Gadgets going to the wayside

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find a similar question. In Skyfall, Bond has limited gadgets if any. His remark was that "...it isn't exactly Christmas" to which the response was along the lines of, we don't go for that stuff anymore.

Are we at a point in time with technology that his gadgets just aren't that cool anymore? Back in the early days of Bond, anything could me made up because it was so far out there that people were fascinated by it. My eight year old and I were watching Diamonds are Forever and he laughed at the part where Bond's fingerprint was lifted from the glass and analyzed by a closet computer. He mentioned he thought he had an "app" for that on his tablet.

It just seems to me like it really MIGHT be a good idea to abandon gadgets and just rely on Bond the man to get the job done. Gadgets might have to go so over the top (by today's standards) to impress that it would just be silly. This coming from a guy who can still remember how cool I thought my first Star Wars digital watch was with the red leds and all.

To an extent I agree "Gadgets " will play a much smaller part in future Bonds But I'm sure
from time to time Bond will get a new toy to play with.

His Phone will have plenty of apps supplied by Q with many devilish ways of Helping
Bond. :v

I'm all for losing the over the top gadgets and I like they have focused on Bond the man and not Bond the gadget guy. I know I'll get some grief over this but I really didn't care for those seems where he was issued a certain piece of kit only to be used to save his life a couple seems later ala the Moonraker dart gun.

I was thinking how many of the old gadgets that Bond has
used that could now Fit ( with the help of Q ) in to a Phone.

His Geiger counter ( Dr No ), his various safe cracking gadgets.
even firing a dart as in Moonraker.

Lasers are always a go to weapon of choice!
The tech these days is so savvy that having Bond working 'off the grid' using old school methods (with a few tricks up his sleeve, of course) would make us believe in his abilities even more.
I think the Bond gadgets have gone over the top so many times that the 'educated consumer' is wary of them from the start.

I like Gadgets, but i like Bond using his wits to get out of tricky situations. in FYEO. I liked Bond using his shoelaces to haul himself up after being attacked by Apostis. i thought that was really clever and resourceful, no gadgetry involved.

DAD was too reliant on gadgets, not enough of Bond using his wits. the only instance i can think of is Bond kite surfing to escape the Icarus

I think its partially because, as Daniel Craig put it "that gadgets are so prevalent in todays society,everybody has one, its near impossible to come up with something thats original and new" but also think that gadgets dont really fit in that well with Craigs Bond unless its something like the tracking beacon or signature gun.

We was on a exercise about 10 years ago (combined agencies sort of thing)
and the spooks handed my mate a tray (the sort of thing your mum would bring cups of tea on )
any way this ordinary tray had a built in camera in it , so the spook technicians could watch
what /who /where was going on before giving the nod to the men with long hair from Hereford
to go in and do what they do best.Now that was over ten years ago , god knows what they have now

Yes of course

but when your dealing with terrorists,, you will try to arrange a secure land line
(not radio ) as any Tom ,Dick, Harry could listen in ,it happened to Dianas phone, and also
if you click on your PR they could ,detonate bobby trap explosives ,from the radio signals

I love reading about some new gadget that the services have. I remember buying
one of the first super zoom cameras ( 12x, now they have them up to 50x ) thinking
if this is what us civilian's have, What must the military have as they're always 20
or 30 years ahead .

) ( I' m a stalker in my spare time )

Even as a kid I couldn't believe that thay had a gun that could shoot round corners
in WW2.

( Updated I know, still looks cool )
So i think with a little imagination they could still come up with a few gadgets to
impress a cinema audience. B-)

Ditching gadgets in their entirity won't happen, because that are a part of real world espionage as much as Bond's. I think what they and how they are used will Change a fair bit though. We do live in a very techy world now, but the devices we have access to are probably nothing compared to the toys the inteligence services have access to! Its a question of how to keep realistically ahead in the Bond stories, while keeping the balance of the fact Bond the man is the centre of it all.
