I've just seen the Commander Watch sitting in my local AD at list price. The sales guy said they'd sold 8 of their allocated 10. So I'm surprised there's such a mark-up given its still readily available.

I didn't try it on. I'm still not sold on it but I would say it looks much better in the metal than all the pictures I've seen. I liked the box!

Yes that box is nicely done and a better size IMHO. As nice as the recent cases have been, they are just massive.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Sold 8 out ot 10? I would say that is selling damn well considering the negativity

To be fair for every ten negative comments I've seen there has been 2 favourable ones.

Yeah, the packaging is great and the watch does look better in person. Still, not a fan of the watch at all. It's kind of weird how a picture/video can't really capture a watch.

I agree that some of these packages are getting out of hand. My Speedmaster came in a giant box and briefcase. I guess it's cool to get all the extras, including little books related to NASA. It's also an excuse to justify increases in pricing.

Yes but I have a nice big box in the attic full of omega cases which are full of spring bar tools and extra straps and papers! I keep my watches in a ten watch case.
Omega purposely use materials in a lot of their designs to play with light, it's one of the reasons why they are hard to photograph.

The Cobalt ("Blue") Seamaster Professional is a great example of that. Was really surprised when I put it on in person.

then seeing a heap for sale when the LE came out .
This one is really not my 'cup a tea' :# ----Casino Royale PO & Spectre Seamaster are still my favs.

Now that DC has been seen wearing this watch on Colbert, Omega should have no problem selling the rest. Product placement at work.

I think one of the metal NATO tabs has the blue sticker still on it. Like Omega literally passed it to him

I noticed that, too. Say what you will about DC, he's an established watch collector. I can't imagine he'd be caught dead wearing that thing absent certain contractual obligations.

Maybe he thought it'd help the re-sale value :)) :)).
    a reasonable rate of return

He wore Rolex while he was Bond and then that magically stopped (could be wrong but at least I haven't seen it while he's been at public appearances). I don't know Daniel personally but I doubt he'd ever buy that watch out of his own accord or wear it for that matter. They are pushing the product. He's officially Bond again so why not kick it off with the newest Bond watch?

There are serious watch collectors who bought that watch. Generally, the reaction has been negative but of course I've encountered the hipster audience who all of sudden started liking the watch after the negative reactions. There are people who genuinely like the watch as well. I saw this comment on one of the forums about how someone owned a very similar watch as a kid. That comment stood out to me because I had written the same exact thing. I don't know where that watch is but from a distance it could pass as this watch. That there pretty much sums up my thoughts on the watch.

Didn't Daniel wear a Project X Custom Sub as far back as '09?
Then there was the whole debacle about him wearing the original 6538 that Con wore...
I think that in his personal life he does wear Rolex but in public appearances, he wears Omega.
Could be wrong but didn't he wear a vintage Omega in the SPECTRE premiere?
    a reasonable rate of return

We can probably expect the Commander to appear in Bond 25 as well, since it was released just in time before the filming starts...
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,293MI6 Agent
Can't see the Commander making the film, it wont be available to buy then. No doubt Omega will have a fresh watch to market.

Regarding Rolex - he used to wear his GMT and Subs quite often during his Bond tenure and then at some point almost overnight he stopped wearing them. Probably as soon as he came a Omega ambassador as Daniel Craig not just Bond.

Yes he did a 1968 seamaster, which was given to him by Omega 1968 is his birth year, he was also integral in the decision to use the SM300 mca in Spectre.

I expect he only wore it for that one show since it's more or less a Bond watch and he's Bond so he's obligated to wear it at least once being a brand ambassador. Not to read too much into it but perhaps leaving the blue sticker on was his way of low key saying I have to wear this.

I saw the watch in person a few weeks back and it does look better than in the pictures. Still not my cup of tea though.

Not even Omega would be so bold to ask for that to be put in the film. It's just a gap release to make some money. It's not nearly expensive enough anyway. Omega has constantly been increasing the prices on their Bond releases and with the success of the Spectre watch (brilliant marketing to have the Bond edition be the one in the movie) they may do that again. $7500 for the Spectre (worth even more now) and it easily sold out.

OR Omega could throw us a curve ball and do a 90s Bond and release a relatively affordable watch and have it be the best selling watch on the market. With Omega's current leadership, I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

Im pretty sure Dc has a watch collection that includes all of his era bond watches, maybe he added this one purely as a collector.

A friend of mine has been offered one by an Omega Boutique WITH A DISCOUNT!!!!

That should be a hint how badly they sell - he's not even registered there as a buying customer :)

With the news that Apple is in talks to buy Bond distribution rights, I really now find myself favoring this ugly Omega over an Apple watch!
