Does this movie take place shortly after the events of OHMSS?

Ive read on here that Bond is dealing with a depression of some sorts which would explain his rugged bearded look. Is this movie taking place shortly after OHMSS and beforre Diamonds?

Before anyone gets on my case, there have been films in a franchise that has done this kind of thing. For example Superman Returns took place after Superman II and before part III

If Casino Royale was the reboot then technically none of the other Bond stories have taken place as we are starting all over again. The reason for his depression is dealt with at the start of the movie. Well that's my understanding.

This is why I hate the whole reboot. Bond is just Bond. A movie character who is always around 40 years old for over 50 years.

Well if he hadn't remained the same age then he'd be about 90 and that would just be plain stupid.

Yep, I agree, none of the other 'adventures' have happened yet.

I have a friend who really can't get his head around this concept however, and I've spent many a drunken hour trying to explain it to him!! It is a bit of a mindbender, so I think the reboot/start over idea is best glossed over!

Isn't that what I was implying?

I agree with "The other movies haven't happened " as it's a reboot.
Although I always wondered why, they chose to start the reboot with a Bond who seems
already a bit jaded. I'd of thought he'd of been a bit excited to be made a double O or
    at least enthusiastic about it.
This is not a critism of the films, Just a question.

Hey we got close to that with A View to a Kill, that was like the closest we got to seeing an eldery James Bond.

It wasn't just close - actually DID see an elderly James Bond in AVTAK! And it wasn't a pretty sight! :))

Most of the Bond ouevre makes no sense from a continuity perspective. The plot of DAF is like OHMSS never happened. There have been continued "reboots" throughout the Bond series, sometimes with the same actor playing Bond!

I love Craig as Bond and cannot WAIT for Skyfall. I have no issue with the reboot at all.

One day though I would dearly, dearly love to see an Ian Fleming James Bond book given the movie treatment, completely and faithfully reproduced as a 1950's period piece, so the car described in the book is the car he drives, the scrambled eggs, cold showers, the cigarettes etc.

Just need a leading actor that looks like Hoagy Carmichael! :))

I think that's what I loved about Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the look it captured of the dour 1970's London.

Never going to happen of course, but one can dream...

Erm, because Barbara Brocolli fancied Craig more than Henry Cavill.

After BROSNAN'S box office hit with DAD she had clout she never had to get Sean Bean cast as JB in GOLDENEYE (LTK adn't given her the muscle), but by CR she did.

Hell, look at the "I'm youthful, arrogant and impestuous" lines world weary 38 year old Carig has to spout. CR was clearly originally set up for a VERY young JB. Obviously, no one had the time to change it. Or dare say how a daft a Bond looking like Craig would seem playing the part with that characterisation?

Until BB got hot that is...
