Bond 24 sunglasses

Assuming Tom Ford returns, would you prefer general issue sunglasses like the Marko’s in Skyfall or specially made sunglasses like the TF108s in QoS?

I'd kinda like to see him move away from aviators honestly. But I'd rather them be normal issue.

I think the Aviators really work for Daniel, and they are 'classic' rather than fashionable (although they are having a moment again) which fits in with my notion of Bond- up to date, stylish, but not a fashion victim.

Suits from QoS, casuals from SF and eyewear from CR..... Or casuals from GF, eyewear from AVTAK and suits from SF :)) :)) :))

    Haha agreed!

84'/85' was a tragic time in the movie series.
Let's hope it's not the same Pair from AVTAK :))

A large aspect that defines Bond is the power of his attire. Classic clothing I find will always remain timeless. We're constantly consumed by the trend of the "newest thing", only for it to be replaced with something else a few years later...

Aviators, I find, are classic and well defined with the large metal upper ridge. The 108s were an incredible pair, clean and not overly large, elaborate, or the least bit tacky, (as some pairs from the 80s/90s evolved into. They're a pair that I think can truly never look "dated".

Likewise, the Ray-ban style black sunglasses in Thunderball, I thought were excellent. I keep hoping for these to become resurrected in the future. I suppose the trouble with them is they can appear too casual with more formal outfits.

"Classic" also shouldn't necessarily be viewed as overly conservative, or "boring", but rather unique in the midst of current trend. A lot of the classic clothing Bond wears delivers his strong presence.

I'm TF's biggest fan but for God's sakes put DC back in a nice pair of Persols!

They'll probably go with Tom Ford or Persol. :p I liked the rectangular ones in Casino Royale, looked good on Craig. B-)

I agree that good quality accessories, inc sunglasses are a must. One prob with constant brand product placement is we never see Bond use the same thing twice! I also vote for the persols, simply because they are a nice style, and aviators have been done by every action or military film. Or so it seems to me.

As long as Mr Craig doesn't make a spectacle of himself we'l be fine! :D
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Persol. The problem I had with the aviators is they look too casual to go with a suit. They work with a polo and jeans - but for me the Persols work best. With casual clothes they add a bit of sophistication and with more formal dress they just seem right. Besides, the Ford's look like any aviator, whereas the Persols famous temple arrow is immediately recognizable.

I liked the persols in CR, but to me the Tom fords make him look more sophisticated and powerful that he was as a green horn 00 in CR. To me the Persols evoked an image of some Californian bum.

I am going to vote on the Persol side of this discussion. As has been noted above Tom Ford can look like any other aviator whereas the Persol arrow is an instant sign of style and function worldwide.
Sunglasses are a weakness of mine, and I convince myself I need lots of really good ones being a Brit in Australia, so I just got my third pair of Persol, a pair of classic folding 714… I reckon they'd be great and practical sunnies for a man on the move such as Bond.

California bum? In Persols? Bum: a tramp; a vagrant or a lazy or shiftless person, especially one who seeks to live solely by the support of others - also, an incompetent, insignificant, or obnoxious person. Wow..a vagrant with taste. Must be a California thing.

Persol originally made protector sunglasses for the early aviators and sportsmen (like Rolex). Then the Swiss Army adopted them. These people who were involved in a very high risk lifestyle only wanted the highest quality eyewear. It was only later in the last century that celebs started using them because they were so highly regarded and expensive. Though we never saw Fleming in sunglasses and he never mentioned Bond in any particular brand, I would wager if they owned any they would be Persols, based on their history.

He needs to wear something classic and timeless: like aviators or wayfarers.

I have to vote for Persol, I think it's Daniel's fav brand also. I own both pairs and despite not having any of the TF glasses I must say that these look really classic in the world full of aviators and wayfarers. The arrows on the sides just add points, because a Ray Ban freak will never know what you're wearing, a guy however who knows what's best will know that you're a type of a gentlemen who takes good care while filling up his wardrobe. ;) That saying: I'd love to have the Fords also, but the prices of the TF108 are horrendous.

I think youll find that both brands are owned by the same company Luxottica so one would imagine
the technology to make Persol and Ray ban would be the same ,but I might be wrong :)
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

I know they are! But trust me: 90% of the RB freaks have no idea about it.

I also read somewhere, that Persol is the "premium" brand, whereas RB is for the crowd generally speaking :P Seems to work pretty well. As for me there is only one Ray-Ban, owned by Bausch&Lomb in the 80', made famous by Sonny Crockett in MV! Some day I might actually get a vintage pair of the original Wayfarers from 84'.

what about the Persol 714's? They're a mix of aviator shape and wayfarer materiel.

I think they're famous because of the fact, that Steve McQueen wore them. I doubt they will use a pair of sunglasses already well established on the silver screen ("The Great Escape", correct me if I'm wrong).

Persol is owned by Luxottica, but TF are actually made by Marcolin. Sadly these days, there are only a few sunglass manufacturers for all of the brands/designers out there. Persols aren't made with the same quality as they used to be when owned by Ratti. Original Ratti Persols are highly sought-after and fetch a premium price on eBay and elsewhere. But well worth it!

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Square or rectangular glasses tend to look better on someone with Craig's face shape and higher cheekbones. Aviators look better on someone with a small, boxy face and no cheekbones.
