I love the idea of a Walther grip inspired dial. This model sold for USD 7'500 (not incl VAT) 2 months go at an Antiquorum auction.

The SPECTRE LE is somewhat different as it is a key, starring feature of the film whereas the others are merely worn. The lingering shot of the PO in Skyfall certainly showcased that model but the ATs have been barely noticeable in any of the films. Omega appear to be struggling to sell the Bond LE AT - they're everywhere. And yes, I know that model hasn't featured in any film but they are playing on the Bond connection.
I bought the SPECTRE PO. Not because I loved the film and not really because Bond wore it in the film (I think...) but the lingering shot certainly brought it to my attention and I loved the watch! I didn't buy the SPECTRE SM300. I liked the film, I liked the starring watch gadget but personally, I prefer the standard model without the lollipop hand. But haven't bought that either.
I guess my answer is that there must be, even subliminally, some influence from the product placement by Omega but it not an overriding part of my decision making. I really need to like the watch first and foremost.

It's a great bond connection what with the dial and the subtle laser engraving this watch is secretly a bond watch, the sf le has the 007 at the 7 o clock which is a tad heavy for me. The le aqua terra even though not in any film is also subtle, you have to know what your looking at to realise it's all bonds coat of arms. That watch is beautiful, and no picture I've seen does it justice. The 50th anniversary smp for me is a pure collectors piece it's so over the top bond with the gunbarrel dial etc I wouldn't be happy wearing it. But each to their own, I had a qos po sold it and bought the sf le didn't really wear that much so sold that and bought another qos po and had enough money left over in the watch kitty to buy an old smp ala Brosnan.

I've always thought the LE Aqua Terra, is a bit gaudy, with the flashy blue colour and bright yellow accents, and that's why it's not done very well. The standard Aqua Terras are much nicer.

This theme came up in a specific sale thread and I don't want to derail further.General inquiry of omega owners did your appreciation of a film influence your choice in the watch? In my case Skyfall my favorite and I loved the look of the PO. But also liked CR and Q of S ( yes I know I may be in an exclusive club) so it wouldn't have been too tough to go for a CR or Q of S PO L if I hadn't been able to get the skyfall.

    Probably

Goldeneye started my interest in the Omega SMP and eventually I got the auto version). I liked the updated 2500 version in CR but I already had one so never pulled the trigger. I loved CR as a reboot for Bond but the 45mm PO was just too big for my wrist ( I did try it). QOS came out and he wore a 42mm PO I loved and was same size as my SMP. It would give me a blue face and black face set of watches, so my next purchase followed. Next came Skyfall and a huge price hike from Omega compared to my previous watches. Did not pull the trigger at the time on the AT or PO. However over the years I then bought the AT first and then PO followed, both used closing the pricing issue somewhat. Then SPECTRE, the AT Master Co Axial for me was not an improvement on the AT (not keen on PCL's or the missing date window). Nearly bought the AT LE as it was a bit different but at the time thought if Omega does not release the SM300 then they are really missing a trick. Hey presto 1 month later they did but man what a price! I was going on a business trip and happened across one at the airport (though I nearly missed it in the display were it not for a eagle eyed sales assistant) and well it must have been fate the rest was history investment made and one SM300 on my wrist.

The films have served their purpose for Omega - for me they have introduced me to various watches variants at a time I would rather wear my spare cash than watch it do sod all in the bank. I see them all as wearable investments. To cover the full set of DC films I could wear the QOS PO on rubber and hey presto it covers CR. The AT for SPECTRE attire so all bases covered. I preferred the time when Bond was a one watch guy (Brosnan era) life was so much simpler (and cheaper) but I get that Omega is maximising on the franchise deal (I would do the same)

As some have said women watch Bond and want to be with him, and men watch Bond and want to be him or enjoy his lifestyle. The watches of Bond are a great investment I enjoy, a conversation piece with many and you can wear anytime with anything. I own other Omegas Speedy, PO Ti etc because Omega has over the years become my brand of choice.

So I guess you could say there was some influence to my collecting but not much - no really :))

    Cheers :007)

I have just returned from a 5 week trip. Due to some dodgy South American locations I left all my watches at home (I have a G -Shock for such occasions but it always brings me bad luck)

Anyhow its amazing how much I missed a watch on my wrist and more amazing how much I re-appreciate them on my return if that makes sense!!

Just off to work with my Sub back on!

I do also appreciate my watches, I've been away this weekend with a mixture of a day in the water, an evening show, and a day in a theme park so I opted for the SM300 I do love this watch
    DSC_0011.jpg
Funny how watches and bond can break the ice, on Saturday while wearing nothing but the SM300 and a pair of ob shorts a guy smiled at me and said " ooh nice watch " I thought I was being hit on until I noticed the bond le black faced smp on his wrist.

Has anyone here got or had the planet ocean titanium with blue bezel and dial? How blue is the blue? In some photos it seems very and in others not so much, I may be doing a deal on one but if it's very blue I don't think I'll bother. Thanks in advance

    Hi Chris

    You mean this one?

    IMG_2195.jpg

Well it's a polished ceramic bezel like the PO LM LE and depending on the light it can look Navy Blue or almost grey. I love the weight of the Ti (which can take a little getting used to for some its 70gms lighter than the steel) and the colour and it often gets a nice comment or two. Built to last I think it's the watch Bond should worn but never did (they just put a Ti case on a black faced PO 8500 in SF). Mine is the 42mm and I love it it my No2 keeper after the QOS PO my first love. I think it more unique that the latest version and the slight darkness of the Ti vs Steel make it look different.

I am sure you will not be disappointed and if you don't have it let me know! (May be in the market for another)

    Good luck

    Cheers :007)

That's the one Bond44, I figured the bezel would shift colour being ceramic, it's a 42mm I'm considering also, and even though I like a heavy watch the colour and weight of the titanium appeals to me. I'm just wishing now I'd never opened the email and seen this watch, I really wasn't looking for another watch but the bug has bitten. I'll pm you if I pass on this, just one thought, does the titanium mark easier than stainless steel? The watch I'm looking at is quite heavily marked.

I have no experience with Omega Ceramic Bezels, but the Rolex Submariner Ceramic Bezel Insert shifts a lot! Sometimes, it's grey in every possible grade, sometimes silver and sometimes black and I'd assume that it's similar with Omega Bezel inserts.

    Hi Chris

Well it's ceramic and Ti so supposed to be bullet proof but my bracelet has picked up some marks on occasions but certainly not as much as steel. I have a special fibre glass brush I use to rebrush the metal if I get anything serious. May use that once or twice a year at the most (rather than monthly with the steel). Ti is supposed to be harder (though I don't think Omega used the highest grade) and being able to compare the two I can say it is but honestly nothing is totally bullet proof depending on how roughly it's handled. For my military work I have other watches anyway so reduce the damage risk drastically, but when I have worn it there has been no dramas it's robust enough for me.

Good luck and if it's a steal and you find you don't like it I am sure you won't be stuck with it for too long :D

Titanium is much softer than Stainless Steel and brushing Titanium has one negative effect.

Pure Titanium is pretty shiny - almost like silver but immediately tarnishes when exposed to air (oxydation)
That's how the grey tone comes.

When you are brushing scratches away, you basically remove the top layer and with it the nice grey tone. After brushing, the grey tone won't be the same back.

There is another risk: Metal cases are cast and then forged. Titanium alloys in particular always have small bubbles inside - you'd be surprised how many titanium parts are rejected after the first grinding/polishing because the material is poreus. Brushing/polishing Titanium off bears always the risk that one of these bubbles become visible.

Polishing/brushing is highly controversial among collectors. You always take metal away and compromise the designed shape of your watch. I used to polish/brush my watches for many years, but am now leaving all my watches unharmed.

Even when they are serviced, I demand that the case and bracelet are not being touched!

Higgins all fair point the deep marks I leave to all my watches adds character but the light marks brush away fairly easiily with my little tool without impact to colour. Of course one can always pick up another bracelet the are only £1100 new.

Very informative gents, thank you {[] It is steal, basically coming from the UK police, basically as part of the proceeds of crime act police confiscate goods from criminals and move them on, often things like watches and jewellery don't have the correct papers or boxes, so are very very cheap also watches are seldom well cared for. I've been offered this watch and it's too cheap to turn down really, I don't know yet if Box and papers are present. I am going to buy it but will be selling one of my watches but I've not decided which one ?:) on a side note I am quite heavy on my watches but like a worn look, it adds character, I lightly Polish on occasion with the finest polishing paste but only on bracelets and clasps. I've never heavily polished a watch yet.

CC, I have some questions about these police sales:

Are the numbers checked with Omega's database of stolen watches (I can assure you that this exists)?

It's only me, but I'd feel not comfortable having a watch in my possession which belonged to a criminal, probably has been stolen under unknown circumstances from someone else etc.

On the other hand, if a criminal buys a watch from his criminal money and it gets seized to compensate his victims, I'd feel slightly better. But for that decision, you must know the circumstances how exactly that became property of the police?

I can assure you Higgins I had similar thoughts, the property that is sold is property of the criminals, not stolen property, items including cars, boats and even houses and flats can be seized. Obviously the police check all available databases to check if any item is reported as stolen and if it is lengths are taken by police forces to get valuables back to the rightful owner or the insurance company that has paid out for them, interestingly insurance companies also sell certain products that have been paid out for then recovered. I would never be happy wearing anything that was stolen from someone, but I have no quandary with buying a cheap item that was taken from a drug smuggler, the proceeds of which are used to subsidise the cost of policing.
