General consensus is the song is a disappointment in some form or other. Daniel Kleinman has my sympathies.

I've never heard that reason. He was gravely ill in 1989, so he wasn't an option for LTK. I heard that for GE they didn't want to pay him the amount he wanted. He also gave the reason that he could go further creatively with Bond anymore, though if that was the case he should have stopped composing long before he did.

That screeching falsetto is awful, awful awful. The beginning is quite good and if he'd stuck to the lower ranges of his voice it may have worked.

I like the song after hearing it a few times it sounds good to me, it brings me back to the old Bond movies.
It's much much much better than the QoS theme song (but that is kicking down an open door)
Time will tell, obviously, but I'm having trouble picturing this song coming on the heels of what looks to be an action packed PTS. This song sounds like a real buzz kill.

I've held off posting my opinion as I wanted to give the song chance and a few plays before casting judgment.
All I'll say is that it's definitely a grower on me plus over the titles I think it'll work excellently. Instrumentals are great , the only parts which I'm not overly keen on is when the pitch goes rather high , but again it's a grower for sure. Played it a good few times now and I seem to be getting more fond.
In honesty I think it'll be a good theme in time and many may look back at their first judgements once it's been in the film. My 2 peneth anyway -{

QoS had a nice catchy riff / hook despite Jack Whites repetitive screechy vocals. This is simply forgettable at the moment for me. Maybe it will be better with the title sequence visuals but as a stand alone song I'm not impressed so far.

I'm listening to it on Spotify...Is this it? really? ...Tell me this is the drumless version and the official one has a proper sounding drum track,...I don't know. It might grow on me, but the first impression is totally negative. And I must say this is a first in all the years I've been a Bond fan. I've never, ever, not liked a Bond track. Not even Madonna's.

Guess I'm gonna be one of those guys. I love the song. It actually registers instantly as my favorite Bond theme song hands down. I've been wanting a love song from the perspective of Bond for the longest time now, and this turned out better than I expected. To me the song expresses the valnarability with women that the character hides just below his cruel, controlled, self protective surface. To me, the song sums up my favorite aspects of the character that have resonated with me the most. I really get the feeling of meloncoly that comes along with a man who, no matter how hard he tries to find a woman and settle down into a normal life, he just can't. His lifestyle makes it impossible for any relationship to ever work, yet it's his lifestyle that brings him to meet the only kind of women he could ever be able to possibly settle down with. The song is Bond exposed. I love the notional nature of the song. This might not be what most are getting from this, but as with any piece of art, the art will resonate with each individual differently. And, this piece of music has resonated an aspect of the art of Bond that I have always experienced and have always felt was underrated and underrepresented. I'm over the top excited that it has finally been resonated so well. I'm very interested now in seeing how this theme is carried over into the movie.
As a song, I love that there is no real hook. It doesn't follow the norms of song making. It floats along through emotions that are new to being so openly expressed. The song's structure complements the feelings being sung. They definitely did not go the safe route with this one, and I really like that they had the guts to do that, to do something different.

Shirley's voice is haunting and beautiful and can almost bring one to tears, especially with these memorable lyrics. They even put it over the QOS titles and it actually improves them. It's not bad. More of a Sam Smith song than a Bond one -- pretty much what he always sings. The orchestrations make it a Bond song. But this will be a big hit. And I guarantee it will be nominated for an Academy Award.

Hmm - I agree exactly with somebody else above in this thread. Its plodding along "OK" and i can visualise the dreamy dark Skyfall like title sequence but........ when it hits the 1min 28 sec mark his falsetto blows the whole thing and then gets worse.
On the plus side - I'm sure the film is going to be killer!!

They are. Mostly a popularity contest. I made the same prediction about Adele's Skyfall before I'd even heard it, which when I did still didn't seem Academy Award quality but knew it would win because of currency, marketing, and popularity.

Orchestra kicks in - very Bond but does little to Salvage the song
Now this was BFBS radio (British Forces) and the DJ didn't sound impressed either and decided to play Live and Let Die - well say no more!!!
