Watchfinder offered me £4500-4750 subject to inspection. Not sure if thats a good price, eBay seem to go higher but not sure how legit those prices are. Not sure I would want to sell there either for lot of £££ at stake!

I'm sure many would bite your hand off for that price! Watchfinder will never offer you what you could get for it elsewhere. These things are going for around £6500-7K, so you would much be better trying to sell it elsewhere I reckon. If I had the money I would certainly have no quibbles about offering you a fair price for it. £4500 is just an insult.

I agree with the above, Watchfinder is definitely ripping you off there Welshy. I'd say try here first.

Otherwise, eBay's not the worst option. I bought my Spectre LE off a private seller on there and I couldn't be happier with the transaction. As a seller eBay can be good for large value sales like this if you can catch one of their "sell for free" (no final value fee) promotions, otherwise you're looking at around a 10% fee (it is capped at a certain amount though)...although your takeaway would still be thousands more than going with Watchfinder.

I had the pilot chronograph mine was an early model from the late 80's I wore it on an olive drab nato, which seems to be popular with iwc these days. Worst thing is I can remember every thing about it but I can't remember what happened to it ?:) :s

Not a great photo, but in the Kiwi America's cup team came into the Air NZ lounge at Christchurch tonight to show off their new silver, had a chat with one of the crew, and managed to get a nice look, (but poor picture) of this little beauty, and that other thing

Modern take on the QOS Bolivia PO 2500 and TF108's.
My Royale Harrington and 2500 PO LM LE with TF Williams (well my standard PO 2500 is wearing its Rubber Strap for the summer and my 108'8 now reserved for special occasions as the leather wearing on the ear pieces)

    Cheers :007)

Sounds pretty cheap for a 6542. Good examples are double and far more than 30k

    Is it "The Pussy"?
As in Pussy Galore's watch in Goldfinger?
    I'm weak on GMTs.
    a reasonable rate of return
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
    Nope,

The "Pussy Galore" would be 6542 ( bakelite bezel and no crown guards) the one that you see here is Ref 16750 - as seen on Magnum PI from season 4 ;)

Thank you - and yes, I am wearing it quite often in combination with my Paradise Found shirts :D

This particular watch has an interesting history: I've purchase it from a guy from Hawaii some years ago for around $ 4000. He told me that he was having it since he was in college and that he bought it from his college professor.

He told me that the watch has never been polished (which is not true but it's not polished down like most 40 year old watches). It had a fake bezel insert when I bought it and I had to service it soon after it arrived here.

Some months later, the seller contacted me and desperately wanted to buy his watch back. I told him, that because of the sentimental reason, I'd give him the watch if he found me an equivilent 16750. He presented me 2 or 3 watches, but they where much worse in condition. One year ago, I've found one but that was at around 9k. He never replied to my email - but I keep on looking for one.

Somehow I feel sad for him that he had to sell the watch because of a financial shortage. On the other hand, I can't be held for the recent price hike, sell him the one that I have for 4k and buy another one for 9.

    As a follow on to Mr Higgins story I'll tell all on AJB007 another tale, a true one. Years ago Higgy informed me he had secured an Omega Seamaster display watch from Tomorrow Never Dies and he also told me what he paid for it. Higgy runs/ran a site in Germany called Bondtoys.de and I'd previously purchased an Omega TWINE display watch from him which is how Donkey knows him. Over a period of time I'd made a number of unsuccessful attempts to purchase the TND display piece & we are talking many thousands of Euros here. Mr Higgy had a buyer lined up in Italy for a lot of Euros but the deal fell through. I believe the potential purchaser had thought incorrectly that it was one Pierce's screen watches. I knew what the potential purchaser had offered and so I offered a couple of thousand Euros less which was still a serious chunk of change. Higgy rejected my offer but then said this " this Omega is one of my most valued pieces but if it means that much to you I'll give it to you without charge!" To say this blew me away was the understatement of the decade. Common decency and doing what is right meant I could not accept his generous offer but I was able to trade a timepiece in my own collection which was also one of my favourite pieces that Mr Higgins amazingly did not have. This is the calibre of this particular AJB007 member. I'm not sure he'll thank me for revealing this but it ties in nicely with the Rolex 16750 story -{
