Craig haters?

I am just wondering if anyone who hated Craig before they saw the movie, now likes him because they thought the movie kicked ass.

By the way, I always had faith in Craig.

Judging by the post I've been reading on this site and other Bond forums I'd say it's safe to say he's got a universal thumbs up

Personally I was open minded about his selection and thought it was an interesting choice.

In my eyes his Bond is the most 'real'

Faultless perfromance - cant wait to see the film again

Personally I had my probs with him from the get-go. Having now seen him I will happily eat humble pie. He's the best since Connery.

My wife wasn't a Craig hater, but she had never seen anything he was in or heard of him before, and just seeing pictures of him she didn't really think he looked like Bond. She basically doesn't like Bond films, but she humors me by going to them when they come out. Her favorite kind of Bond was of the Moore and Brosnan ilk, the handsome, humorous, playpoy type who doesn't break a sweat, and she didn't like Dalton at all (blaspheme!). So after seeing CR, with the more uncompromising portrayal from Craig, I thought that she'd hate it even more than the other ones I've "forced" her to go to, but she loved it. She said it was the first good Bond movie she'd ever seen, and about Craig, her comment was "that's what sexy is." She wasn't anti-Craig prior to CR, but she was ambivalent about Bond, and Craig not only convinced her he was Bond, but that he was easily the best one to play the part. She's actually looking forward to the next one.

For my own opinion, I'll just say that it was so nice to come out of a Bond movie and to not be disappointed. For me, that was the first time I could say that since 1989. CR wasn't perfect, but it was easily the best Bond I've seen in the theater (I've been to them all since 1983). The reboot was a brilliant idea, the perfect way to get rid of the gadgets and the spectacle and to just go back to the tone of FRWL and just make a great story come to life. Keep it simple, stupid. There' a lot to be said for following that little rule.

One more thing was refreshing in CR, and that was that they didn't have to force things, like going through the usual Bond checklist, you know the "shaken not stirred" line and that kind of thing just to remind you that this guy is cool because he's Bond. The character of Bond is cool only if the actor portraying him is that way, just as if an actor isn't funny then Bond isn't funny or intimidating or sexy or whatever your idea of what Bond should be. I loved Dalton's portrayal of Bond, but he wasn't cool or particularily charismatic in the role, and with Pierce, they had to constantly go through the pomp and circumstance of Bond, almost as if to try to make him Bond through osmosis ("he's saying all the right things, he's trying to be tough, he's trying to be cool, therefore he must be all these things."). With Craig, they didn't have to do that. They let him be who he is (thank you again, reboot!), and he kicked ass and made Bond cool again for the first time since the heyday of Connery, just by being who he is, and not by us being told he was that way.

It's not for anyone to feel "stupid". Everyone has an opinion. Opinions can change, but not always.

I was fairly neutral and was impressed, but he needs another film to be Bond IMHO.

Mrs Predator was less convinced, but she absolutely loved the film itself (and thought Craig very good, but not typically Bond).

I've been very open about the fact I blew a gasket when Craig was cast, and I even swore that I'd boycott the film. I even joined in on some of the initial Craig-bashing, but it grew so ugly and fanatical I wanted no part of it and I soon began to take the side of the underdog Craig. Then came the casting of the supporting characters--then information about the locations and the script--then clips and interviews. . .and I felt a return of the old enthusiasm for a new Bond film. By the start of November I was excited and revved up, and I was overjoyed to find a Bond film that met my expectations and that Craig more than exceeded them. So I have seen the light--Praise Fleming, and halleluiah!

Now there's a part of me that wonders what's to become of that awful web site that exists only to bash Craig and to urge a boycott of CR. It's failed on both fronts, so will it stay or will it vanish into the ether? Personally, I hope it stays. In eighteenth century London, a popular pastime was to go to the Bedlam insane asylum to laugh at the "loonies" as they shrieked, danced, howled, and babbled away in their rage and madness. Thanks to DCINB, I can understand the appeal.

As someone who joined AJB out of fascination over the Great Craig Debate, I have to say that the overwhelming number of the people I've encountered on AJB who questioned the casting/reboot have been passionate but respectful about it. So I don't think any pie-eating is necessary. Craig has been quoted as saying that the storm of criticism just made him work harder, and I'm sure the rest of the cast and crew had the same reaction. After all, killing off the most successful franchise in film history (don't talk to me about Star Wars) doesn't look very good on a resume. If anything, we probably need to keep it up and turn the spotlight on Bond 22 to make sure Eon doesn't become complacent. Sure, they did a nice job on CR, but what have they done for us lately ?

Someone must have made a few pennies out of that google adsense revenue. They had over a million hits in a few months when they launched. Not sure what the 'Casino Royale boycott' site is going to do now that the film has come out.

I'm going to see Casino Royale tonight. I'll be interested to see what the Craigosceptics (or darkside) think of this film (should they choose to see it). People like Dan Same, Superado and Tony who (like myself) have criticised the casting.

I'm just glad that the hopes I had for what they would do with Craig, which I've stubbornly maintained for the past thirteen months, have been rewarded---and 99.9% fulfilled.

That said, I fully expect the most virulent of the detractors---such as the departed Eye of the Tiger, who had truly become the most tragic figure on this site :)) ---will still hate Craigger (if they see the movie at all), because it has become wired into their DNA.

Nothing can be done about that; you can't force anyone to have a good time B-) Let them continue to look backward---I'm moving forward, and having a blast :007)

Only one question remains, Hardy. Will you raise the Union Jack back up to full mast? :D

I was indifferent to Daniel Craig, but not anti. I was more anti Babs & Mickey for dispensing with Pierce Brosnan and re-booting the franchise.

I knew Craig was a good actor, but I just couldn't see him as Bond. I saw him more as a Bond villain. However, my expectations of him as Bond were raised slightly when I saw all those interviews he gave on set in the Bahamas followed by the release of the teaser trailer. When the full trailer was released my expectations were further raised to the point where I had real hope for the first time. And now that I have seen Casino Royale I too have seen the light.

You'll know what I think in less than three weeks. I won't be seeing CR until 9/12 (it's being released in Australia on 7/12). :'(

Looking at any of the reviews, it seems not. I've seen a few saying the film is so-so, but they still say how good he is; and that's as negative as it gets.

Perhaps, :v but it's hard for me to imagine :007)

Most of the more tepid reviews have gone the other way---liking Craig's performance, but criticizing elements of the film itself---pacing, departure from the Precious Classic Formula, etc.

From my review, excerpt below. I would never have labelled myself a Craig-Hater, like MooreNotLess, I was an anti-ditching Brosnan, and Craig would not have been my choice as a replacement :-

"Let's get the obvious out of the way, a compelling performance from Daniel Craig. He showed the toughness and physicality that everybody, without exception, believed he would bring to the role. He also looked comfortable, and showed promise in terms of the expected quips and snappy dialogue. If I'm honest, despite him being in no way my choice as Bond, he has done no wrong here. He's done an exceptional job with the material and baggage he's been given to work with.

However, I still have to maintain that I saw nothing in the story or tone, that, with a few tweaks, couldn't have given Brosnan a fitting swansong.

One of the other criticisms leading up to the film and reboot, has been the inclusion of Judi Dench. In viewing this film, I am convinced that the producers would have been mad to let her go, inconsistencies aside. Her 'M' character is too good to waste, and the class with which Judi Dench delivers the role, with this new 'raw' Bond was a highlight for me."

Thanks, Loeffelholz. At least I have blown the myth that all Roger Moore Bond fans will dislike Daniel Craig and Casino Royale.

Yes, I am a big fan of Roger as Bond and I really do enjoy all of his films. And no, I don't enjoy the silly bits. All I ask is that people judge Roger and his films as a whole rather than concentrate on those silly bits which probably amount to less than 5 per cent.

I am also a big Bond fan. I am not blinded by Roger's acting or the tone of his films. I can easily appreciate the qualities of all the other Bond actors and the tone of their respective films. For me, one of the series greatest strengths has been the contrast between the actors and the films they appeared in.
