Dalton is amazing in Licence to Kill

Just finished watching this one again and it had been a little while since I had last seen it. I've always liked Dalton as Bond, however he's never been a favourite of mine out of the 6 actors. Though after watching Licence to Kill again I must say that he is brilliant in this film. I think he is good in The Living Daylights as well, however in that case the role wasn't written specifically for him and as a result of this I feel that he is not quite as effective as he is here. With the writer's tailoring LTK for him it really brings out his good qualities and even though Bond is a hard, angry bastard in this one, Dalton still portrays moments of warmth (his interactions with Q) and of sheer coolness (His scenes in the Casino). Man it would have been great to have seen him do a third!

    Yes no arguments from me {[] As far as I'm concerned Dalton
    Nailed it. He put the literary Bond on screen. -{ love his dilevery
    Of so many lines, and far from the " misty eyed" that some see, I
    see the calculating and sometimes cold eyes of a professional
    agent. A third film would have been fantastic. -{

    I just read the brief "Property of A Lady" outline and it sounds like it could have been something! Obviously it sounds like some of the elements made it into Goldeneye in one way or another, however Bond's older mentor sounds very interesting, and the Hong Kong setting would have been very cool :)) Particularly in the early 90s with Dalton.

    I just don't see it, somebody please explain how his performance in Licence to Kill is better than TLD. I haven't read all the novels , but I'm sure Bond isn't angry throughout the novels. In TLD he was Bond and in LTK he was trying to play Bond.

    He was angry when Saunders died.

    But LTK had some of his best Lines and Scenes. Just my Opinion of course :) -{

    As much as I love Roger Moore it was when Dalton took over the reins that Bond became believable again. To me Dalton's performance in LTK is awesome and it's one of the main reasons I rate the film so highly. He is out for revenge and I totally believe it. But he could do subtle as well - as seen after Felix and Della's wedding when he reluctantly takes Della's garter. Yes Dalton is amazing in LTK -{

    Couldn't agree more. Though it was Connery's bond that intrigued me most as a kid, Dalton's performance in Licence to Kill was a revelation when I saw it for the first time. He was great in TLD, but his performance in LTK was the one that carried my interest in Bond into my teenage years and turned me on to the vivid complexities of the character.

    For me, what makes Timothy Dalton so good is that he plays Bond as a man, not a fantasy figure. Men could imagine themselves as Connery or Moore, whereas Dalton (and then Craig later) made him his own character, which is perhaps why he is disliked by some, for being not as easy to identify with.

    Lazenby showed hints of Bond actually becoming his own character (that end scene of OHMSS is so moving)- it's a shame that he didn't have the charisma for the role.

    Dalton tempered the Shakespeare thing in this film. I like him as Bond, but the movie is still uneven.

    Hmmm no i'd have to disagree with this one. In fact I feel the opposite. In TLD he seems more like he's trying to play Bond, whereas in LTK in seems far more at ease in the part, and his performance is more effortless and convincing.
