    SAUCER COUNTRY Part 14 - 1 of 2

WARNING: This story may contain strong language and scenes that may cause distress to those of a nervous disposition.

Unfortunately due to declining sales the plug was pulled on Saucer Country. Fortunately the writers were given a final issue to try and tie things up. This wasn’t entirely successful, but it was certainly better than just ending the series without any notice at all.

    Concludes tomorrow…

It's a shame the story was ended prematurely, there's a lot in it to like. Of course I loved the Monty Python joke, too!

I wonder if it was down to poor sales, and they decided to cut their losses? 🤔

I gave the reason in post #452.

But not quite the end…four years later the team found another publisher who continued the story in Saucer State. I have this slated for later on in the year…I think a change of pace is needed now (away from the conspiracy/alternate history genre) so next weekend it’s the beginning of…wait and see…

Oh, by the way, the next instalment of The Department of Truth is delayed a little, but expect it in 3 or 4 weeks time.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Damn. You're a tease, CoolHandBond, do you know that?

And speaking for myself, you just keep posting the conspiracy/alternate history genre stuff as long as you like.

  • Sir MilesSir Miles The Wrong Side Of The WardrobePosts: 31,064Chief of Staff

I gave the reason in post #452.

    So you did 🫣🤣

Enjoyable stuff…and like Barbel - keep posting that stuff 😁

Ok. By popular demand the conspiracy/alternate history genre will continue next weekend 👍🏻

This weeks birthday comic covers 5-11 May…

Many moons ago I posted the adventures of Father Shandor which appeared in HOUSE OF HAMMER magazine. When that title folded it was resurrected some years later in WARRIOR. I promised to post the new adventures but didn’t get around to it…until now. The first 3 issues of WARRIOR reprinted the earlier episodes so it wasn’t until #4 that the new adventures began…so, better late than never…

SAUCER COUNTRY has just ended on this thread - the first instalment contained information on George Adamski - here are a few pages from his first book, Flying Saucers Have Landed (1953)…

There's more reading than I have time for right now, I'll get back soon.

Yes, lots to catch up on…😁

Well, that was an unexpected Father Shandor tale. It did not play out the expected way, based on the previous instalments.

  • Sir MilesSir Miles The Wrong Side Of The WardrobePosts: 31,064Chief of Staff

The Adamski stuff I find very interesting…but from the point of view that I can’t believe people believed his nonsense…🤗

Yes, and John Bolton had too much other work to continue and the new artist is inferior, but I will post a few more episodes to see what the reaction will be.

What needs to be considered is that it’s 1953. Things were a lot different then. I’ve been watching a bunch of old Sky At Night episodes recently and even in the mid 60’s Patrick Moore was saying that it was very probable that Mars had vegetation by the latest pictures taken. The early chapters of Flying Saucers Have Landed have a wealth of old information that I’m going to check on when I have the time, but from what I’ve read then Erich Von Daniken certainly used a lot of this information in his books (yes, I know he’s been discredited as well, but it’s conspiracy theory we are talking about!).

And Roswell, Rendlesham etc are routinely derided by governments to cover up the real reason, anyway 😁😁😁

So we come to the 60’s in the Batman Family history…

BATMAN #136 - December 1960 - The Challenge of the Joker - In which our heroes feel the Earth move and have a burning ring of fire!

And for a change - the letters page…

And to show that 65 years later - that things never change…

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 42,066Chief of Staff

A line worthy of the TV show Robin -

"Good thing we has this rubber Bat-Raft in the Batmobile's trunk compartment!"

I wonder how many of those letters were real?

    Don't remember "Inside Earth".

And yes, sadly, some things never change.

Strange phenomena, alternate history and conspiracies seem to be popular at the moment in a few various threads on AJB so that brings me to a title published by Gold Key Comics - UFO Flying Saucers. What made this interesting was that its stories were based on accounts of actual UFO sightings and close encounters. Gold Key Comics were famous for their marvellous painted covers which drew the eye on spinner racks next to the competition. Some of the stories from the pages of UFO Flying Saucers (later called UFO & Outer Space) are famous accounts of contact with extraterrestrials or unidentified craft, such as Kenneth Arnold’s famous 1947 encounter which coined the phrase “flying saucers” and the Warminster “Thing of 1964” from the UK. The stories are exciting and fast-paced.

Interesting, a more fact-based approach than usual.

A bit of an experiment today and tomorrow as the text is in Spanish - so brush up on your Spanish or get your Spanish-English app working! If feedback dictates that readers would like to see more then I will put it on the schedule. These are adaptations of the books - so if you are familiar with the plots of those, then following the strips will be relatively easy.

Chilean publisher Zig-Zag acquired the rights to create their own independent James Bond comic which lasted for 59 issues between 1968 and 1971. Titled 007 James Bond, the fully coloured series included original material and adaptations of the James Bond novels. The Chilean series was artistically modelled on the films and utilised the likenesses of many of its performers, including Sean Connery. Whether the actors got any payment for this I do not know.

    Mañana? El nunca muere!

I had to cheat there, my Spanish is very poor. So poor, in fact, that after two panels I just gave up and watched the pretty pictures. Fortunately this is is a story I know very well so I could follow it no problem.

Nicely done, the characters look right, and I believe it was the correct decision to skip the bridge at Blades prologue in this context. Nice to see a faithful adaptation.

What is that car he's driving? It isn't a Bentley as in the book and it isn't an Aston Martin either.

  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 9,472MI6 Agent

The car looks familiar but I’m unsure of the name - is it a Porsche or a Lotus? Someone must know?
