Baja?! I haven't got anything at Baja!!

Timecheck for Gymkata - although I'm sure we're all a minute or two out of sync

The ball Bond lands in is a rubbish idea. Norwegian special forces experimented with landing by parachute on the helicopter pad on oil rigs. That would have been something!

I think he may have contributed to some of the voice work for the helicopter attack on the oil rig later, too. Sounds like him, anyway. In Scott Tracy mode.

I also suspect he's one of the guys opening the tunnel where Bond is with a rat

Great dialogue between Bond and Blofeld

Blofeld always has such great designs for his henchmen's outfits. Blue and orange this time, with wellies.

Blofeld's oil rig is a big nothing compared to the volcano set

"We're cleaning up the world, we thought this was a suitable starting point."

Blofeld's henchmen are scratching their heads thinking what did we do to deserve this?

Bond gets clobbered by a henchman from behind a wall just the way he does at Palmyra in TB.

Blofeld's irritation with Metz contrasts well with his enjoyment of Bond's company (until he too grows "suddenly ... tiresome").

Blofeld's pretence to Metz that his goals are ultimately benevolent, rather than pecuniary, perhaps calls back comically to Savalas' 'with-a-difference' goal to retire with amnesty in OHMSS (as opposed to extortion).

Other than Whyte's penthouse the sets are underwhelming.

And I'd love to see an oil rig used again as a location, but in a tense (then spectacular fashion). And it should be big like this one:

Connery's "bitch" quip got a big laugh in the unreconstructed 70s. Compares favourably with Craig's awkward "The bitch is dead" in CR.

Tiffany Case has the distinction of being the only Bond girl referred to as "stupid twit". Not a high honour really. This scene isn't her finest hour.

I feel sorry for them. Fort Knox and the Volcano before, Atlantis and Drax’s Space Station in the future. The rig does seem a bit, platform? In comparison.

The superimposed bee sting effects on he helicopters ar naff too. ESP compared to YOLT with Nellie.

Poor special effects again with the exploding helicopters it looks like they’re burning photographs!

Tiffany starts out great and gradually becomes a disapointign character. And the oil platform action scene is disapointing.

Was there something more lavish planned for this climax? I feel there must have been, although I can't remember what.

Saltzman's Battle of Britain used the same technique on Messerschmitts.

Bond was to follow Blofeld on a balloon, then they fight on a salt mine.

Yeah, I definitely came in to watch the wrong part of the film. All of the 'good' stuff is done with, lol.

Agreed, the first half is better than the seocnd
