Is waiting for Spectre different than waiting for the other Bond films

I became a Bond fan in 2013. So, Spectre is the first official Bond film that I'm waiting for, and am going to see in the theaters. There's a lot of (reasoned) hype for Spectre.

What was it like waiting for Casino Royale? Quantum of Solace? Skyfall?

And what was it like waiting for Bond films before the internet even existed, compared to waiting for Spectre today?

In a way, I'm spoiled. I got to watch all 23 Bond films without waiting for them. Whereas, some of you, had Bond slowly accompany your lives. You Only Live Twice when you got your first car. Live and Let Die a week after your marriage. The Spy Who Loved Me with your first child. Etc.

I figure that since we are in a social media age, we are bombarded with more advertisements and therefore it makes the hype bigger, but I could be totally off the mark.

    You're a lucky chap! :D

Waiting 6 years from 1989 to 1995 was tough but you just accepted it after a while.

For me, In terms of anticipation and excitement waiting for Spectre is as hard as waiting for any of the past. However, with so much coverage via the internet and social media etc. it does help to see the pics from set. Almost like a daily fix! :)) Time goes quicker the older you get though, for example, I can't believe it's almost three months since the press conference!

I really hope they make Bond 25 almost back to back for a 2017 release (can't see it being 2016). Waiting another three years would not be fun given the premise of this film.

Yeah, exactly. 3 years to a 50 year old is much less significant than 3 years to a 20 year old.

Human memory goes by novel experiences. When someone is age 15-25, they experience lots of new things, so they have lots of new memories. From then on, people tend to get into a routine: work, family, kids, hobbies, niche, etc. and everything sort of overlaps.

It's no different than waiting for past Bond films. The most exciting waits are probably when a new Bond is announced. Some people are exciting because Idris Elba will be playing James Bond (yes, I've heard someone say this). This time seems to be a smaller deal than other Bond films, simply because when I mention anything about a new Bond film people say things like:

"They're making another Bond film? I thought the series was over."

Or "Who is playing James Bond? Is it the same guy as the last one or is Idris Elba playing James Bond now?"

I've heard both of these from multiple people. The general public is very unaware of the Bond series it seems. To be honest, the last few Bond films have gotten me less excited about new Bond films. Daniel Craig's Bond films aren't really James Bond to me.

I am as excited about the upcoming Bond film as I have been about most of them, going back to 1964 when Goldfinger was first released. GF was the first Bond film I saw in theaters, and I caught up with DN amd FRWL a couple of years later as a double feature. The big difference now is how much you see and hear about the films before they hit theaters. With the internet and behind-the-scenes television programs, one is bombarded with clips, images, interviews, etc. long before the movie is released. Back in the early days (showing my age here) all we had were the previews that were shown in theaters and on television shortly before the next Bond film would hit the theaters. Seeing those previews got me so excited that I was practically bursting with anticipation of the day I could actually go and see the movie. And then at the end of the film we would see that thrilling tagline, "James Bond Will Return in........" and I couldn't wait to find out when the next adventure of 007 would appear!

This is the first film I've properly followed the build up to in such a way.

I kept up with what was happening in Skyfall and knew they were shooting in London and that Eve was apparently Moneypenny etc. but I haven't been as religious with it before as I have been with Spectre.

Have to say it's helping build the excitement.

It's a bit like Christmas. When once we would eagerly await the big day with little mention or 'appearance' of the festive season. Now, as with Bond it all seems to start months before..
