    Useless but still impressive! 😁

Must admit I've not heard of Dugena before but looking them up they seem to have made some sexy watches over the years.

After decades of being an obsessed Bond fan.. my first memory was watching LALD on television with my father around age 5.. and I was hooked.. fast forward quite a few decades and I’ve shared so many Bond moments with my father, grandfather, and my own kids.. the year Skyfall came out was a tough one.. Abruptly became a single dad.. the kids’ mom having run off with a trust fund millionaire... (they’ve since divorced as well.. shocking). But Skyfall has been my favorite of all.. and I’ve lusted over the Seamaster PO from that film ever since.. I recently found one in mint condition with the original box, paperwork, even the hang tag.. it looks as though it had never been worn.. Being a single dad / 20 yr veteran cop, it still wasn’t in the budget.. but then I got an unexpected stimulus check AND a commission to build some of my artwork from my other obsession- Indiana Jones.. and the two added up to the price tag of my dream watch.. so I pulled the trigger.. ( this was a moment when it wasn’t true that a trigger didn’t “have to be pulled”). :-)

so today after my shift.. having picked it up at Fedex.. it was time for a bourbon by the creek out back.. and a moment to appreciate my new purchase.

    It's very handsome, enjoy!

Are you able to share what the artwork is you're building? I love a bit of Indy too!

  • MFisherMFisher Posts: 661MI6 Agent

Not to sidetrack the conversation too far... But as to the Indy work... Years ago I purchased a 1/4 scale Indy statue for my movie room but was never satisfied with the belt or holster.. additionally I had some 1/6 Indy collectibles and the belts, holsters and whips were never quite right. So I bought a sheet of leather and set out to make my own. After a few tries I got the pattern down and learned to sew leather and hand dye it, weather it etc.. Then took on the task of hand making 1/6 scale whips.. I posted a few pics of my work on a message board around 2009 I believe.. I have been making them for collectors world wide ever since.. All of my sales have just been through word of mouth as I do not have a webpage.. Recently I was contacted by a group of extremely talented figure builders overseas. They are doing a limited run of 25 custom Indy figures that are going to run in the $3000 range each. They asked if I would build the whips for the run and I graciously accepted.. Just to be attached to a project like that was pretty exciting.. Here's a few shots of my hand made gear..

Wow those are beautiful: the ageing is amazing. Do you actually weave those whips from different strands (I've no idea how whips are made!)?

  • MFisherMFisher Posts: 661MI6 Agent

The whips are a variety of different materials.. brass rod (inside the handle) the turk's head knot at the base of the handle is hand sculpted, then I use braided cotton cord in different diameters.. but no, I don't braid the whip bodies myself.

Hi All, I wandered if any of you could provide some advice on the Tudor Pelagos? During lockdown I've managed to save up some cash for a new time piece. Originally I was looking for a Bond related piece, possible the Aqua Terra, as I have the CR and QoS Planet Oceans already. I considered saving for the NTTD Seamaster but the price has put me off, along with what I've read on this forum about the Omega customer service. Having read some articles on some of the watch forums, I have been drawn to the Tudor Pelagos. The reviews are very good and complimentary of the build quality, functionality and looks. I am severely tempted by this watch as it appears to be one of the most highly rated watches in the under £3,500 category. The only thing that's holding me back is the thought of having 'another dive watch' - hence why I considered the aqua terra. I would be extremely grateful for any advice/experiences with the Pelagos, or any recommendations on another time piece.

    Thanks in advance.

    I'm sorry......that last hand...nearly killed me

My friend has a Pelagos and it is beautiful: I love the finish on the case- I think it may be titanium which gives it a stunning, slightly dark brushed finish. Looks amazing and feels proper quality- it has a glidelock clasp as well I think which is very handy. The only issue was we all went on holiday the year before last and he wore into the sea, and every time he went in he lost a marker on the bezel! I think by the end of the holiday he'd lost about four of them! We weren't exactly going to 100m either 😄

But that may just be a one-off, I wouldn't be put off by that. It's a lovely, classy watch which feels quite contemporary as well as having a touch of classic about it.

I've always liked the Pelagos, It's an awful lot of watch for the money. Sadly I've always had to rule it out due to the case size (43mm) I have small wrists and just looks too big on me. The Tudor Black Bay at 39mm is the sweet spot for me but I just manage to pull of my QoS Planet Ocean at 42mm. Have you not considered one of the standard Seamasters or Seamaster 300? If you want to move away from a dive watch, then I would go Speedmaster (I know it's not Bond) or Aqua Terra as you already suggest.

I've got my eye on a Black Bay 36. I think they're lovely.

While the Pelagos certainly is a very nice watch:

If you want an Omega - get an Omega. Don‘t compromise, don‘t discount!

You may think that you‘re saving money buying the Tudor, but in the end, you‘ll get the Omega anyhow.

At least that‘s how I‘ve done often in the past and wasted a lot of money.

Does anyone have their eye on anything particular being released at Watches and Wonders next week? Any watches already leaked and/or rumoured that are definitely going to be on the shopping list?

The new Seamaster 300. Didn’t like it much from the leaked pictures, but it actually looks like a really nice watch.

I'm interested to see what Panerai are doing Their last big set of new releases mostly left me a bit cold with a few lovely pieces.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

So after a year of mandated overtime because of a tornado that ravaged our city 12 months ago.. ( I spent 30 days straight working 12hr shifts - no days off) followed by mandated overtime for all the anti-police riots & protests.. then mandated pandemic patrols.. etc etc.. it was time to take my kids out of town for a break.. I brought them to Atlanta - a short jaunt from Nashville... We rambled around a few shopping centers.. ( My daughter is almost 14.. shopping had to be part of the trip).. But then there it was.. The Omega store.. I had to duck in.. Was able to the pour over the NTTD watch.. But then consider the option of the SPECTRE NATO strap for my Skyfall PO.. I had to pick it up.. AND. the ridiculously attractive saleslady decided that she'd just gift me this travel case withough charge.. Perfect..

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 4,050MI6 Agent

Really suits it on that NATO, very nice!
