Here's hoping for some kind of snow chase - either with skis, snowmobiles, or snowboards. Just no ice skates (sorry, Thunderpussy :)) ).

Also, this just occurred to me, but has 007 ever been to Rome in a film? I don't believe he has. How did that happen??

I read somewhere (Thrilling Cities?) that Fleming didn't like Rome. Not sure if that has anything to do with the topic at hand or if it's even true, but in the best AJB spirit, I thought I'd throw that out there.

That's interesting - I never knew that. I own Thrilling Cities but have never read it. Well, it's probably about time Bond went there anyway!

Anyone else see some of the articles in the news that Mendes had to beg Purvis and Wade to rewrite a better script and that Logans script was so poor that Purvis & Wades script is almost a new script as its so far from Logan's. I dont see Logan getting a shot at writing 25. So glad they decided to rework it rather than put out something that doesnt live up to all our expectations. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/james-bond-24-script-troubles-3949597

That article was based on one in the Daily Mail written by Baz Bamgingboye (spelling?), who for whatever reason seems to have it for Logan. The idea that a script would be "revamped" in thirty days is ludicrous.

Be interesting to see just how much of this is true - Logan did 'pitch' his idea for Bond24 and Bond25 to Eon, which they liked...so it seems strange IF the script has been majorly altered away from the original idea...I guess the truth will out at some stage !

I'd like to see George Lucas write a script, it would turn out Quantum was
Controlled by Aliens all along ! :))
Although so close to shooting I'm sure the two lads are only "polishing "
It with a few gags or one-liners etc. :)

Story about the script changes ( old news, I know :D ) but I did think it
    Fascinating to read that Daniel Radcliffe would love to be a Bond villain. -{
Could be an interesting choice. :D

According to an article in Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, there were plans to film major scenes on the Svalbard (Spitzbergen) islands. But after the Purvis/Wade rewrites the scenes will probably shift to the Austrian alps. Their source is Jason Roberts, an Australian who lives on Spitzbergen and workes to facilitate film production there. He worked on the Svalbard scenes in "The Golden Compass", a film starring Daniel Craig. Jason Roberts and others working in Norwegian film production are still working on getting Bond to the islands. We don't really know if the script was changed because Norway was to expensive or the location changed because the story changed.

Svalbard is a group of islands far North of the Artic circle. After the 1st WW the territory has ben Norwegian, but several other nations have rights there. As result there is a permament Russian settlement on Spitzbergen. The landscape is stunning and different from mainland Norway. Polar bears live there. The kindergardens and schools have polar bear fences and you have to bring high-power guns if you move outside the major populated areas. As far as I know The Golden Compass is the only major movie to feature Svalbard/Spitzbergen, while the Austrian alps have been used several times. I shame if they end up showing a location hat has already been seen in Bond movies instead of something completely new.

Thanks for the informative post. Sounds like an ideal location for an outdoor action scene and your photo reveals as a pictorial place.

Well, not really. It's done all the time. Depends on the writer, on the script and on the size of the rewrite.

It would be interesting to read the drafts and follow the progression. I have a number of Bond scripts, including the Maibaum scripts, but the newer ones are impossible to obtain.

Sure, scripts get "tweaked." Dialogue gets "sweetened." This can be done in thirty days. In fact, it often happens on-set, although that's usually a bad idea (see QOS).

But "revamping" means something else. It means reconstructing. http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/revamp

You don't reconstruct any script in thirty days, let alone a Bond script.
  • Richard--WRichard--W USAPosts: 200MI6 Agent
    I know what "revamping" means.

How much experience do you have with script writers and script writing?

Scripts are routinely written and rewritten and revamped in thirty days. Sometimes less. Richard Matheson, one of the most successful and acclaimed and highly-sought after screenwriters of all time, famously wrote the scripts for the Poe films for producer / director Roger Corman in two weeks. Those films hold up well today. Jimmy Sangster famously wrote scripts for Hammer films within 30 days. Read his book Do You Want It Good Or On Tuesday? Many independent films and movies-of-the-week are written quickly, and sometimes, so are major Hollywood productions. To watch Casino Royale, and going by the quality of the writing, you'd think it was a first draft written in a weekend. If it took any longer than that maybe writing isn't where their real talent lies.

I would't think that. I think it's a fine script. Not perfect by any means, but certainly one of the better Bond scripts. And yes, I have done a bit of writing myself, mostly short stories and plays. I'm by no means a professional, as you apparently are, but I'd like to think I'm capable of recognizing good writing. Obviously all of this is merely opinion, and my opinion about the quality of the Casino Royale script is certainly no more valid than yours. And vice versa, of course.

"No Problem!" Although most of my scripts feature a young
Student who can't pay her landlord, who's arrived for the rent !
How ever will she have to pay him ? :))
( sometimes the landlord is a plumber or Electrician ;) )

Hey!!! Have you been stealing my ideas? I've written some virtually identical scripts, except in mine the young student has no money to pay her cable TV bill and the cable guy has to come up with an "alternative" method of payment! :))
