And Golden Wonder crisps. Were they the first brand to introduce flavoured crisps to the UK? I think cheese ‘n’ onion and salt and vinegar were the first ones.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

    I remember the front pages from 2 & 3 especially…and the last one ☺️

Not sure Lennon would have made the front pages of most of the newspapers back then, such were the times. I could be wrong.

He absolutely did…front page of practically every newspaper…Not sure why you’d think he wouldn’t 🤔

Well, mainly because that's the only front page I think I've ever seen of Lennon's death - oh no, hang on, the Evening Standard had a good one, again with a picture of a relatively recent Lennon.

Newspapers like the Times were broadsheets and I think the view was that 'he's just a pop star'; certainly some of these legends never got an obit page at the time. It was more a style rule as much as anything too, I mean those old front pages of the Times in all black and white and dull headlines, I'm not sure it was the thing to put showbiz folk on the front page. What would the Times have run for Elvis' death?

Ready to be proved wrong, I will Google front pages...

Edit: Okay, the Express, Sun, Mail all run it as front page, rather disappointing headlines: They loved him yeah yeah yeah for instance.

I wouldn't go looking however, some of the front pages have horrible pictures of Lennon on the mortician's slab - so avoid...

John Lennon was one of the most famous music artists of all time, it’s inconceivable that his murder (or even death, if natural) wouldn’t have made the front page of every newspaper.

The guy was an icon and just starting to make music again…I’m not sure if you know this @Napoleon Plural but Lennon used to be in a pretty decent rock & roll band once upon a time ☺️

The photo lab kit looks interesting…

The Aurora model kits were fantastic…

Maybe the haunted house and record were good…

These probably promised more than they delivered though…

Some fabulous tat there…I always liked the “don’t delay, use this rush coupon to order today”…before you changed your mind 😁

It reminds me of the old Surf washing powder adverts which promised, "If you're not happy, Lever Brothers will give your money back". 😀

Has anyone actually tried for a refund? I wonder if the companies concerned actually refunded dissatisfied customers?

When we thought a bottle of Mateus Rose was the height of sophistication…

Milk shake flavouring… banana was my favourite, blended with ice cream and a banana of course…

Some classics on this 1966 chart…

Also from 1966 the first World Cup mascot, World Cup Willie 😁

Something youngsters won’t recognise…a public telephone box…the ones in London used to have calling cards advertising special services…

    A great lobby card…

One of the great range of cars that Corgi used to sell…

”You can’t put one in your mouth without chewing” was one of the naughty slogans used by Rowntree

Wow - you were posh…we could barely afford…

And I still prefer banana milkshakes to this day 😁

I know all of those songs from the 1966 chart…despite it being just over 7 months before I was born 🤣

I also recall World Cup Willie…and phone boxes - usually vandalised 🙄 or used as a toilet 😖

I rather like a drop of Mateus. A bit sweet yes, just a bit, and not a patch on a rose from Provence, but goes well with snacks and most white fish.

I've never tried it myself but I'd imagine you could as such an offer designed to induce you into buying their product would become an enforceable contract term if you were not happy with the product after you purchased it. Otherwise such an offer of a refund would be deemed misrepresentation. Of course the complaint from the customer would have to be deemed genuine as well.

👍🏻🥂 Rose is the perfect drink for hot days, fortunately it’s hot here every day 😁

I would imagine it’s a lot easier nowadays with present day laws but in the days of those ads it may have been more difficult?

Ah, Blue Nun, that and Black Tower were popular brands back in the day. My taste buds have improved a bit since those days 😂

Yes, I'd say that it would've been harder asserting your rights as there'd have been less consumer protection legislation on the statute books in those days.

Great gifts for mum and dad on their special days…

It was good to be a boy back then…

I used to love building model kits…

The fabulous Mollie Sugden as Mrs Slocombe who was always having trouble with her pussy in Are You Being Seved?

Love the lawyer friendly number for the secret agent, 07-11.

I saw those Aurora kits in shops, never was interested enough to get one. I wonder if they're still around?

(Checked - yes, they're available on Amazon)

  • Sir MilesSir Miles The Wrong Side Of The WardrobePosts: 30,896Chief of Staff

Never heard of Jade East before 🤔

And, like Barbel, I too saw those monster kits in the shops and was not interested enough to buy them.

I remember Jade East. Hai Karate followed a few years later using the same theme.

Quadrophenia - great movie! Set in 1964 one scene shows a cinema sign advertising the 1978 movie Heaven Can Wait. Loads of people in the background are wearing obvious 70’s clothing (this doesn’t detract from this being a super movie).

    The Pink Panther…

Matchbox cars…my younger brother had the Hot Wheels race set, I used to love going round to mum and dads place to play it with him 😂

    I could never solve this…

    I hate Turkish Delight…

Top Deck shandy made kids feel grown up…

    When Eurovision was good…

    I don’t remember this one…
