You should explain to them that James Bond is just something you like, a lot. All my friends know I like Bond 007; tell them to just deal with the fact that you happen to like something.
Should anyone be ashamed of being a fan of something, anything not only Bond? I mean not a crazy-stalker type of a fan, but someone who appreciates something really well-made?
I think not...Btw, I gave a friend of mine Casino Royale to read, having higlighted some descriptions I like most. He said that it's really good and decide to read more books. What I've noticed is that a lot of people think they know everything about the 007-franchise, cos they've seen a couple of movies and read a couple of reviews. But there's always something more to find out=)
I think we've all been there at one point or another in our lives, Bond fandom related or not.
'Aint that the truth!
I think high school/college years must be some of the hardest you go through in terms of wanting to be accepted and to be part of 'the crowd'. You are busy learning who you are and what you want and the pressures to conform are very strong.
It is very liberating when you reach the 'dont give a stuff' stage of life but we all have to travel a weary, sometimes uncomfortable, road to get there.
It is what you enjoy and your Bond fandon will probably be around for a lot longer than some of your college buddies.
Should anyone be ashamed of being a fan of something, anything not only Bond? I mean not a crazy-stalker type of a fan, but someone who appreciates something really well-made?
That;s the point isn't it? As long as you don't allow your love of Bond (or anything else) to take over your life, then I think you have nothing to be ashamed of whatsoever.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
A similar thing happened to me when i was at school, BUT it made me take notice of James Bond more.
Apparently one day in class someone saw me blow the top of a compass like it was a gun (though to this day i swear i didnt.) For weeks people took this p*ss calling me James Bond or a James Bond wannabe or whatever. At this time i wasn't a James Bond fan at all. I had seen Thunderball when i was really young but that was it. Tomorrow Never Dies had just come out at the cinema, so i decided to find out who this Bond guy was that i was compared to everyday. Well i LOVED Tomorrow Never Dies (not as much now ive grown up i must add) so i started watching all the Bond films and became a big fan.
So Scott f*ck anyone whos teasing you about liking something. If you wanna use your brain and try and make a gunbarrel, do it. Beats standing around the streets drinking cider like come scumy chav anyday.
I used to have the p!ss taken out of me all the time for my Bond fandom.
However, over the years, its really become part of my personality, and my friends know that there is no point mocking me for it because I'm proud of it, and I'll always defend the franchise against a single bad word!
The other day, a random chav tried to persuade me that Bond wouldn't last a minute in a fight against Rockly Balboa.
He eventually had to give up )
You may think this is quite 'sad', but I felt really proud when, after taking a huge bunch of friends to see Casino Royale, most were amazed at how...cool... it was.
I've got a real geeky side and I don't try and hide it. I personally think it can be a really charming attribute to a person.
I do alright, I've got some great friends, and even (believe it or not) a girlfriend, and they appreciate my geeky side, just as much as I appreciate theirs (if you've heard of 'World of Warcraft' you'll understand!).
Don't be ashamed of your inner geek - anyone who lets it get in the way of friendship is simply shallow.
I too got teased a little at school because of my interest in all things 007 - but I wonder how many of my ex school colleagues have had their own articles published (mine in various 007 fanzines), their photographs published (again, mine have been published in 007 fanzines, as well as a book on Pinewood Studios, Desmond Llewelyn's biography and even a Royal Film Premiere brochure) and I even received a name check in Steven J Rubin's James Bond Encyclopedia.
Not bad for "Secret Sam" ;% . Anyone remember him?

dude, the only ones who shud be ashamed are the *******s who are takin the ****. if it was me id not only walk in wearing a tux, but id take out my gas powered pellet Walther p99 and shoot the *******s. at least bond should be a role model, other than f###in snoop dogg or someone like that. I'm 18 man, and i drink vodka martinis at the pub. you get funny looks but then people realise that just because bond drinks one doesnt mean that anyone else cant. also, one of my dads mates drives an aston martin vanquish and people say to him "how are you mr bond?" when he doesnt even watch any of the bond films. so no dont be ashamed, just confront them of their love for pokemon or somethin'.
Bate.......Richy Bate!!!!
A lot of people, who don't do anything but sit and watch Youtube videos are quick to critize people who make the videos. That's the price of being someone who creates instead of watching others create things for them.
I remember a friend of mine wrote a movie script and it became one of the most successful films ever. It probably made a Billion dollars by now. If I told you the name of the film, you'd know it. Some people on the internet were criticizing him and it got him a little depressed. I encouraged him by using the quote of one of the Presidents that it's not the guys sitting on the sideline, who deserve the price, but the quy in the dirt in the stadium. I forgot who said it.
Now, as long as you don't go around thinking that you are Bond or giving it too high of a priority in your life, i.e. in front of your studies or your parents, don't worry about it. (I'd be more concerned with Copyright laws relating to your clips, but I doubt that anyone minds though. It was done in fun without wanting to make a profit. I'm not a lawyer though!)
Ok so I went into college today and as I entered the classroom some of the other students started singing the James Bond theme tune at me, as it turned out they had found my Profile on Youtube and viewed my videos, and most of them were my attempts at making my own bond gunbarrel with me as bond, They seemed to think this was really sad of me, and thought it was geeky. For me this was humiliating, I was ashamed. As soon as I got back home for my lunch break I deleted most of my videos on youtube, well the ones of me in the gunbarrel.
Now m question is should I have deleted these videos just because a couple of other people thought I was geeky for liking James Bond? Should I be ashmed because i'm a Bond fan?
I'd really like to know your opinions on this, or if any of you have found yourselfs in similar situations then I would like to know about them and how you went about the situation.
I am probably the only person in my school who likes James Bond, and it can be VERY ANNOYING!! Whenever I'm in an argument people always bring up that i'm a James Bond fan and use it against me 8-)but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter,I'm proud to be a Bond fan and I always will be. LONG LIVE 007 :007)
Wow it's been a long time about two months. Well I tell you what NO shame in it at all. I just bought Casino Royal on DVD and watched them all. I bought a P99 for police duty. As I said on another thred: When I was younger I would dress in my Sunday best and play bond with the other kids. Even now I buy clothes that I see on the Bond movies. Alot of Polos and Kakis. Even now I'm planing a trip to Vegas and got a pair of the swim shorts that where in Casino Royal.
Everyone has a way that they show their Bondness so go for it.
Bond: You don't think I enjoyed what we did this evening, do you? What I did tonight was for King and country! You don't think it gave me any pleasure, do you?
Fiona: But of course, I forgot your ego, Mr. Bond. James Bond, who only has to make love to a woman and she starts to hear heavenly choirs singing.
The times people have been making fun of me, I usually laugh it off and play along, being a good sport. If I were you I would habe walked a couple of feet and then turned to them and point your fingers at them, just like the opening, and then just laugh.
Don't be embarrassed, who wouldn't idolize a man who's good-looking, charming as hell, gets all the girls and could kick anyone's ass?
I bet they are the kind of guy who like 50 Cent and Eminem...
I thought a lot of people's responses (especially Bigzilcho's) were awesome.
Anyway, my friends think my love of James Bond is very nerdy. They give me crap about it every once in awhile. A couple weeks ago, I drove to school with my TLD soundtrack playing really loud. I always drive a couple of friends home after school, and when I turned on the car the tld cd was playing...loudly. They started laughing hard and I quickly turned it down. Then I thought "Why be embarrassed? I love Bond movies, music etc. and why should I should I feel ashamed?" So I turned it back up again and let them enjoy it the whole way home. I also realized that EVERYONE does something that could be considered "nerdy" or "geeky" by other people, and If they don't then they probably don't enjoy anything in life.
Don't be ashamed of who you are. I'm 46 years old and have been since my father introduced me to 007. I saw Thunderball and was hooked from the get-go. The fact that these people are aware enough of Bond to know the Bond theme, the fact that they hang around Youtube and took the time to view your videos, points more to their own geekiness than yours. They couldn't come up with anything on their own, they have no imaginations and they take it out on you. Don't be ashamed of yourself, feel sorry for them.
Or kid them right back. My friends know that I am a Bond fan and while some may roll their eyes,
all I have to do is point out their own idiosyncracies(professional wrestling, the Dukes of Hazzard, Walker, Texas Ranger etc.) to shut them up. Bond is cool. If they're not cool enough to see that, their loss. Above all, Bond is a loner. He values his friendships, h doesn't really need them. They can accept you or not. If not, again, their loss.;)

Have you put your gunbarrell videos back on YouTube?
I'd like to know how many people had got laid by xsticking a video on Youtube. Think the best bet is just to go out.
