For those who have seen it...

If you have seen Casino Royale... Three questions:-

1. What were your top three parts of the film?

2. Would you improve/ change anything?

3. Does Daniel Craig get your vote of the "00" status?

For me:-
1. I loved the part at the beginning before the song. The part when he's getting tortured and the very last line and music.

2. I would like to have seen, what was said earlier this year, you see Bond get his 00 status with the [kill 1] STAMP [kill 2] STAMP and finally STAMP '7'.

3. Daniel deserves every part of that 00-even the 7!

1.Bond chasing the bomber in Madagascar, everything that happens in and between the big pokergame, and everything from kidnapping to torture scene
2.can't think of anything that should change
    3.Daniel craig IS James Bond/ 007 :007) B-)

    1. The torture sequence takes the cake for me. It could have been more brutal, and I'd have preferred it to be. But the impact of the scene in terms of defining Craig's Bond, and defining Bond as a whole, is undeniable. The PTS is awesome, and the poisoning sequence I felt was great and a refreshing taste of mortality for Bond.

    2. The title sequence was horrific. They should have used the original concept, flashing photos of the crime scenes with some dancing girls. They should have used the first YKMN mix, louder and harder.

I would have made the torture scene much more brutal, and I would have given the love story much more time to mature.

    3. Daniel has well earned it, from this end.

Yea, I definately agree there about the song.. I think the DVD may be a bit more brutal when it comes to the torture scene - hopefully it will b 15 or an R

    1. What were your top three parts of the film?
    The pre-title and title sequence.
    Bond at M's apartment.
The end scene - end line - end music.

    2. I would take out all the mobile phones.
Take out the over the top 'heart stopping'
    defribulator sequence.
I would remove Bond saying 'cellphone' at the
end of the film - he's British after-all.

    3. Daniel Craig was superb as James Bond.
    Nobody Writes Threads Better.

1.) The top three parts of the film were all Ian Flemming's work. In between the unessesary and over-elaborate of the last decade of Bond Movies, this one has a great plot. The casino game, the chase, the torture, etc.

2.) I understand that in "todays" world, most people come to see James Bond as some super hero. They expect action, guns, explosions, and more action. I'm not saying that all action should be eliminated - just the unessesary stuff. Like the chase on the construction site! It served no purpose, and only stood to feed the action junkies in the audience. This movie was a LEAP in the right direction to the personification of Bond. Make him a person again - make him love, bleed, feel pain and betrayal. Connery was no super hero, and neither was Flemming's Bond, so why did it change so much?

3.) Craig is a very good James Bond as far as his acting skill, and just the way he carries himself. But, it will be up to the scripts to determine if he makes it into greatness. A lot of people equate his actions in the movie to whether or not he is a good Bond. What they fail to see is that the WRITERS made him brutal, and witty. He has definetely got some potential.

On a closing note, this was one of my favorite James Bond movie from the casino onwards. Was I the only one to notice that everything prior to that didn't serve the plot in hardly any way?

    TOP 3
-- Madagascar chase, the stunts of which immediately place it in the top five chase scenes the series has ever seen.
-- The, ahem, "ballsy" one-liner, in many ways one of the best ever. Has there ever been an "F You" moment like that in a Bond film?
-- The last line and closing credits -- he may look different, but he's still an old friend.

    IMPROVE/CHANGE
    -- The titles -- yuck!
    -- Eve Green's accent.
-- Film could have been 20-25 minutes shorter -- did we need the shower or defibrillator scenes?

    CRAIG
-- Never has one actor so dominated a Bond film. He's brilliant.
    Hilly...you old devil!

1.The pre-title sequence was great. The poker game and events surrounding it made the film! The very end, when Craig says "The Names Bond...James Bond" is magic.

2.The love story is a little rushed. I wish there would have been less time with the action in the beginning and more time with the stuff from the book.

3.All I can say is, DANIEL CRAIG IS THE BEST BOND EVER!!!

    Top parts.

The begining scene, the airport chase, the ending.

    Improve or change.

Would have used Caterina Murino as the main Bond girl,Wasn't that impressed with Eva Green.

The heart attck scene could go,as well as the torture scene.

Does Craig get vote,Yes so far he is very good,I would rank him 2nd best Bond ever.To out do Connery will take some work.

The writer's have alot to work with now, hopefully from now on out the lame Bond films will end for awhile.Graig and Dench both were good, and the way it ended it leaves a great spot to start the next one.

    1. What were your top three parts of the film?

The chase sequence in Madagascar, Bond about to die and Vesper Lynd reviving him, and the torture scene.

    2. Would you improve/change anything?

I would bring back women in the beginning intro sequences. I haven't decided if I would bring back the traditional opening gunbarrel sequence.

    3. Does Daniel Craig get your vote of the "00" status?

Definitely. He did a great job.

    1) Hard to pinpoint a specific scene. Perhaps the carnage at the embassy and Bond's resolution of it.

    2) I found the climactic actyion sequence somewhat uninvolving a) because there was no urgency in rescuing Vesper; and b) because the bad guys were practically faceless heavies

    3) Craig is Bond, but he is his own Bond. He threw away the rule book, disregarded the last 44 years of movies and made the portrayal his own. While every other actor has competed with his predecessors (and, in reruns and on DVD, his successors) as to who is the most suave, the most fun, the most serious, Craig has simply taken the role and done it his way and to hell with everyone else. And it is damn exciting to watch.

    1. The PTS was great...I loved the way that the 'tech' played a supporting role unlike DAD. The fact the Craig got cut, bruised etc, and still had the nicks and scratches in the next scene was a refreshing treat.

    2. The titles were very retro, but I'd have liked to have seen it more true to the old school.

Daniel Craig has just topped my list...never thought I'd replace Sean...but I think this is my favorite film so far. Well Done Daniel!

    Top 3 - PTS,B&W was a nice touch
    Poker game
    Torcher scene, true to Flemings

Change/improve - get rid of Judi Dench, the scene in M's home, the construction chase, it was 20 min. to long, the title song sucked, the title were bad, traditional gun barrel scene was needed.

Craig as Bond - Jury is still out. He's better than Roger, and Brosnan, but not the others. Certainly has promise, he can handle the fights and the kills for sure.

Fiona Volpe: Some men just don't like to be driven.

Bond: No, some men don't like to be taken for a ride

    Top 3
    1. When Bond is investigating Dimitrios and they alert M that he's logged in under her name and password and M says: "How the hell does he know these things?"
    2. The whole dinner jackets exchange is done beautifully.
    3. The line: Mr. White? We need to talk. The names Bond. James Bond. Coolest ending to anything ever.

    What I would change
I think the movie is pretty much perfect but I would've liked to have spent a bit more time with Solange becuase beyond being gorgeous Caterina really excelled in the acting part of the role. Of course that just speaks to my feeling on Caterina really, and not the quality of the film so pretty much I think it was perfect as it was.

    Does DC get my vote?
Oh my god yes. I remember being in a depression for a few days once I found out he was cast, and Im sure if you looked back in my post history I had some less than pleasant things to say about him at the time but honestly he is my favorite Bond ever. Every facet of his performance was brilliant and he's only added to the admiration I already had for his acting. To be honest I can't imagine anyone, not even Sean holding a candle to him. God bless him for finally putting the man Fleming created on screen.

    1. What were your top three parts of the film?
This is really hard because there were so many great parts in the film, but if I had to choose three:
    1. Pretitle Sequence
    2. Torture Scene
    3. End line

    2. Would you improve/ change anything?
Nothing really bothered me too much, but it was a little long.

    3. Does Daniel Craig get your vote of the "00" status? Oh yeah. One of the greatest Bond performances of all time imo.
  • james07james07 Posts: 1MI6 Agent
    1) chase in madagascar
    2) bond being tortured and just before that.
    3) from the start to the end of the poker game.
i think this bond was not as good as i thought it would be the main reason why is because there was more than 1 bad guy and no special gadgets and i think they are the two key features about bond.
for example bond controlling the car with his phone in goldeneye things like that make bond what it is.:(
  • jhermanjherman Posts: 59MI6 Agent
One of the best thing is the lack of fancy gagets, just good old fashion acting and action.Remind me alot of the Connery flims, were they basic and simple filled with Connerys acting.

I would have liked them to show alittle more of Bonds background, what he did before he became a OO.

did we need the shower or defibrillator scenes?
What?! The shower scene was one of the stand-out moments; a truly poignant and moving piece of cinema. At the time I could hardly believe that was happening in a Bond movie.
    CRAIG
-- Never has one actor so dominated a Bond film. He's brilliant.
    Agreed with that wholeheatedly. :)

The one thing I'd change is the Branson thing. As it lasts about a second, however, this could hardly be described as a 'major flaw'.
  • PredatorPredator Posts: 790Chief of Staff
    This is actually very difficult:

    1. What were your top three parts of the film?

    Madagscar "aerial" chase
    Final scene
    Shower scene
(although I could add another load tomorrow depending on my recollection)

    2. Would you improve/ change anything?
The defib scene was a little DAD-ridiculous

    3. Does Daniel Craig get your vote of the "00" status?
Yes - although he will need another strong showing to bed in fully. The signs look good though.

Interestingly, my wife didn't even notice. I think the scene is OK - a little PP easter egg. ;)

Actually I forgot another flaw ... take out all the blasted Vaio laptops and Sony Erikson phones already!! We know you own the company, stop rubbing it in!

In my review of "Casino Royale," I said that if the movie had begun wih the train snaking through the valley in Montenegro, I would have been happy. However, I did enjoy the action sequences and they did set up the card game very well. Sure, M could have set up the game verbally, much as it's done in the novel, but those action pieces were so much fun, what the hell. Besides, CR was so good I wanted more, not less. I think they should have lengthened the poker game. Have Bond and LeChiffre play best two out of three, double-or-nothing; moved on to arm-wrestling or Yatzee :))

    1. Pre-titles / title sequence. This is one of the most original works (title sequence) I've seen in a film in ages. Most of Kleinman's works were derivates of Binder. Here, though, he truly shines as an innovative and orignal designer.

1b. The Rebel / Shower scene. To me, this was the most powerful fight and also the most powerful character scene. Bond shows he can kill, but also can be human. Major props to both Eva Green's and Daniel Craig's acting in this scene. I get chills every time I watch it.

1c. The Torture Scene. Very self explanatory. This scene will be Craig's defining moment.

1d (extreme close runner-up). Vesper's final scene. The look she gives Bond had me in tears at the end. The most beautifully acted scene in the movie by Eva Green.

    2. I have seen this movie twice in two days and can find only one flaw: Cutting from Bond to Mr. White walking away with the briefcase. I wanted more time on Daniel Craig, as with Lazenby in OHMSS.

    3. Daniel Craig brings a physicality to the role (IMHO) unseen since the conception of "Movie Bond". This is a man that is actually capable of killing without any remorse. This is a man I would be terrified of being on his bad side. He deserves everything involved with a "00".
  • VampiressRNVampiressRN CaliforniaPosts: 203MI6 Agent
    1. As always, the title sequence gives me chills and I liked the departure from the standard, a great match for a decent song. Secondly, the intro chase had me on the edge of my seat. Last but not least...the locations and sets were superb.

    2. I may have missed it, but did the words "Bond will return" ever flash across the end of the credits?...I always liked seeing that. It gives me security in knowing the genre will continue. If I missed it, then I wouldn't change anything. I like the artistry of the film makers to show through and I think everyone did a great job.

    3. Daniel Craig did an excellent job. Very gritty & efficient in the killing and torture scenes, yet suave, sophisticated, and just the right amount of intrigue and arrogance in the high-profile scenes. I certainly did not think about him being short when looking at his great physique. He wore the 007 well.

Well, I think I have to agree with what everyone here has said. "The only question remains" ;) Why did they edit the scene of Bond and Vesper in the water (don't know if they did in the USA but in the English version they did)??

    1. Favourite parts for me were pre-title sequence, madagascar chase (awesome), seeing the aston's (ok I know that is 2 different scenes).

    2. I thought the part from the end of the poker game to the end could have moved along a bit quicker, but the last line was class!!

    3. I thought Craig was brilliant as Bond, could be the best since Connery.

Top Three Parts of the Film:

    1 The Chase
2 Vesper and Bond on the train
    3 The torture scene

    Improve/change:
Use the DBS properly - a better chase sequence.
That's about it on that score.

    OO Status:
Daniel Craig is the best interpretation since Connery and the nearest to Fleming - a superb job on his part.

    1) Madagascar chase scene
    2) Vespers demise - haunting
    3) The last line.

    Change ...

The DBS chase ... would have made that longer

and Daniel Craig ? Absolutely, he can hold the mantle for as long as he wants.

hi there first time poster here so hello to everyone, my top 3 parts of the film would be 1,the embassy cctv capturing bond killing the umarmed bomber, thought the media and political reaction brought a strong touch of reality and showed bond,s actions do have consequences for the same reason loved the part after he killed the 2 rebels and immediately his first instinct was to hide the bodies a refreshing change from just killing the bad guy and moving on to the next scene apparently leaving the corpse/es to be discovered by any tom dick or harry. 2,the poisoning scene again very realistic and simple why attempt to kill someone with a laser or by stranding them on an island of crocodiles when the easiest thing in the world would be to spike their drink. 3,the torture scene craig's defining moment a truly convincing portrayal of a man in great agony who still refused to buckle and you got the impression that here was a man who was prepared to pay the ultimate price rather than give in to his own suffering.2,can't think of anything i would have changed to me was the best bond film since license to kill and a welcome change of direction.3, daniel craig is james bond too early to say the best ever but with a couple more performances like this he could take that mantle.

A little aside to my Casino Royale experience. I got to the theater about an hour early so since it was the first showing, I had the choice of any seat in the place. I had to do some reading and voice mails, so kept myself busy. A couple of times something caught my eye on the floor to my right, but paid no mind to it. Then I was looking in that general direction and to my horror saw a mouse scamper quickly by. All I could think of was why didn't I wear my tennis shoes!!! There I was in a dimly lit theater, in sandles, my bare toes flailing in the wind, with rodents attending a smorgasbord of dropped popcorn and such. I curled my toes up in fright and stayed glued to my seat. The mouse (or probably several mice) scampered by several more times and I had a heart attack every time. Had I not wanted to see the movie so much, I would have left. It was a very nice theater too, but it is turning winter and there is food to be had on the theater floor....mice are opportunists. I kept my toes curled up throughout the movie, which was unnerving to say the least. :(|)

My 3rd favorite part has to be the torturing scene, and Bond's hilarious lines. :))

My 2nd favorite part is the opening scene and credits, the gunbarrel was very well done.

My favorite scene is when Bond shoots White and says the famous line we all were waiting for "The name's Bond James Bond.

I would add on to the car chase, it lasted about 15 seconds :#

Daniel Craig is defintitely James Bond, and my second favorite, following Sean Connery.

My favourite three parts of the film?

    1. The pre-title sequence. The sheer brutality of the fight scene takes the breath away.

    2. The torture scene. If handled badly it could have been a potential disaster. Instead, it's a triumph for Martin Campbell, Mads Mikkelsen and especially Daniel Craig. The lighting and camera angles, the dialogue and humour are perfect. Craig is superb in this scene, especially when Bond is trying to laugh despite the intense pain he is feeling.

    3. The MIA sequence. Visually very exciting to watch, it took my breath away at times. I never felt that any of it was OTT. Improbable, definitely. Impossible, no.

    Would you improve/change anything?

I would delete the defibrilator scene. Fewer machine guns, I am getting bored with them. More screen time for Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Caterina Murino as Solange. A more conclusive ending to the film. Finally, if it were possible, I would have as little product placement as possible.

Does Daniel Craig get my vote for 00 status?

He most certainly does get my vote. In terms of acting, Craig has all of Bond's attributes except maybe the suaveness. The screen presence, the toughness, the grit, the charm and the humour are all there in abundance. In terms of looks, Craig remains an enigma to me. At times he appears seriously cool, at others he looks uncool. I think he's a chameleon.
