I agree in. When in doubt size up. I never usually wear 56-58eu Tom Ford. I will have to get 56 for this jacket.

I am going to go for a 46, I believe. I would normally take a 48 but in this case it was too baggy for me.

    Thank you for the info!
So we need to size down I guess.

I think 1 down providing the actual jackets come as per the table. At least TF can do some tailoring then. Too small and u r bu....ed...
It doesnt fit tight inthe film so around 3-5 inches bigger than your chest should be perfect. And you can always layer for a "sock down the trouser" upper body look :))
    Skewered, one sympathises...

wow.... I just measured my G9 Baracuda and my other jackets. The sizing from those I should take a 54 in the bond jacket. I usually wear 56-58 in tom ford. These do run big.

Thanks for the input. I'm also thinking about pulling the trigger on a size 46...trying not to get hung up on the number, but it just feels wrong :#

    I'm normally a 50 but going with a TF 48 for this.

I did a comparison of my medium Royale Harrington, and while the medium lines up with a TF 46 in the chest, the TF has a larger drop from chest to waist. So a bit worried getting a jacket where the waist is too small because you can't really alter that part to be bigger. So decided on a 48 and if the chest is too baggy will get that taken in.

The Royale Medium is quite fitted on me in the chest but perfect everywhere else (waist, body length, sleeves etc).

For a comparison of the size chart versus an actual TF Harrington, check out the dimensions of the leather trimmed 48 Harrington on Gilt.

Mr. E, what kind of fit are you going for? Was the picture from The Man From UNCLE too loose? The sleeves in the picture were a little narrow compared to the fit of a vintage G9.

If the prototype is officially a size "48",

I noticed that the actual measurements are:
22.5 inches armpit to armpit / 20.5 inches waist /
and 26.5 inches in the length (back)

Now the size chart states 22 inches armpit to armpit /
    19.6 inches waist / 25.5 inches length.

Jacket obviously runs large. Maybe going down 1 size
from your normal TF size is the way to go? Thoughts?

I had noticed that also. For me the prototype dimensions work, the listed dimensions on the chart not as well. Stay at 48 or go to 50?

A lot depends on whether TF Milan will guarantee that the dimensions on the chart are a minimum. If it's a bit larger than listed, fine. Either live with it or get it altered. However, if it turns out smaller than listed size then TF had better replace it with one that fits.

I agree Westward, they should be willing to replace a wrong size if their size chart is off.
If the prototype is accurate, I will go with a 46, if the size chart is accurate, I will go with a 48.

Which do we believe is a safer route to go by? The size chart or the actual measurements of the prototype?

I realize tailoring is an option but not everyone has instant access to a TF boutique and personally, I usually don't tailor my jackets.

For me looking at the size chart I have to size down. How different was the Prototype vs size chart. I thought it was accurate for 48

Yes, a little too loose for my taste. I like a trim look with still enough room to move around in. Not too tight, but right on the money.

I think it is safe to say this jacket will run big.

Probably should go 1 size down from your normal TF size.

I just measured my y-3 QoS jacket that is labeled a size "small" and the measurements are almost 1 whole size smaller than the TF 48 prototype. Y-3 is 21.5 inch chest / 19.5 inch waist / TF proto is 22.5 inch chest / 20.5 inch waist.

That's two inches difference in the overall circumference.

    So I'm leaning towards 46.
  • What a headache. 8-)

Hope everyone ends up with the right size.

if Mantis is going 46 that means it def runs large...

TF shouldn't be doing it like this... they should take the elements of the jacket and appropriate them to the standard sizing measurements of their clothing line. A little variation in sizing is always expected (like the TF polo which ran a bit tight and short) or the very first black shawl collar cardi, which ran a bit large) but not the likes of this.

These measurements don't line up with any of their other garments.

I know we all want screen accurate (to a degree) but do we need to have our jackets "sized down" because they did so on set for the movie?

if it just ends up being "size down 1 from your usual size" that's fine, i suppose, but usually that leads to trouble in a jacket because every two sizes, sleeve length gets messed up from body measurements.

Sounds like most of us want to avoid the look of a baggy barracuta but sizing down could lead to a tight chest and short arms....

Simon:do you know if are the sizes of the latest chart taken from jackets they are already made or are they sizes for the jackets that are to be made for us? This may matter in the end-fit ....

You all do realise that Craig's TF jacket was tailored to fit him in QoS. You'll never get that look from an off the peg standardised run. Everyone is a different shape, has longer/shorter arms, longer/shorter body. If in doubt size up and get TF to tailor it to your own specs. That's the only way.

Or you could all chill slightly and await the finalised detailing.

I wear 56-58eu TOM Ford. I have a 2012 TOM FORD Leather Jacket in 58. I measured the jacket and the Bond Harrington in 54 is very slightly larger than the 58 TOM FORD leather jacket. I also have a G9 Baracuta in 46UK which on their website says its a 54eu and its fitted and the Bond Harrington in 54 is slightly larger.

What size are you going with Welshboy?

Sorry on vacation still so still not had a real good look!

If we have to use Tom Ford Chart C as our reference I will simply go by the measurements and ignore the sizing numbers despite usually being a 54 in TF garments.

The proto is renamed to a size 52 on Chart C I take it? (Hence highlighted?)

That's what we thought originally, but now it looks like based on most dimensions the prototype is a hair larger than the 48, which is the proto's labeled size.

So in that case I should be max a 52 (prob my best choice for playing it safe etc)

I think you'd be a comfortable 52 on the latest chart. The 52 matches a lot of the dimensions of the 54 Dunhill Layer Cake. I would worry about the 50 being tight on you, unless you want the Mantis fitted look.

I don't think everyone here is expecting a "perfect" fit.

But an accurate size chart congruent to the specifications of the prototype, in my opinion, really isn't asking that much.

Hopefully everyone who confirmed will still place their order, but TF's "what's done is done" attitude, doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Will they allow exchanges for another size? Allow returns? These are legitimate questions and concerns.
Mantis stated that TF wants to make this process as "fool-proof" as possible. Hopefully they will take the time to clarify some things.

I love the way some of my off the rack jackets fit, are they perfect? No. But they are still the right size for me.

P.S. Simon's last message states that this last sizing chart is the finalized one by TF.

I'm not on the confirmed list, so I guess my opinion is irrelevant, but I just don't think it's a matter of chilling out.

How many Coronas does it take to be "too many"?

Tom Ford does pay homage to Mr. McQueen quite often, perhaps that's why this piece runs on the large side.

    Works for me!

Welshboy has a point Simon. Perhaps you should UNhighlight the size 52 on the size chart. Otherwise people may think that is the prototype's measurements.
