Sorry JennyFlexFan. I must offend you.

Alison Doody's career is best defined as 15 minutes of fame. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the only real success she has had, but it was only that 15 minutes; Doody was instantly forgotten and disappeared for a decade after 1994. Doody has resurfaced on television in the past couple of years, but she is about as important today as the Macarena. And she wasn't even very good in Last Crusade.

Not even that good??? NOT EVEN THAT GOOD??? Alison's iciness was perfect for Elsa! There are few people that could pull off that Nazi ensemble as well as she could. The fact that she was a lover to both Jones's and symbolically stabbed them both in the heart just hammered in the fact that she was quite a piece of work. Also, in the end, her greed and self-centeredness ended up being her undoing as she picked the wrong grail to trick her partner in crime so she could keep it all for herself. So motivated was she that she fell into the neverending chasm trying to grasp it.

Many of her other movies are sadly not as readily available as I'd wish, but she starred in Taffin with Pierce Brosnan, and she was a starring role in that movie. It would be interesting to see how she did with that part! And taity is right, part of the reason she disappeared was she wanted to spend more time with her family, which, while great, was probably not as wise to do when her career was taking off (she turned down a LOT of film roles, the LOTR one just being the main one). It's not that she was forgotten, it's just she took time off. By any means, do I think she'll make a major comeback in Hollywood? Probably not. But recently, since her divorce, she seems to be getting back into acting (her husband was a billionaire so she probably didn't feel the need, plus she was raising her kids) but I think, slowly but surely, she will come back to the screens. One can only hope.

There are lots of things I disliked about Last Crusade. The cast was the weakest; Doody was not as memorable as Allen and Capshaw, the villains were bland, Connery was too silly and seemed like a character right out of a Three Stooges short, and Denholm Elliot and John Rhyse Davies were only used for laughs.

It also did too much borrowing from other films. The actions scenes either copy what was done better in Raiders, or what had already been done in the Bond series; boat chase in Venice, anyone?

    The overall production seemed cheaper.

It was a dull film that lacked the excitement of the first two.

When an actor takes time off for a decade, it doesn't matter what reason, people tend to forget them. That is until they show up on one of those "where are they now" shows on VH1.

I loved Connery. I thought his performance was terrific and, for me, the film became vastly more entertaining in the second half, which featured Connery, that it was in the first half.
