list anyway.

Not sure they'd get permission to screen them anyway, but worth a try.

That's the one I was referring to. I just didn't feel like typing it all out at the time. ;%

This thread was suppoed to be about how fans are spending their first day watching SKYFALL.
As much as I love 007 marathons, I prefer to do them in the comfort of my own home in front of my widescreen.

Nap - here's hoping you and your camera will meet us in Leicester Square again as for QoS.

Well not many of you have posted thoughts on what will be a mega day!
    Any ideas yet?

If my plans work out I'll see it slightly before its release date. so hopefully I'll have the first
review here on AJB. so on the day itself I'll be looking at my choice of Bonds on this new
Blu-ray format the young people seem so fond off. :))

Hi SW, yes I'd be up for that. But do you really want to see it there anyway? You have Imax, or the largest screen in London otherwise, at the Greenwich 02. That said, Leicester Square is more iconic, as has had a rather wonderful revamp of late, as you probably know.

I won't be seeing the film with you, as you are of a sunny outlook regarding Craig's Bond, and I don't want to rain on your parade... :D I'll see it another time, prob at Imax.

BTW I sent you an email, not sure if you got it.

There is an imax theater near my office so I plan on taking some time off work to see it on the opening day. I am working on recruiting some coworkers to go with me but it is not looking too good. :D So far I have one maybe.

I was hoping to spend the night with Carey Lowell but it seems she is busy, oh well maybe next time.

Even thought Skyfall does not open in the US until November, I plan on watching it first chance I get. I plan on seeing it on an IMAX screen with a close family friend from New York.

Great idea for a thread Strangeways, kudos to you.

I have been thinking about this myself a little, and well I can't meet up as so far the budget doesn't stretch to spontaneous 12,000 mile flights.
BUT I will certainly be celebrating the fact that this is the first Bond movie to be filmed in IMAX, by watching it at the "World's Biggest Screen" at LG IMAX in Darling Harbour in Sydney. :D
    Followed by a Vesper or six I imagine -{

Looking forward to it very much.

I'll celebrate after I've seen it and determined that it's good. It could still easily be a very mediocre film despite that cast and crew.

I don't yet know how I will be 'celebrating' Skyfall, but all I do know is that it will be about a month after you UK fans, as the I live in South Africa, and the film is only being released here on the 30th of November. :( It will have a tough month of dodging spoilers!!

Nap - which email do you mean?
I know you sent me one that told me you hadn't really planned your SKYFALL experience yet as it is too far away. Mine is all organised for the Saturday, so hope to see you for pics outside the ODEON.

I don't really like the IMAX at Warterloo, and the O2 is too far away. As I live close to Central London the iconic surroundings of Leicester Square will be perfect for my SKYFALL DAY.

Yeah, so long as I've got nothing else to do, I'll pop up with my camera! :)

BTW the Imax at Waterloo won't be like that Goldfinger viewing, in case you were wondering, because the screen shape is different. GF was like being close up to a large standard TV set. It was better with OHMSS - just a very large, nice big screen.

OK, OK, so as I will be going to see SKYFALL many times during the first two weks, why don't we arrange a date at the Waterloo IMAX for a few days after my West End extravaganza???
  • Napoleon PluralNapoleon Plural LondonPosts: 10,308MI6 Agent
Yeah, sounds alright. There'll be a rush on for tickets at the Imax however, going by Dark Knight sales, so we'd have to move fast.

I now have SIX confirmed for my little jaunt into the West End for SKYFALL and coctails/lunch afterwards.
Remember this is for the Saturday, the day after the Friday night launch.
Great picture opportunities in Leicester Square.
