Opinions, opinions, everyone has a different opinion.

I will say that after watching SP, I would like Craig to do one more Bond film before he leaves the role. I do think he can get away with it, and I'm not one of the biggest Craig fans on the site by any means.

You're so right about opinions! And SP has them as divided as most of the films in Craigger's run (coming from possibly THE biggest Craig fan on the site). My ideal would be two more from him, which would have him exit at 53 if they stay with 3 year spans between films...making him a year older for #26 than Brozzer was in DAD (if I remember correctly)...but I think he can do it. A Blofeld Trilogy to end his run. Probably over-optimistic, but there we are.

At any rate, Bond is in fine heath.

Brosnan was 49 in DAD, if going by the usual 1953 birth year. Some sources have his year of birth in 1952, perhaps since Remington Steele's birthday is in that year according to his passports. If Craig does another, he will likely be older than Brosnan in DAD. That would make him the second oldest Bond after Moore.

Yeah, wasn't at all sure about his age in DAD...I think Craig could do it...but whether or not he would is naturally the question. His approach to the role is certainly different than Moore's, but his physicality up to now has been so prominent that the adjustments he'd have to make would be a challenge.

Ok, to avoid spoilers, I did not read here, so please forgive me if some points have been already mentioned.

Yesterday, I saw Spectre on the first day in Germany
I left the cinema with mixed feelings.

First of all the projection was not sharp and pretty dull (not sure if that’s done with a purpose the dullness)
I liked the first half - the second not so much

Lea was sensational imo, but the love scene in the train was crap and where where all the people on the train??
That being said, Craig makes me (with one exception Caterina Murinho) cringe with love scenes.
The piece in the train was wooden and simply awful! He tries to give the "animalism" thing but totally fails imo. Terrible!

All in all, I am sick and tired of all the attempts to elaborate Bond’s past and his motives - they should just move on and give him a mission.

But I agree that from the ending one could get the impression that Craig is leaving for good - but maybe that’s their way to make a cliffhanger and keep the audience tense.

The PTS is really good (how did they do the first minutes without a cut!!!) but I am not sure what is more painful - watching the torture or hearing Smith’s falsetto.

The Morocco set felt a bit uninspired and I was not too overwhelmed with Waltz's performance.

All in all the movie is much better than SF imo but I prefer CR on every day of the year.

Coming back to my review from Thursday, I can report having seen the movie again - in original language and with working projecting equipment. Higgins is very happy!!!

Not once, I've checked my watch and I've enjoyed full the ride named SPECTRE!

Thanks to the many reviews and remarks here, I started to make out and appreciate these many little details that count in the end (Bellucci's tear for example) and I've very much enjoyed the second part now as well.

The film is not without flaws - the family motive is still poor imo and unnecessary (would have appreciated ESB as a "normal" supervillain much more) but Spectre as a whole is a masterpiece!!!!

I am still over the moon how Lea Seydoux is being portrayed, what a great actress and unconventionally beautiful lady!!!!

    All in all Higgins is a very camper and it's good to have such good feelings towards Bond which have not been there since I've left the theatre after CR! -{

You want more Bond and Swann falling in love you need to cut more stuff out of the film, you want more of Blofeld's motivation, more screentime for Waltz, you need to cut out more stuff.

I would have sacrificed some action for more dialogue, easily.

Replace Sam Smith's song with 20 seconds of fingernails on a chalkboard. :))

    I wouldn't have.

I don't really want a lot of character development in Bond, the main thing I want in films of this series is chases, shootouts, and the like.

Of course, I like a nice story too, but mainly to compliment the action and serve as a supporting force for it. I think too much story-focus makes Bond films boring, which is prob a reason why I'm not a big fan of CR ('06).

And we wonder why he's a Brosnan fan...

I have enjoyed reading this new spate of reviews.

I do agree rather that Mendes - and to some extent Craig - doesn't seem to like Bond that much and both have a left-wing attitude about it. Now, there's nothing wrong with being a lefty in itself, and in the GF novel Bond professes some sympathy for the Cuban rebels for what it's worth, but it doesn't really fit Bond. It's like having a campaigner against gas emissions as producer of Top Gear.

And I feel recent authors of the continuation novels have been like that too (I've not read TM yet).

Incidentally, someone once wrote that the FYEO pts does'nt fit the rest of the movie and it could almost be a dream of Bond's. Now I feel the whole of Spectre could be dismissed as a dream, it has an eerie feel to it, and the lack of other people in the form of extras gives it a lonely feel, like an Edward Hopper painting almost (the train scene in particular).

That's not to diss the film but it would solve problems if in the next film Craig woke up and it was all a dream, foreshadowing the real Spectre gang and the real ESB.

The ultimate denial... something you don't like or can't make sense of; dismiss it as a dream.

I also enjoy some nice dialogue scenes here and there, but yep, part of why I'm a Brosnan fan is because I love me a fun action sequence.

All in all Higgins is a very camper and it's good to have such good feelings towards Bond which have not been there since I've left the theatre after CR!

This is the first time I'd say that I had fun watching a Craig film. Not to speak ill of every Craig film prior to SP, but it's nice to see a Craig film that just felt like a fun watch.

Dalton's movies had some seriousness, but I think part of the reason why he's one of my fave Bonds is that he gave the impression that he was having fun playing Bond. Dalton never made it look like it was work, and despite his intense portrayal of 007, you get a sense that he had fun playing Her Majesty's best agent.

That's what I think they were missing with Craig: his Bond didn't quite feel like he was having fun. Until SP came out that is.

Bond actors, in my book, should always give the impression that they're enjoying themselves in the role. It's only natural that if Bond's enjoying himself, the audience will enjoy itself too, and be more than happy to join in his adventure.

Ofc, I'm just expressing my opinion here, so don't take me too seriously.

I liked it very much but am still digesting the ending. I absolutely loved the first two acts but I still have to process the last act. Especially the very end. Is it supposed to be ambiguous? Because I find it strange that we have Bond apparently leaving the service while so blatantly setting up a Bond vs. Blofeld rematch at the exact same time. It seems sort of...antithetical?

Its kind of setup to go either way with DCs tenure in my opinion.

Its not the first time 007 has thrown a wobbler with regards to his job (Lazenby / Dalton) etc

Im more interested in how Blofeld escapes however would they bring SPECTRE back into the frame for Bond 25? Would feel a bit rushed in my opinion and 007 needs another adventure

Unconventional opinion of DAD for sure.

Although I don't think it's a good idea to talk much about DAD on this thread unless we can compare it or correlate it in any way to SP.

The franchise has turned into cinematic equivalent of NFL Europe. The latest film is essentially a carbon copy of Mission Impossible Rouge Nation, in fact, some of shot locations appear to be same. The movies steals from Bill Grainger’s “Code Name November” as well.

The movie opens up in Mexico City on the Day of the Dead, I guess this is supposed to some sort of pun, but any way, the pre-title sequence is not a good as some critics have said. The quality film cause the action scenes to be jerky, somewhat reminds of the scene in last Die Hard movie. Everything is so predictable.

Then back to London where we find out that the 00 section is on the chopping block as this merger between MI-6 and MI-5 is about to take place. Then off to Rome where Bond is trying to hunt down the widow of the man he killed in Mexico City. She is played for 5 minutes by Monica Bellucci.

Bond finally meets the organization. The scene is which we are introduced to Spectre is reminiscent of that of Thunderball and the scene in the novel. Except it is not as good. There does not seem to be any reason for the existence of SPECTRE, we are never told. Then we go this pointless and tedious car chase through the streets of Rome. Bond is reunited with Mr. White from Casino Royale and Quantum where we find out that Mr White has a beautiful daughter played by Léa Seydoux, who seems to have only tight fitting clothing, not that I am complaining. He is living in seclusion and strikes a deal with Bond to have Bond protect his daughter. Léa Seydoux was actually in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. I wonder if this was some sort of inside joke. You Ghost Protocol…Spectre.

After an hour of moaning a groaning by Craig, anti-hero and villain are reunited in some of silliest dialog ever. Bond is tortured (along with audience) and the big hook is dropped. At this point in movie you just want the movie to end and is not impressed with the big revelation with the usual prop. In fact, I am not sure any under 30 will really understand it or care to understand it. The villain played by Christopher Waltz is Solomon Lane is the same character from Rogue Nation.

Again, leave to the writers to screw the film up. This movie lacks originality. It robs the remaining the literary connection to Fleming. Bond is no longer Bond, he is part of the Mission Impossible Force. Q is essentially Benjie. The movie does not seem to have relevance any more to series. This is not fault of the Craig era, but this started somewhere in the Brosnan era.

Craig cannot act. There was an attempt to lighten up the movie with humor, but all of the gags seem to fall flat and are ill timed the weird thing about the movie is that movie is a tribute film, but to whom? Perhaps, the film is Craig last. I wish EON would relinquish control over the movie but whether the movie is bad or good, it is going to make money. The music is good. However, the producers decided to reuse the musical themes established in Skyfall, so there is a lot of rehashed music.

One Star. Which is better than the No Star I gave Skyfall.

You may want to re-think whether you're really a James Bond fan.

I even give AVTAK, MR, and TMWAGG 2 stars (out of five) because there's usually something to like in a James Bond film.

No offence; and I don't want you to get upset over this

How do you know whether it was a good film or not? That comes with age and experience. At age 6 I was watching Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger and Disney cartoons

The thing is you cant at that age tell whether a film is bad or not

I suppose what happened to me was at MR in 79. Loved the locations, battles, girl etc but knew the film had some problems..

I think the film was/is good because what I see I like. I don't have any problems with th story or gadgets because that's what James Bond stands for. It's what made these films special, I personally don't need the "gritty realism" which any action film today has.
and one of the reasons why I like DAD so much is that it ticks so many aspects a cöassic Bond film should have...

I think there are two types of Bond fan.

    1) Those of us who want a decent film, realistic and a strong script (Casino Royale)
    2) Those who only require explosions etc to maintain their attention span and don't care about a decent story.

I am hoping Bond films cater for 1), otherwise James Bond is simply a slightly, more-serious Austin Powers.

I think there are two types of Bond fan.

    1) Those of us who want a decent film, realistic and a strong script (Casino Royale)
    2) Those who only require explosions etc to maintain their attention span and don't care about a decent story.

I am hoping Bond films cater for 1), otherwise James Bond is simply a slightly, more-serious Austin Powers.
luckily, all of them have decent stories

I think this comment is a bit arrogant. What makes a good film is subjective, and depends on what the viewer likes and dislikes. Being a fan of serious or campy Bond doesn't mean you have better taste. Please be more respectful of the diversity that is Bond fandom.
