Looking like M's younger Brother could be an interesting dynamic. Oh no, please no.Not again... :#

Take this with a pinch of salt but I see in the UK press claim that a second season of the Night Manager has been green lighted, some rags saying including the return of Tom Hiddleston (well guess he is the Night Manager after all)

If true surely this would be an odd move by him if he is indeed the next Bond, I cant see EON would let him play this character if he is under contract for Bond

According to a current story in Deadline Hollywood the producers are refuting that there is anything concrete at this point for a second season and that "everything is up in the air" but they are not ruling out a second season. If anything, this just continues to muddy up the Bond situation even more. As Yoda would say "In the dark we are".

The article I read had whats her name (director) confirming / quoted a script is in progress

From the article dated March 9th 2017 in Deadline Hollywood "Following a misleading report in a British trade this week, questions have arisen as to the status of a second season of BBC/AMC hit event series The Night Manager. The partners, along with producer The Ink Factory, have sought to quell the hullabaloo that story caused, and are clearly stating that nothing is set. In a statement today, they say, “The Ink Factory, BBC and AMC are in the early stages of developing a potential second series of The Night Manager, but nothing is definite yet and we have nothing to announce. There’s no question fans of and the folks behind the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning spy drama would like to see it return. But there are certain obstacles in the way which include the fact that the source material’s author, John le Carré, has “never allowed his characters to go off-book,” executive producer Stephen Garrett told me this week.

Further, he said, “There’s not even a script. There’s just conversations and thoughts… It’s not ruled out and it’s not ruled in. It’s entirely possible and we’d love to do it.”

I had a dream last night where bond 25 was released and DC was fighting men made out of stone. Not even joking.

This lack of news is screwing with my head!

I think we're all frustrated. At the very minimum EON must have scriptwriters working by now. Why not make it public? Some belive the producers were spooked by how much was leaked or or discovered ahead of scedule on SPECTRE, so this time they want to keep as much as possible secret for as long as possible. That would be incredibly frustrating, but I suspect ultimately rewarding.

I thought there was an announcement a couple of weeks ago that Purvis and Wade had started on a script.

That can either be good news or bad news, depending on your point of view.

No, but I have however been playing the new Zelda game a lot lately, which involves what I said, so I'm sure that is what merged it all in my brain ;)

After giving this plenty of thought I realize we are all probably over thinking this due to no real news, and the simplest answer is usually the correct one. Take these facts and quotes quotes , Eon wants DC and is their first choice, Michael Wilson " we have a contract Daniel just needs to sign it". Othello co-star alludes to DC returning, DC "keener than not to do it" "greatest job in the world", and of course DC "At this point I'd only be doing it for the money" leads me to believe Dc is returning and this is all a prolonged ordeal for him the get the best possible deal.

That has as much validity as anything. Just to add, could it be that Craig is signed on in principle and they are just awaiting confirmation of a director, supporting cast and possibly a new distributor before making an official announcement? Craig also has two films pending release (Logan Lucky and Kings). Logan Lucky is scheduled for an August '17 release and Craig is just part of an ensemble cast so his participation in promoting the film may be lessened. Kings has no release date as of yet but he is one of the leads. Purity is still listed as in pre-production....so who knows?

Purity is supposed to start filming next month.

Purity is a prestige miniseries, so shooting will take longer than a typical TV show (The Night Manager took 31/2 months to film six episodes). Since they're shooting two seasons worth of Purity, I expect that Craig is booked up through the end of this year.

On IMDB it says that he's only in 2 episodes of Purity. I wonder if this is accurate

That's interesting. I've not read the book, but from what little knowledge I have of it, Craig's character, Christian Wolf, while being pivotal to the story and recurring is not really the main lead so he may have limited screen time. It is plausible that most of his scenes could only add up to screen time that is the equivalent to two episodes. With studio sets and CGI and clever use of alternative locations he could be done his part in a relatively short period of time.

Apparently it's going to be 20 episodes. I doubt very much that Craig will appear in only two.

In the book, Andreas Wolf is the main plot driver, more so than Purity Tyler.

But the question is how much screen time will he really have?

It's twenty one-hour episodes, so I expect the whole book to be there. In the book, Andreas Wolfe is probably in 40-50% of the scenes. He's the character that links all the others and the one with the most developed back story.

When Jonathan Franzen was on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' last year he said Pip (Purity) and Andreas were the main characters, and that the TV show would follow the book. Not sure if he means the content or timeline, or both.

Andreas does link all the characters together, but isn't in it all that much, and when he is, quite a chunk of it is him in his youth. I assume they will include that in the show with a child/teen actor, and then Daniel will take over during or after the college years.

It does appear that Craig's onscreen time could be significant but not to the level of say The Night Manager where Tom Hiddleston was in 75% of the scenes.

"Red Snow" would actually be a good title for a Bond movie. :007)

Apologies if this is considered spoilery for those who haven't read the book.

There are exchanges between Wolf and other main characters that take place entirely via email and sms at various points in the book. So in theory, they could chose to film Wolf typing and sending the messages, or just the other character receiving a message from Wolf without actually seeing him. If they go for the big character reveal then he will likely be a name on a screen before we physically see him.
