Sam Mendes

Just watching some of the individual interviews the actors gave today and there's some much praise for Mendes in there. Naomie Harris said it wouldn't be the same if Mendes wasn't director.

I know it's a tradition of Bond for their to be a continuous change in director's but I have full faith in him delivering the goods again with Spectre and if he does, I'd have no objection for him staying on to do more.

I do get the impression that he started something with Skyfall which he is looking to continue with Spectre so it's likely he'll stop for at least one more after this.

He says here that he feels like he's the best person to tell the continuation of the story that he started

It's most likely that he'll stop when Craig stops given how close they are and how well they work together.

Look back at the Bond films before Brosnan and you'll see that there is no tradition to keep on changing directors. Terence Young did 2 in a row (3 total), Lewis Gilbert did 2 in a row (3 total), Guy Hamilton did 3 in a row (4 total), and John Glen did 5 in a row! Some consistency will be good again, though I'm not happy with the composer and costume designer staying the same in this case. Thomas Newman wrote the most forgettable music of the series (though I know that he didn't try to make it memorable) and Jany Temime doesn't know how a suit should fit.

In his post press conference Mendes said " ... some big shadows from Bond's deep past are going to resurface." I fear this means Bond's parents were killed by Blofeld or perhaps Oderhauser's father. That sounds like a very bad idea to me.

Mendes gives us some some hints that the new Aston Martin will have gadgets. That's fine by me.

I might sound stupid for saying this but I'm not sure if he wanted to return to do another bond film. Michael and Barbara were begging him back to come back. What I'm saying is that I'm hoping he has the energy to do this.

Think we're going to get another film which touches on Bond's past and that makes it sound as if SPECTRE has already featured in Bond's life. Is Mendes viewing the films as a continuation of DAD? Bond was certainly more aged and worn in Skyfall to say it was only one film after Craig's Bond's first mission.

I think there is no danger SPECTRE will be a continuation of DAD. The Bond franchise have been very keen to distance themselves from DAD. I'm hoping it will be a modern take on the Bond movies of the 60's and I fear the story will involve one of the Oberhausers being behind the death of Bond's parents.

I'm not as impressed with Mendes as a director as many people are. I think he's above average, but not by much. His films recycle a lot of the same elements, and he doesn't seem as interested in meaty scripts, relying instead on old standbys and cliches. But he's not incompetent, and in this, he's a very safe choice.

I really doubt that SP will be a Continuation of DAD.

I meant the Dr. No to Die Another Day timeline. Mendes seemed to be hinting SPECTRE had some role in Bond's past. Which obviously they do , but not Craig's, new timeline, Bond/

It could be that this is a trad Bond film ditching the timeline of the last three outings but incorporating the Spectre of the past, in other words we cannot have Blofeld as that moves the film into official remake territory ie do we have Bond marrying Tracy again. So far the only remake is the unloved NSNA!

So we have Spectre rekindled like a new form of TB (tuberculosis not Thunderball) with a new head of Spectre, like they were aiming to do with Stromberg in TSWLM before McClory nixed it.

You're coming up with far fetched theories to avoid the obvious, but the simple explanation is usually the right one.

It would not be a remake, because the franchise has been rebooted. "The Dark Night" is not a remake of "Batman" (1989) even though the Joker is in both movies.

I liked Mendes' handling of SKYFALL. He made a film with few set-pieces feel like grand spectacle. No mean feat.

My only worry is that Christoph Waltz will turn out to be Bond's brother & there'll be an EMPIRE STRIKES BACK moment when Blofeld turns round in a chair at the end & tells Bond, "I am your father." But I have faith in the Bond team not to go down this route.

No...he definitely wanted to direct Bond again...I don't think he's finished yet either...I think he will direct DC's last Bond picture too...

As exciting as the title and the cast is, I still feel that Skyfall was a bit overrated and the middle part of the film (particularly the Scotland scenes ) were underwhelming. I was not impressed by the Thomas Newman score (but we know Mendes has a close link with him). However, Deakins' cinematography was outstanding and he would work wonders filming in Austria. I reserve judgment until I see the trailers (but hopefully they won't tell the whole story like the Skyfall one did!)

Deadline interview with Sam Mendes. He suggests that he will not return to direct Bond 25. "There is a sense of completeness that wasn't there at the end of Skyfall, and that's what makes this feel different. It feels like there is a rightness to it, that I have finished a journey. I am not talking about Daniel here because Daniel may absolutely turn around in six months time and feel his energy renewed".

Asked if Daniel Craig were to say, 'I'm in if Sam is in'. Mendes replied that by then he would probably be doing something else.
