I can see them picking a relatively unknown guy and make him a star (what EON did, we can do it). Whoever they choose, people seem very curious to see this brand new version of Bond and what Amazon can bring to the franchise.
Of course, The Force Awakens showed us a safe bet is a guarantee of success, so I'm not saying Cavill is offside. Actually everything depends on what the future producer(s) intend to do with the series and the character.
And long touted Bond26 director German born Edward Berger has also questioned whether he would direct a Bond now stating at the Oscars that without the Broccolis he's not as interested.
Absolutely. Half the time these jackweeds haven't really even been under consideration, they just want to have people think they were and then cover their butts by saying they wouldn't do it anyway.
In fairness to Perkins, he was responding to a question asked of him.
But yeah, there's no reason at all to think he'd be under consideration. Love him or hate him, he'd be a terrible fit; he makes personal, small horror movies. He was asked because his new film stars Theo James.
But is that a huge surprise? Surely it would have been suicide for the franchise if not. The memo also says the actor could be from the Commonwealth, so all those Canadian and Kiwi actors can get excited at the thought of being a first.
It's from the Daily Mail. I will consider the nightmare scenario of 'Emily Blunt as Jane Bond' is definitely behind us when this element will be confirmed by the executives of Amazon MGM themselves, not before.
Furthermore, the last time the Mail pretended they knew something was before NTTD came out, with a so called insider from EON who told them Craig would make another Bond after this one, while Fukunaga himself said during the shooting this film would be 'the final chapter for Daniel Craig'.
Just to remind you the source is far from being trustworthy...
Yup, that was my reaction too. That it happens to align perfectly with one of their regular talking points of 'woke' makes it a bit too good (for them) to be true. I don't necessary doubt that it'll turn out to be correct, but I do doubt that they have any evidence of it, and 'James Bond will be a British man' isn't much of a scoop.
When they say 'a source said' generally that source is the Mail writer's imagination.
The author of the Puck story that broke the Amy Pascal, David Heyman as Amazon MGM Bond producers story, Matthew Belloni, hosts a podcast called The Town and on its latest edition he says Alfonso Cuaron could be the Bond26 director and they are going to go young on Bond.
At 28 minutes 45 seconds in he talks about his Bond story and says the Bond26 director could be Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron and that there have been "talks" and there is "a take," meaning Cuaron has a concept for Bond26, and the consideration of Cuaron is "serious".
Cuaron directed Heyman's films Gravity and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Cuaron also wrote and directed Children of Men so picking Cuaron would suggest that the Amazon MGM Bond movies are not going to go back to the Brosnan, Moore era.
In this article, comments made last year by Cuaron at a film festival about being offered a Bond film and why he turned it down are reported.
Belloni also says they are going to "go young" on the new Bond as "they want someone who will do it for a while".
This could be complete reboot for the reinvention plus maybe an origin story.
I think they have to go young to appeal to the youth to keep the fandom alive and lower its average age.
A new computer game, (what happened to Project 007?) and any other merchandising tie ins they can use, a la the merchandise of the 1960s, which was aimed at kids, a PG rating for the film, and a late 20s Bond who joins MI6 from SBS would be a good reinvention for me.
Sadly, this recent story doesn't bode well for Project 007.
For who could be Bond number 7, I think going young means they'll be 30, at the most, when Bond26 comes out which I am guessing is October/November 2027.
Using IMDB Advanced Name Search and searching for British or 'Commonwealth' actors born in the late 1990s, I think the following are possible candidates.
I don't think Bond should have the classic leading man looks, I think Connery and Craig's appeal was that they looked like they could be govt assassins.
When people are in their 20s, looking like a govt assassin is difficult to judge, but I felt these guys had promise. Of course, it's all in the audition.
British actor Daniel Mays claims about 20mins 40secs into this podcast, We're not getting any younger, that he has heard they are going very young with Bond and it will be set in the 1960s.
I like the use of the word 'exotic'. It fits so well with the fantasy a Bond film is supposed to bring to the audience. Does it necessarily mean they're going to make a good Bond film? No. But at least, they seem to know where they are going, which is promising.
Exhilarating is a good word too. At least, they know the ingredients to put into their movie. I may be mistaken of course, but I've the feeling with Heyman and Pascal, we'll get something entertaining. I obviously don't expect a TSWLM 2.0, but a modern spy thriller a la TLD, with all the usual tropes we love, seems pretty relevant to me.

I used to say 'if its not officially from Eon, disregard it.'
Now I say 'If its not officially from Amazon - MGM disregard it!'
Bond Havers / Whoppers / Overblown rumours appear in the tabloid press and industry gossip more than facts do about the franchise. Including release dates!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
In my opinion it's not 100% verified unless it's from Amazon/MGM. But all rumours aren't alike. If for example Variety Magazine or Empire Magazine publishes a story about Bond I take it much more seriously than something that's from for example The Sun.

A valid and logical point.
But rumours are rumours!
We are agreeing here, I just hate unverified wiffle floating about. All supposition and heresay. 🙄
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
Fair enough! 🙂 I've just seen too many threads here where no one bothers reading back and ends up breaking "news" that is three days old and has already been discussed. Not that there is anything to be done about that! It is just life on an internet forum.
For me the interesting bit is that they have been in London for the past week, at least.
I think that could mean:
Talking to EON
Talking to Pinewood Studios. Heyman will know them from his Harry Potter movies.
Talking to EON's longstanding 'family' of creatives ensuring they can work on the film.
Talking to Purvis & Wade, and perhaps other writers.
Talking to agents about potential actors for Bond auditions.
All of the above, potentially.
I'm still betting on an Oct/Nov 2027 release date. I can't see them going into production next January.
I'm guessing Director announced this summer, maybe along with scriptwriters and new Bond actor announced in Q4 with maybe a 2027 release date announced. Then 2026 will see some of the pre-production, location scouting for example, publicity we've seen before.

Looks like one movie director will not be reinventing Bond anytime soon.
More use of the F word.
And long touted Bond26 director German born Edward Berger has also questioned whether he would direct a Bond now stating at the Oscars that without the Broccolis he's not as interested.
Thank Heavens. The last thing we need is a pretentious, self-important director. Let's get somebody who actually likes James Bond.
Wow those are big statements. I also wasn't aware Berger had expressed that much interest.
Absolutely. Half the time these jackweeds haven't really even been under consideration, they just want to have people think they were and then cover their butts by saying they wouldn't do it anyway.

An alleged internal Amazon memo has been leaked to the media and Bond is staying British and male, apparently.
But is that a huge surprise? Surely it would have been suicide for the franchise if not. The memo also says the actor could be from the Commonwealth, so all those Canadian and Kiwi actors can get excited at the thought of being a first.
If true, at least it removes one from the worry list.😁

The Daily Mail? Surprised they didn't say that Amazon's Bond will be played by a shape shifting extraterrestrial.
That’s a shame. I always thought Berger would be an interesting and appropriate choice. All Quiet on the Western Front was a great piece of cinema!

Bullthwocky. I'll eat my hat on a flying pig when that happens.
That’s where I heard it…but it was April 1st 👀

Funny how I joked on MI6 about 'exotic' possibly being a typo (for 'erotic', however!). So strange.
"Exotic" was supposed to be exhillerating.
