Well, if we want to look at patterns in the Bond series, another more positive pattern is that EON tends to rebound very well from films that are considered subpar. For example, after the disappointment of QOS, you get the record breaking and critical success of Skyfall.
    For Barbara Broccoli, while I am sure that the $$$ are still her number one concern, seems to care about how the Bond films are now received by film critics and to that end has been much more willing to spend the money and cede more creative power to a name director she respects. It's still a collaborative effort, but the directors during the Craig era appear to have had the most influence since Terrence Young. For me, I'm not worried about who the DP is, etc (it will be a good one/Bond films always attract good DP's) I am just incredibly curious as to what Hodges and Boyle have come up with that prompted EON,MGM, and apparently Annapurna to toss out P&W's script (I know we can all laugh and say well it was a P&W script). Hopefully, it's a corker. -{

We know who is working on the script, who will direct that script and who the US distributor is but hey, keep sayin’ it...

Did I miss something re the US distributor? I thought there wasn't a deal yet. I have read about MGM cutting a deal with Annapurna but I thought it didn't apply to Bond.

In October MGM and Annapurna announced a partnership that didn’t include Bond. In November it was announced that Annapurna had struck a separate deal for 1 Bond film.

Now in the Bond community nobody accepts that and still swears Bond 25 doesn’t have a distributor. As recently as a few days ago and the MGM news Annapurna was still named as distributor. I’ve seen it’s CEO Megan Ellison on business news channels talking about it. So who knows...

    Got a link?

    No strike?

JAMES BOND APOCALYPSE, A BOND-ALYPSE, IF YOU WILL.

I wish people would start calling out people who make claims with no evidence. The claim that there has been an announcement that Annapurna is distributing Bond in the US is false.

There is no confirmed director, Boyle is waiting to see if Hodges script is approved, there is no US domestic or international distributor, and Hodges has not finished the script. That is the situation. And MGM does not have a CEO. That's reality, not what you want to spew on this board without any evidence. Want to make a claim. Include a link.

BTW I enjoyed Quantum of Solace, it's fast paced with lots of action, but it is only 1h 46mins and story wise it's very thin. I think it's one of the shortest Bond movies in a long time. Imagine what more could have been done with an extra 35 minutes, if the movie had been the same length as Casino. Purvis and Wade said they killed off M in their script. I think the P&W Quantum would have been a better story and a better film.

    Is that tone really necessary?

You went into internet attack mode over my claim that Annapurna is the US distributor, which makes me think you completely ignored my exact quote above that said “The Annapurna thing never had an official press release.”

In an effort, however, to get you to calm down, let me take 10mins out of my work day to do a Google News search for you. Here are excerpts from news articles that began with the Boyle news and continued into this week with the MGM news:

“Variety says that since Annapurna Pictures won the distribution rights to the Bond franchise, there has been ‘one last push’ to go after a more well-known name to take the helm. Indeed, the previous deal with Sony came to a conclusion with Spectre, and Annapurna landed the distribution rights after months of wooing the franchise’s producers.“

“MGM in November took a step toward reviving its own domestic distribution infrastructure in a pact with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures to distribute the next Bond pic, although the studio is still shopping for a major distributor to handle the international rollout.”

“At that time, it wasn’t even certain if star Daniel Craig would return or who would be handling distribution in the United States. Since then, Craig has been confirmed and Annapurna Pictures will distribute along with MGM. And yet, a director still remains elusive.”

“Around that same time, several directors were considered to be ‘frontrunners’ for the film but, according to Variety, that changed once Annapurna came on board. Now all eyes are on Danny Boyle, who is developing a film at the moment but has nothing solid on the books.”

Now that I’ve taken the time to give you exactly what you asked for, what do you say you try to bring a little more civility to your posts?

You don't have any idea of what is going on. :s You are basing mostly everything you say on a lack of evidence. That's reality.

Have you stopped to think that not everything that goes on is made public? Where I work, things are talked about for months before that information reaches my department. Then we hold onto that information for months before we tell the public. I would imagine that's typical in any industry. Nothing is going to be confirmed with Bond until the right time, and that is going to be months from now. There's no reason to panic just because EON and MGM aren't sharing their progress with you. You need patience. This autumn is most likely when you will get the information you so desire. The only obligation the Bond series has to fulfill is to release a film in autumn 2019. They have no obligation to tell you who the director is, how far along the script is or who is distributing the film. You are making assumptions on all these things based on spotty source and a lack of information.

Well, people, don't intend to strike... But' it's an option.

Again, you are interpreting things and jumping to conclusions to support your own opinions and dire prediction for Bond 25.
In this instance, the WGA wants to re-negotiate their agreement with the agents who represent them, not the studios.
Could there be a work stoppage? Sure, anything is possible. However, as per the article, the WGA is just beginning to meet internally which most likely will lead to discussions / negotiations with the agents/agencies.
Also, it is possible that there could be a legal challenge made by the WGA.
The bottom line is, all this takes time. Especially if it ends up in the courts.
This is my own opinion, partially based upon my experience in labor relations, unions, contracts, etc (I am a member of a union, have also been a union shop steward/rep and directly involved in with contract negotiations). Nobody likes to strike and not get paid. It's generally the last option.

Someone will you actually go and see this movie when it is finally released?
or is this the fun part for you, all this conspiracy-theorising and panic-mongering?
I'm picturing you munching popcorn and cheering at the screen and booing the villains as you write this stuff, but the actual movie, not so much...

You really are making me nostalgic for the pre-Internet age where we just got on with our lives and were pleasantly surprised when a new movie suddenly arrived at our neighbourhood theatre.

It would've been cool for the stats if Mendes did all the 10s Bond films, just like Glenn did in the 80s. Although, each time I look at Spectre I see more and more flaws. I think it's a good case that we probably have someone new for the job.
Maybe Mendes could return in the future as happened before with Bond directors, but right now I think he's ''played out'', to quote Bond in Skyfall.
I've never seen a film from Danny Boyle except for ''Steve Jobs'' which I really liked. Did he ever directed something as 007? He is quite popular on the internet as far as I've seen. Hell even Mendes isn't really a action film type, so if it's true I hope it will work.

The way I’m personally looking at Boyle is thinking about everyone wondering back in the day if Spielberg could do a “serious” film when he made “Schindler’s List” or if Scorsese could do a family film when he made “Hugo” or even if actors like Kevin Costner could do “Dances With Wolves” or Mel Gibson “Braveheart.”

A good director is a good director regardless of the material. It never would have occurred to me that the director of “American Beauty” would make one of my favorite James Bond films. Danny Boyle would never have entered my mind but what the heck - I say let’s see what he’s got.

Danny Boyle has made movies in many genres. His movies typically have a lot of energy (perhaps a good thing after Sam Mendes) and very good use of music in scenes.
