Best Espionage/Adventure Movies other than James Bond?

chrisisallchrisisall Western Mass, USAPosts: 9,062MI6 Agent
I really like Harrison Ford's two Jack Ryan movies, as far as I'm concerned, they are the next best thing to my favourite Bond movies. Haywire is recent discovery that, for my money, is way more interesting than either the Bourne or Hunt movies.

What's your call?
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Not sure if this fits the "espionage" category, but I rather enjoyed Ronin.

'Ronin' is by far one of my favorite espionage-themed films. I saw it about three times in the theaters, and countless times on DVD. The spycraft stuff is very well-done, the shootouts are great, and the car chases are really about the best ever done.

The screenplay for 'Ronin' was written in part by David Mamet, who also wrote and directed the underrated 'Spartan,' which has some spy-elements.

You already mentioned the Bourne trilogy, which I love. I did not like the new one with Jeremy Renner.

The first three Harry Palmer films starring Michael Caine are classics, though the best is still the first, 'The Ipcress File.'

One of the best faux-Bonds of the '60s was 'Deadlier Than the Male.' It's light but fun.

There's also two great movies based on Frederick Forsythe novels: 'Day of the Jackal' and 'The Fourth Protocol.' The latter features a great performance by Pierce Brosnan.

'Marathon Man' is a great '70s thriller, and Roy Scheider is one cool spy.

To go slightly off topic, my favorite TV spy shows are 'I Spy' and 'Danger Man' from the '60s and 'Burn Notice' and 'Covert Affairs' from now.

They may not be realistic espionage movies, But I always
    watch them when on TV.
    The Matt Helm Movies
    The Flint Movies
    The man from uncle movies.

For me The Harry Palmer series of Movies is the Best for
Realistic espionage, except "The Billion Dollar Brain " which is
as far fetched as any of the above films.

I Loved The Man From Uncle series when I was a kid.

A Man Called Intrepid was a really well done mini-series.
