I did very similar, except I didn’t get to sell most of my stuff as my ex-wife decided she wanted it 🤷🏻♂️ but I got the books, the posters and other bits…☺️
Stuff from 1970 today…old money, when £5 was a lot of money not the price of a cup of coffee…what we were watching on ITV…the top 30 singles (John Barry in there 😁)…and what choccy treats we were scoffing (I remember most of them but a few escape memory).
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
It's probably not surprising how many of those songs I remember- some I could even pick up a guitar and play, though I wouldn't remember all the words.
The old money, £sd. Decimalisation was a big thing at the time!
Lost In Space I loved at the time, but wouldn't watch again now (unlike Star Trek).

This gets played semi-regularly as an interstitial on a radio show I listen too 😁
Think there’s 4 or 5 that I don’t know from that top 30 😳 I’ve always liked the Chicory Tip song which was co-written by Giorgio Moroder with German lyrics…I think it was the first UK No.1 record to use a Moog synthesiser 🤔
A few of those chocolate bars are no more…loved a Curly Wurly though 😁
No North West tv guide 😮🤭 I like the look of The Best Things In Life : The Fugitive - a great cast in that one.
I’ve never heard Decimalisation by Max Bygraves, I do remember the lessons at school teaching us how to convert new pence into old pence and vice-versa in 1971 though 😁
@Sir Miles Here’s the Thunderball bubblegum cards that you mentioned…
And the cards given away in boxes of tea would be put into an album like this…
The lineup for the new Radio One station…
Variety cereal packs…
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
As far as I know they're still available, @Barbel. I did buy them a while back when I wanted a very quick breakfast before work as the portion sizes are just right. However, it's definitely not the most economical way to buy breakfast cereal! It's more something fun for kids I think. I remember the appeal they had as a child though I think we very rarely got them as they were seen as a frippery.

I remember the cereal variety packs…I’m sure you can still get them, but I don’t think they are produced in the same numbers that they used to be…🤔
I vaguely recall the Brooke Bond cards too…although I was a little young for the opening day of Radio1, although I do know most of the presenters…

I thought that the infamous Jimmy Savile was meant to be one of the first DJs on Radio 1 when it launched in 1967? I don't see him on that advert about the launch of Radio 1 so was that yet another thing he lied about? I wouldn't be a bit surprised. I have seen footage from 1963 showing Michael Aspel reading the main BBC evening news. I didn't realise he later presented Radio 1 too. He's been around a long time and thankfully is still on the go.

@Silhouette Man that's just the weekend rota, I think Saville did the chart show on Tuesdays. I may be wrong. Saville's Travels wasn't until the 80s. I wanted to check but his name has been removed from Wiki's section on Radio 1.

Radio 1 started on 30th September 1967, Saville didn’t join the station until 1968 when he presented Saville’s Travels on Sundays from June 2nd 1968…he was still on Radio Luxembourg until then.
Thank you for the corrections @Sir Miles my only excuse is that I wasn't around in the sixties. So who presented the chart show? I had a memory from the seventies it was him. Maybe I got mixed up with his retro shows.
Sir MilesThe Wrong Side Of The WardrobePosts: 31,068Chief of Staff
Savile presented the retro chart show on Radio 1 for many years, playing the Top 10 from years past. Mike Raven went on to have a short acting career in horror movies.
They sell the cereal variety packs over here, I did buy one a few years ago for old times sake but they are priced very high.
@Sir Miles Radio Luxembourg - the signal kept fading in and out! Quite a few Luxembourg dj’s ended up on Radio 1 at various times.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
As this thread evolves I’ve taken the chance to rename it, so the new title is VintageStuff - TheNostalgiaThread, as coined by regular contributors @Barbel and @Sir Miles
A Hard Day’s Night FOH stills…
Wall’s Sky Ray lolly featuring Doctor Who…
A great nights TV - George & Mildred, The Sweeney and Banacek!
Do they still sell Arctic Roll?
Fawlty Towers will be in a lot of peoples top 10 favourite television series…
Lord “Lucky” Lucan was not the sort to commit suicide, he was whisked away by one of his rich friends, in my opinion.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
The Lucan story - every so often one newspaper or other ( I think they take turns) comes out with a "Lord Lucan - The True Story" type headline when they've had a Diana one the week before and are planning a "Major Medical Breakthrough" one for the week after.
@Sir Miles@CoolHandBond I'm glad you cleared that up for ne. When I write my memoir, I will try to remember better who I was listening to and when. Or maybe research this thread for data. Re: Radio Luxembourg - yes, the reception wasn't great at times - espicuslly on my Frosties transistor radio - but in the 80s the station played a chart show every night, top 40 UK, top 40 USA, dance, indie, easy listening, very comprehensive for a music mad teen. They had a guy who suffered from MS presenting and all my mates thought he was drunk or on coke until I explained. Can't remember his name, but I have a vague memory he was also on Radio 1.

Thanks @chrisno1 and @Sir Miles for that regarding Savile and Radio 1. Although I'm now over 40 all of this was still before my time sadly so I wasn't too sure beyond hearing that Savile was one of the original DJs on Radio 1. He still was although he hadn't been there right from the start in 1967. I do remember an older Jimmy Savile with shorter hair being on Jim'll Fix It around 1994 or so but the show also ended at that time. I don't remember finding him creepy, just rather eccentric. Of course we since found out a lot about his nefarious activities and crimes. I recently bought some Louis Theroux DVDs from eBay and I've watched his interviews with Savile and others like the Hamiltons, Ann Widdecombe and Chris Eubank so he's (regrettably) been to the forefront of my mind again. In the Louis Theroux programme from 2000 Savile did come across as very tricky, evasive and like he was constantly putting on a front with all his patter. I suppose when you have dark secrets to hide it makes you like that though...

I’ve never heard of What’s On Next - but I’m going to go and look that up…especially if Barry Cryer was a contributor.
I’ve never heard of What’s On Next either. I’ve never watched Coronation Street either, but know about the main older characters from reading about them in the newspapers. I loved George and Mildred, Brian Murphy was one of the best comedic actors ever, his timing was perfect.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

@Barbel You’re right, it’s Frank on a 1945 cover.
@Sir Miles I did too, sold most of my Bond stuff before I moved here, kept my quad posters, first edition hardcovers and a few more items, though.
I did very similar, except I didn’t get to sell most of my stuff as my ex-wife decided she wanted it 🤷🏻♂️ but I got the books, the posters and other bits…☺️
Some foreign lobby cards with terrific surrounding artwork…
Fantastic stuff, it's great seeing these!
I'm guessing that Bela Lugosi was made into Dracula in the dubbing for those films above, cos he's certainly not Dracula in the original versions.
I do like lobby cards…and some of the foreign ones are excellent 😁
Vintage stuff…who remembers…
…being excited about which plastic toy would fall out of the cereal box?
…the ice cream girl at the cinema?
…I-Spy books?
…bubblegum cards?
…chemistry sets, I always wanted one but never did.
You might as well call this the nostalgia thread, CHB, or at least it is for (ahem) some of us.
Yes to the plastic toys in cereal boxes - my favourite being the Apollo 11 stuff round about the time of the moon landing.
Yes to the ice cream girl, though we had an older lady at my local.
No to the next two, and vague memories of the last one.
It certainly is the nostalgia thread 😁
Plastic toys in cereal boxes ✅
Definitely the girl carrying the ridiculously small & expensive ice creams & choc ices ✅
I-Spy books ✅ although these belonged to a friend of mine at the time.
Bubblegum cards - but football (or Bond) not Monkees ✅
And I never had the chemistry sets ❌
Thanks for the replies, gents 🍸
Nostalgia thread…I like that 😁

My life has not been complete - I never saw any of those (well, apart from the cereal packs - do they still do them, I wonder?).
Kellogg's Variety is still available, yes, though sadly without any TV promotional panels on the front!
Thanks, @Silhouette Man. I guess I just look at the wrong shelves in the supermarket.

I believe it was Alan “Fluff” Freeman that first presented the chart show on Radio 1. I don’t think Saville ever presented the chart show on Radio 1.

Pretty sure What's On Next was a game show, a chairman with two sets of comedians. But that's all I remember.
