I agree about Omega churning out too many models. No model really has a chance to become established or iconic as it is generally discarded after a few years. Its a bit of a minefield looking at all the tons of diff reference models.

This, absolutely this. When Omega was first implemented into the Bond franchise it was the Blue Seamaster 300, that should never have changed. Unless it was to a different brand altogether.

To me they cheapen the entire Omega product with this endless "churning out".

I agree about the amount of models which Omega produce, this goes along with the limited editions, however perhaps they need to keep making them to pay for the product placement, after all there are some people on this forum who have brought three or four of the different models, where if he would have kept to the same watch they would have only brought the one. Nowadays it's all about sales and whilst the fans are willing to keep buying, they will keep changing.

    I honestly can't say I like it.

It just feels like a cheap (albeit ludicrously expensive) cash-in on the vintage diver style. Sort it out Omega.

I can't wait until Omega leave the Bond franchise.

I have to admit, I kind of like it and would wear one even if it was not Bond related.

It has grown on me a lot though, I didn't like it when I first saw it all shiney in the Omega shop window.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Planet Ocean supposed to be new updated version of the classic vintage Seamaster when it was introduced in 2005? It has a similar dial etc and looks like a modern version. In my opinion they got the Planet Ocean spot on and it was love at first sight for me before it was even confirmed for CR. (Much prefer it over the Brosnan Seamaster)

They've really gone back to the exact look of the original vintage Seamaster for this latest version. I don't mind it but prefer the Planet Ocean (CR & QOS. Not SF as I felt that was a bit OTT).

Anyway.. As I said earlier I just wish they would stick to one watch :# Omega obviously aren't too fussed about having a single divers watch with the level of kudos and status the Submariner carries.

100% agree that they got the PO spot on. I have the original verson on rubber as my day to day watch and still love it as much now as when I first saw it. I have been waring it for over 2 years and am yet to see another person with the same one on which I like (seen a few of the grey bezal ones and stainless strap older versions).

It would be nice if they would just stick to one but I guess they must be doing ok to not have to. :#

I like the overall look but feel the gold / bronze accents don't quite match up given the grey on the NATO strap.... If they sort a new face colourway to go with the strap, it will have a new look that's different to my CR PO / CR SM / QoS PO / SF AT, hence a great reason for a new one :)) :)) :))

Give it the "Dark Side Of The Moon" Special Edition treatment and then we are talking NICE !

Otherwise I'll be giving it a miss like the SF PO :#

Omega don't care about that...They have a new line of NATO straps and a new 300 to flog!

I wouldn't be surprised if they shove a swatch on him for the next film. They do own Omega so who knows right?

All this marketing is just really tedious. That's all we seem to get nowadays, advertising with a bit of a film thrown in..."oooh, look. This is another watch that James Bond wears, and you should buy one too".

Wait until we are captive in the cinema, and they show us half the bloody film before it has even started due to all the tie-in adverts for Vodka, video games, beer, watches etc.

    Rant over...

Agree the placements get a bit strong. But its the viscious circle of film costs / profit margins / placement etc etc

No placements, no big budget, no blockbuster.... Dont think we'll ever see an "indie" Bond, and a good thing !!!

Re Omega not caring, I personally love them as a watch, I think they put together (in most cases) nice pieces and would look for straps, bezels, markers and faces to match. Though I personally dislike the shiny trend and the gaudy Gauss look.

I also think that the post DC era may see a change, was very unlikely during it given DC is an Omega ambassador...

I was just going to say that this seems a homage to Connery's Sub with the black and red/green strap. Wonder how that thing would look with a "proper" Bond strap...

That's the correct configuration. I am not crazy about it either. The blue titanium version looks better IMHO.

    That'll do nicely :)

The Omega straps are top quality and very thick, much nicer looking than a standard nato strap. I may have to get a couple for my Sub and polish out the Omega branding.

Looks spot on to me, and how Omega need to change the SM300 for the Nato strap... Fancy one of the straps but dont want to change any of my omegas, so will see what they come up with re the rumoured Bond Nato !

If not will just have to go vintage SM and Nato

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I can't bear to swap the staps on either of my Omega's and while I am not a massive fan of Rolex, I do like the idea of a vintage.

I can't swear to it, but there's something that strikes me as odd about your 'vintage' - is it completely genuine?

It's genuine, but hardly vintage. It's a modern quartz model they made from about 1999/2000. It was discontinued a few years back.

Yes, correct. I think I bought it at the end of 2002 or very early 2003. Wish I'd bought the automatic now. There are plenty about on the used market. A great looking watch and still one of my favourites. Don't know why they discontinued this model.
I think being about 15 years old and discontinued qualifies it for vintage B-)

It is one of the best models that Omega ever made. It certainly has more of a nod to the original 1960's military Seamaster than the new blingy 300.

I like the idea that Omega have at least paid some homage to the past and have released the new 300, much like Rolex with the Submariner 114060. The 300 on the new NATO strap is a great nod to the past and the Bond watch origins, it's kind of brought it full circle. I am excited to see the watch in the film anyway. The good thing is that owners of the Planet Ocean need only throw on a NATO strap on and they are away. I certainly think the old PO is the most balanced watch between pure robustness and looks. Its great to see so much Bond watch porn anyway :p
