Casting Call Out for Bond Girl in Italy

AlessandraAlessandra Lake Garda, ItalyPosts: 633MI6 Agent
Hello darlings, long time no talk here.. and I have news to share with you gentlemen and ladies, so you can chit-chat away.

A casting calll has been put out in Italy for the Bond girl for Bond 22. This has been reported by the main news agencies and news services in Italy. Agencies include Ansa (country's biggest new agency) and AGI (no.2 news agency in the country). It was even reported on Televideo, the RAI (Italian state TV, like the BBC in England) electronic news service.

The casting call said they are looking for a mediterranean looking, preferably Italian, girl to be the Bond girl for the new movie. They specified the girl must be fluent in English.(Knowing my country, this is the most difficult part to achieve!!).

I know there was a quote from Craig somewhere about this, but I can't find it and I don't want to say one thing for another.. and since it isn't brought up in the news, I cannot be precise. I only remember he said something like he endorsed the idea of having a mediterranean girl for the new movie, or something like that. Sorry if I cannot be more specific, this is all there was.

Now based on the above, I can tell you that the solution to me is to dub the girl. :)) Otherwise no way to find an Italian actress who is gorgeous enough and is also fluent in English. Well after all they did dub Ursula Andress, one of the best Bond girls ever to me, and it worked out just fine, so why not doing it again, in the name of a classic Bond girl beauty in the new film? :D

This, for research purposes only, is my idea of who they should cast if they had the girl dubbed. If no dubbing, forget it. No way this girl can speak English decently, she hardly speaks Italian decently, pretty much like Bellucci :))

Her name is Elisabetta Canalis:

canalismaxim.jpg

Now guys it's up to you. Pick, speculate, ask. I had proposed Giovanna Mezzogiorno for Vesper Lynd and clearly, being fit for that role, she doesn't look very Mediterranean. She is a very good actress and has a big Hollywood movie coming up.. she is fluent in English. But again, doesn't look Mediterranean at all, while Canalis above... :D

Canalis is (Italian striker) Christian Vieri's former girlfriend.. and also Didier Drogba's former girlfriend... will she also be Bond's girlfriend? :D

So hero or villain? A villainess in the mold of Luciana Paluzzi would be swell. :v

    Hi Blueman! :D

They just said "the Bond girl" in the casting call, so I'm assuming they were talking about the main good girl? Well unless as usual Bond beds both the villainess and the good girl! By the way it was worded it was the main role they were talking about...

Maria Grazia Cucinotta played the villainess (Cigar Girl) recently, and poor Caterina Murino died after about five minutes on CR, so I'm guessing this time around they want an Italian girl who lasts more than that? Otherwise why bother to specify she must be fluent in English, she would barely need to talk! :))

Seriously, it sounded like this was the casting call for THE Bond girl, not one of the various girls in the movie.. so I take it you don't like Canalis? :D

She's got a great body, and would be very attractive if she didn't have that man-chin. :))

    :)) :))

I've seen her in person and even I, a VERY straight girl, turned to see who that gorgeous girl was. And when I saw her it was in Formentera, she had no makeup on, just a red t-shirt and a pair of white pants, and a ponytail. And she looked stunning.

But of course, the chin stood out. :))

Anyway whether you guys like her or not (she is just an idea, because to me she is the classic stunning Bond girl beauty), I think the interesting news here is that they put out this casting call. I guess it means there will be a definite change from Eva Green in the new movie (which I'm happy about as I didn't like her at all). The Caterina Murino type seems to be the main girl this time around.. yay for mediterranean Bond girls! :D

Chin, schmin, she's hot! And certainly dubbing was done all the time in the old Bond movies, but I think that's because the attitude was, "Who cares if she can act? She looks great!" I think that, after CR and working with established actresses like Halle Berry and Sophie Marceau, the producers are looking for someone who can handle a script. If Ms. Canalis can act, why not?

Hi Hardyboy! Glad you find the girl hot! :D Well can act is maybe overdoing it... but put it this way: she isn't worse than Monica Bellucci, so I think it'd work? :)) If Monica Bellucci is considered a decent actress, then by all means Canalis is a decent actress as well. :D Now seriously, this is very sad but other than Giovanna Mezzogiorno, I can't think of ANY Italian actress right now who is hot AND can act in English is basically an impossible task. Good luck to the producers :)) Seriously, I say dub her.

Glad you like Ms Canalis! :D Actually I've had an idea.. why don't I dub her? No problem! :))

    Welcome back, Alessandra.

Monica Bellucci can absolutely act. Actually, whenever I see her on-screen, my brain regresses back to that of a smitten teenage boy, so maybe my jugdment is more than a little biased :D

Anyway, I agree with your pick: I think Ms. Canalis is gorgeous, and I really don't mind if she is dubbed.

Hi Frostbitten and thank you for the welcome back! ;%

:)) :)) Your comment about Bellucci is hilarious, and very sweet! LOL

Oh I'm very glad you like Canalis! I think the big problem with finding a Bond girl here is that there really aren't actresses who can act in English aside from Giovanna Mezzogiorno, and she doesn't exactly have Mediterranean looks, but Vesper Lynd looks. She's good looking, she just doesn't look like the typical Italian/mediterranean beauty, while Canalis is gorgeous and very mediterranean (She's from Sardinia, like Caterina Murino).

I really think she looks like your typical beautiful Bond girl.. and hadn't I seen her in person I probably wouldn't believe it much, but she is seriously stunning.. what striked me was that with no makeup at all and a ponytail and a casual outfit, she still caught my eye. I will try and think of possible alternatives, to me she is the best pick for now. And yea unfortunately she'd have to be dubbed... but since they did it before...

I feel kind of embarassed thinking how many beautiful, talented actress who could act in English we had in the 60s, and now it's impossible to find one. Virna Lisi, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida.. they could all act in English and were beautiful women. And famous actresses. Now, only Mezzogiorno goes to Hollywood. And Raoul Bova for the men. While both Mezzogiorno and Bova are great, she is no Sophia Loren and he is no Marcello Mastroianni. Though Mezzogiorno to be fair already had an academy award nomination for her movie (the beast in the heart) last year.

Anyway, back to Bond girl business, I'll try and come up with more candidates. I guess it's also my fault, Italian cinema and TV suck so badly that I refuse to watch and I only watch foreign series and movies :))

Do I find Eva Green attractive? Not especially. Her recent photoshoot for Vanity Fair did absolutely nothing for me. That said, I do think that she looked terrific during the casino scenes. Promise you won't tell Dan and Jenny will you? :))

Apparently you must not have figured me out yet if you think that Green's appearance is the sole, definitive reason for my dislike of CR. It's actually one of my lesser gripes about the film. In all honestly, I think Green was an excellent choice to play opposite our boy Daniel Craig. Not being too attractive herself, she didn't make Old Crag-Face look bad. :v

Having high standards is a very good thing in life, especially when relationships are concerned and you're only 20 so PLEASE don't worry! If you don't have high standards at 20, you're doomed!! :)) That said, less time on AJB I guess would be recommendable if you want to have dates! :))

The photo was a looong time ago, before CR was released, before everything.. and some devious, very charming MoorenotLess fan (btw where is he??) tricked me into it! :D

HighHopes, hi!! I have been dealing with a year of basic misery, that's where I've been!:s It's hopefully better for good now. :D how are you?

You do know I agree with Tee Hee on not liking CR though.. well I very clearly expressed my views at the time after seeing it, so.. :))

Anyway I'm glad you like Canalis!

Now that I think about it.. there IS an Italian actress who can speak English and is gorgeous (and is a more than decent actress): Anna Valle. She kind of disappeared lately which is why I had forgotten her.

Her are a couple of photos.. since the closeup is black and white.. the girl has incredibly green eyes. She won Miss Italia a few years ago. And immediately went to acting school etc.

    So first one:
    annavalle5.jpg

    And second one:
    binocannav.jpg

Up to you guys. This girl wouldn't need to be dubbed... but of course Bond girl is about....men looking at her :)) (and Bond should also be about women looking at him, reason why I will never buy Daniel Craig as Bond! :))

By the way Tee Hee I agree on Eva Green. Not a big fan of hers, although she did look good in some scenes, in general I found her nothing special.. and well I didn't like the way she portrayed Vesper at all, but that's due to script more than anything else I think.

Anyway back to us.. so Valle or Canalis? I vote for Valle.. can't believe I forgot her. She is much classier than Canalis. I found photos of her in Venice that totally spell Bond :D
    Oh, please do. :D

Dan.. no I won't (post the photo)! :D But thank you for the vote of trust LOL. And yes it is indeed the same girl in the two photos. She does look very different, but it's the same girl!

A year of misery? That's troubling; I hope it isn't CR-related. If it was, I'd have to withdraw my endorsement of the film.

But there's an even more troubling issue, Alessandra. Granted, I'm old enough to be your *ahem* much older brother, but I am a little hurt to discover you may have been untruthful with me. I think that Italy is blessed with having many beautiful women ;)

Regarding the Valle vs. Canalis poll, I would vote for Ms. Canalis. Don't get me wrong, Anna Valle is very good-looking, especially in that first pic. However, Ms. Canalis is just stunning in that second, B&W photo. It doesn't matter if she has to be dubbed, or she plays her part in Italian and I have to read sub-titles. I want to see her in Bond22. (Please, Wilson & Broccoli, remember that beauty is a part of the Bond film formula :) )

You're right! Beauty is indeed part of the Bond film formula. And not only for the Bond girl! (hint hint.. :)))

I like them both, and I think they're both incredibly beautiful. Valle is much more of a classy woman, more of the Bond Girl type because of that. Canalis on the other hand could be more of the Bond girl type because of being so sexy...both work as far as I'm concerned. Valle is certainly a better actress and doesn't need to be dubbed, but hey I said it first, if we want someone who looks the part, I would rather have someone who can convey the expressions and everything else well and is dubbed rather than someone who is a great actress but doesn't look like a Bond girl.. after all she is not the main thing anyway, Bond is. (And I say this as a woman LOL).

Just saying if as per casting call they want a foreign girl, it is highly unlikely that they find one who is beautiful, unknown and can also speak English. So dub it on! :007)

I didn't think it was necessary to open a new thread for this... but it's everywhere on news agencies here today (What is it with Italy and Bond these days). Craig himself announced that he will do a fully nude scene in Bond 22! :o :o :s :s

I have been out of the loop so I have no idea whether this has been announced before or not. But now seriously. It is the Bond girl's task to appear in various states of undress it is not James Bond's task. And ESPECIALLY with Daniel Craig: please, please spare me! :'( I'm sorry I just utterly dislike this. Would've disliked it even if it was Sean or Roger or Timothy or Pierce doing it, but of all people, Craig? It's difficult as is for me, I don't need to also see him naked! (no offense to the fans meant, I just do not like him phisically!).

I'm sure it was mentioned at some point since CR but I deem it highly unlikely. I think it was mentioned in an interview somewhere in answer to a question and the press jumped at it. but I can't remember which interview it originated from.

I don't think its going to happen however. Craig has said he wants to show less "flesh" in Bond 22 so he doesn't have to bulk up as much. but then that was counteracted by Barbra Broccoli apparently.

So Really I highly doubt that there will ever be a full frontal nude scene in a Bond frilm from either sex and the amount of flesh shown in Bond 22 will probably be a similar ammount to CR.
