    I don't care for Smith's work or his annoying voice. He probably ripped off another artist's song to make this anyway. #Buzzkill

    I find the entire song rather forgettable. I'd put it with Cheryl Crowes "Tomorrow Never Dies" in the sin bin

    Dealt with. Lets move on to the next one..

    It's only a few minutes at the start of the film. Hopefully the amazing titles
    will be a distraction, and it will soon pass. -{

    To get this thread somewhat back on topic, I just listened to the duo behind James Bond Radio. Latest podcast again says those who hate TWOTW hate it because it's different. I've already addressed the fallacy of this argument. I'm not really a fan of their podcasts. I find I can't finish their episodes even when it's on a subject I'm interested in. Too long and dull.

    As for the argument that the song reaching number 1 on the British charts means something, didn't Smith take the position from Justin Beiber? More evidence British teens have no taste in music.

    I think that the vulnerability of the male (Bond?) perspective, as depicted in the lyrics, is definitely a factor in the negative reaction of some die-hard Bond fans. Usually it's a female acknowledging Bond's...whatever: skill, dangerous nature, etc.

    Having Bond asking: "How can I live? How can I breathe?" is jarring.

    And then of course will come the complaining about the melody, the lyrics themselves, or what have you, which largely come down to taste, and which (in my experience) will evolve over time. I spent some time last night (while getting my blood pressure back under control) going through AJB's archives and looking at reactions to Chris Cornell's and Jack White/Alicia Keys' respective Bond themes, and wow! was there a lot of disdain. Some of these people now enjoy those tunes.

    EDIT: Had no idea Bieber was still recording.

    I can listen to TWOTW, but not the version sung by Sam Smith. His frankly amateurish falsetto combined with his atrocious diction is painful to my ears. Maybe Smith the singer is trying to hide the possibility that Smith the writer was overly "influenced" by "Earth Song" in those passages.

    Has my opinion about a Bond theme changed over the years? Not to that great an extent. While my tastes have changed over the years I don't love a theme I once hated, or hate something I loved on first listen. I may become bored with the song over time, however. Here's the criteria I'll use: Will the song be on my personal Best of Bond playlist? The answer with regard to TWOTW is an unequivocal "No."

    I know that my tastes have certainly evolved over my 53 years of life...and as I've said elsewhere, I don't hate any Bond theme song---even on first listen, if I don't 'get' it. Apparently my wiring simply doesn't allow it. My initial response to WOTW was a sense of being startled by it, but I quite enjoy it a week later. Perhaps not in the upper 50% of my favorite Bond tunes---but I experience no pain, nausea, hives, swelling, bursting capillaries nor visions of the Prince of Darkness whilst listening to it. I suppose I'm a fortunate fellow! {[]

    Posterity will ultimately place Mr. Smith and his Bond tune in its proper place overall, I've no doubt...and I'd certainly lose money betting on what any teenager might enjoy. My own sons, ages 17 and 19, were raised on my classic rock, but also love some rap (which does cause some of the above symptoms in me), so who's to say. When they were younger, we would drive around in our family van and sing along to Lulu's "The Man With The Golden Gun." :007)

    Whilst part of me wants to be adult and grown-up about this, unfortunately (possibly due to just how bad the song is), the child in me insists that I merely stamp my feet & shout "RUBBISH - PURE AND SIMPLE. END OF!!"

    Oh bloody hell...even with Bondy type flashes this turd is still not polished! :(
    I don't care how may Sam Smith fans have got this to a number 1 or to be apt a big number 2 this is NOT BOND! :#

    Make whatever you want out of it - the song is growing on me....

    But the falsetto is still awful and ruins a good song!

    I liked the song when I first heard it, and I still like it now. There are just 3 problems for me - the earth song melody, sam's voice not being suited for bond, and the lyrics not being suited for bond. But as a song in it's own right, I still like it. And it is ten times better than AWTD could ever hope to be.

    My feelings on TWOTW are pretty clear and unchanged regrettably however I'm just hoping Ms Goulding's "Spy" if it is indeed part of the OST & perhaps the end titles track? will be another "Surrender" which the majority of us love? as that was pretty much a modern take on Thunderball which was and indeed is a classic -{
