Holy puns, Batman, that's the best incarnation of Batgirl IMHO.

THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH - Chapter 0 - Another National Anthem - Part 4/4

Well, that’s it for this latest issue. The next one is due end of November - I can’t wait!

BTW It really is called Chapter 0 - it’s a comic thing that is usually used to give information the reader needs to know in order to continue the story or to tell a story that’s set before the original first issues.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

    Wild stuff, like it says.

Elvis and Marilyn? Now where have I seen stories about them not too long ago ....?

BTW, last night I watched "One Battle After Another" which has faint echoes of the DoT if you're looking for them.

    End of November? 😳

This just keeps on giving…thanks @CoolHandBond for sharing this 😁

@Sir Miles My pleasure to post this superb comic.

BATMAN #200 - March 1968 - The Man Who Radiated Fear - In which The Scarecrow and flashbacks feature in this landmark 200th issue.

Nice potted origin stories, I'm guessing to fill this out to a two-parter, and some classic 60s art.

  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 9,403MI6 Agent

Comics ending with the figures 00 (occasionally issues ending in 50 as well) are usually classed as a landmark issue and feature some extra special event or multitude of characters, and indeed flashbacks of origins. Curious new readers would pick up special issues such as this and flashbacks would draw them into the mythos of the character and they may become potential new fans buying every issue. Comics ending with 00 also tend to have increased value as years go by.

Again, something I never knew. Thanks CHB!

Batman returns soon in a special giant sized double edition which marks the end of the Silver Age.

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 41,942Chief of Staff

    Looking forward to that!

  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 9,403MI6 Agent

I was wondering what else to post on this thread when the conversation with Barbel gave me an idea…anniversary editions!

    ACTION COMICS #400 Part 1/2 - May 1971

To be concluded in part two…

Not that I'm an expert like you, CHB, but that story seems like the kind that could have been published 10 or 15 years earlier.

  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 9,403MI6 Agent

I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but thanks for the compliment, Barbel. The story in this issue certainly harks back to the Silver Age, instead of the early Bronze Age where this lies, but anniversary issues do tend to celebrate all things past.

If you haven't done it already, how about looking at comics where the cover promises much but the ending is a cop out? That one wasn't the worst, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

  • CoolHandBondCoolHandBond Mactan IslandPosts: 9,403MI6 Agent

I will try and write up an article on this, Barbel, it’s a good suggestion 🍸

The Batman television series had been cancelled and the editors at DC decided to steer away from the campiness that had permeated into the comics by making the stories darker and serious. This marked the end of the Silver Age and the dawn of the Bronze Age. This double header, over both Batman titles, heralded that change.

December 1969…BATMAN #217 and DETECTIVE COMICS #354 - In which Robin leaves for university and Bruce Wayne moves out of the manor.
