"Die polizei" by kaisers Orchestra. Great band, I've seen them in consert. The lyrics are in Norwegian and English with a heavy German accent, so I've supplied a translation below:

Macca's weaker voice - which often annoys the hell out of me, it ruins potential pop hits/classics, I wish he'd do a better take or fake it - does work very well in some instances and goes back a long way, Memory Almost Full has one example: You Tell Me (a favourite of Paul Weller). Also, Women & Wives off his last album, McCartney III.
I do wonder what his take is on using AI for some vocals, its ability to tart things up, as with Lennon's vocals on that last Beatles single Now and Then. That way, he could write a pop classic like Can't Buy Me Love and 'sing' it too, I don't know to what extent that's cheating. Lennon messed with his voice on tracks like Rain and Tomorrow Never Knows, Macca did it on his McCartney II album, though it always feels better to do that from a position of strength.

Macca still insists on singing his songs live in the key he recorded them in - which is why his voice can struggle, and he now has more ‘help’ from his live band with the singing…
I don’t think he’d use AI to de-age his voice though 🤔
Thanks for sharing. It is sung in a weaker voice but I think it goes along quite well with the reflective theme of the song. It reminds me a bit of some of the songs on his album Memory Almost Full (2007).

The whole album is less than 30 mins long 😳 none of the original members are still alive 😕 and we know how they got their name 😉
Yes, it was one of two songs they recorded for their first label, Steeltown Records, and whilst not a commercial success it got them their start and they were later signed by Motown. It has a lovely melody and great lead vocals from a very young MJ. And it's not out of place with other soul artists of the era, as you say.

I think I'll leave off listening to any more tracks from the new Macca album. I intend to buy it on vinyl and sit down and listen to it in one go with a bottle of Malbec at some point. That said, isn't Ringo's album coming out around the same time?

The Police
It was late
and I was on my way
from Germany to Poland
they want everything I've heard
and everything I had seen,
die polizei, die polizei, die polizei,
they want everything Ive heard, die polizei.
And it was known
that I carried a document
of such character
which made them take me in
and question me out,
die polizei, die polizei, die polizei.
They took me in and questioned me out, die polizei.
We know who you are.
We know eveything about you,
and we know where you live,
and we know where you live.
Herr polizei, Herr polizei.
You never find me again
because I have gone off the beaten path, herr polizei.
You never see me again.
And I ran.
God knows where I ran,
but I could not see a thing.
For all I knew, I ran in circles.
But they weren't able to follow,
die polizei, die polizei, die polizei.
They weren't able to follow, die polizei
We know who you are.
We know everything about you,
and we know where you live,
and we know where you live.
Herr polizei, herr polizei.
You never find me again
because I have gone off the beaten path,
herr polizei..

Yeah, I’ve listened to this a couple of times now…his voice is definitely weaker…

No, you probably wouldn’t 🤭
The song is about an old man remembering days long past…which it obviously is…so his weaker voice works on this track…

Interesting. That wouldn't have gone astray among any of those soul groups of the era.
