Die Another Day Screenplay Drafts

MarcAngeDracoMarcAngeDraco Piz GloriaPosts: 564MI6 Agent
Anybody know if any of the drafts have been published online? Or better still, if someone has a draft and can email it through? I'm looking to read any version that was written before Tamahori made it into the film we have today.

I have heard that they haven't surfaced, and I have done many a google search, but thought I'd try my luck here with other passionate, informed aficionados.

In the meantime, be sure to watch the special features that have some illuminating making-of documentaries.

Lee goes on record saying that no director wants to be responsible for the worst Bond film and DAD is sure to be awesome.

They also interview the CGI team behind the ice-surfing segment and show a meeting with Wilson/Purvis/Wade going over the script.

It's so cool to look at "what might have been," for the best and worst Bond films. Charles Helfenstein's book on the making of OHMSS reveals what DAF with Lazenby would have looked like, and Lee Pfeiffer's The Incredible World of 007 has a section dedicated to many earlier drafts.

Im not sure about any obtainable screenplay drafts, but there sure is a lot to be found on the matter. Wai Lin returning briefly in Hong Kong is a well known one. That was around the third time they had the idea to bring back a past Bond girl! Such a shame they still have never went for it... (Anya Amasova in AVTAK and Natalya in TND would have been amazing oppertunitys too!)

Another notorious one that springs to mind was Tamahori idea to bring back Connery as a past 007, to confirm a codename theory. Glad they pulled the plug on that one! (Not that Connery would have said yes anyway..)

Tamahori's vision sure was crazy! As Firemass pointed out the special features always add a lot too. The way Tamahori speaks about the next generation of Bond films, and how CGI is the future and is "endless and effortless" is almost cringe worthy. He completely missed the point on what made the stunt work and practical effects so amazing in the past films he was making his desperate homage too

Yeah I'm aware of a lot of these... Gala Brand was going to be the Bond girl, but changed to Miranda Frost when she was made the mole. It was more focused on Bond uncovering the mole by hunting down Zao, as opposed to what we have.

Tamahori added an energy and colour to Die Another Day that I appreciate. But he also suggested a lot of ideas (some stuck, some didn't) that were ridiculous. Connery coming back is one of them.

I agree. Pre-Iceland, DAD has one of the strongest set-ups, an excellent few pieces of action (PTS, sword fight) and a great full throttle performance from Brozza. We all know what happens following...

IMO the surrounding action films to DAD in the early 2000s had odd energies and styles. Think of Charlies Angels, Spiderman, XXX, MI2, The Italian Job, Fast/Furious - they're all brightly coloured themed romps that mostly miss the mark in the quality department - many of them have dated too. DAD tends to fall into this category.

Very interesting observation. Those were all pretty bad films.

I'd have mentioned it if they did. The phrase I used was "may be of interest" indicating a desire to be helpful.

And no thanks for your attitude, MarcAngeDraco, and not for the first time, either. Consider yourself warned.

No I won't. But you can, for all I care. The 'first' time you refer to was me discussing CR IIRC, and I believe you misinterpreted my post as an attack on you.

Ok, I gave you a chance.
There were other incidents which haven't been mentioned, and if I was as petty as you state you'd have been banned in March not October.

Reading this thread, I'm not sure why MarcAngeDraco was banned...

"Anybody know if any of his earlier insults have been published online? Or better still, if someone has a draft and can email it through? I'm looking to read any version that was written before Barbel made it into the drama we have today." :D

Anyway, the final plane fight out was a last draft amendment by the director, it was due to end at the Ice Palace I believe.

Of course I won't be publicly discussing a ban, but to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding no posts were edited or deleted.

We are (normally) sad to have to ban people...we really don't wish to do so and it's (usually) the last resort - and they are discussed beforehand.

Oh man really? That would have been so much better. I actually like DAD despite its uneven tone, but the final plane fight is downright awful.

yeah I second that, interesting indeed. A lot early 2000's action films were just silly, ridiculous and full of excess before Batman Begins, Bourne and 9/11 changed the cinematic landscape.

Wouldn't that remove the demonstration of Icarus in the mine-field? Without it, Icarus wouldn't make (as much) sense? Or are you saying that would still happen and they'd return to Iceland?

Well, we did get a sneak peek during Graves' presentation and a working demonstration during Bond's ridiculous escape that culminated in the ice surfing.

Did Graves goofy body armor suit have anything to do with Icarus?

Mmmm, but Icarus in North Korea does tie the story together from the PTS to the ending. However weak that is...
