Oh yes, Bondtoys. He is a Legend around here, but some say that if you speak his Name five Times in a Mirror then he appears with blue Trainers and a Selection of fine Watches.

It only just occurred to me today that with Bond 24, if we
Watched one Bond a fortnight, it would take us a full year
To watch the full series. :))
I think that's one hell of an achievement, for a character
started way back in 1953 . Then continuing in print and
Film continually to the present day. {[] with his last film
    Becoming the most successful British film ever. -{

    Yes, it's safe to say by this stage that James Bond will return and is, moreover,. here to stay! -{

Yes, he seemed to be Japanese villain/character of choice in the 1960s. He also starred in a film or episode of The Man From UNCLE.

Here are some numbers I find interesting, especially at a time when police shootings is a hot topic :

    Sweden: population aprox. 10 000 000
    Norway:population approx. 5 000 000

Sweden: the police has carried sidearms since 1965
Norway: the police don't normally carry guns.

Number of times the police fired their weapons in the line of duty by year:

    2003: S - 27 times, N - 1 time
    2004: S - 33 times, N - 5 times
    2005: S - 27 times, N - 3 times
    2006: S - 19 times, N - 3 times
    2007: S - 29 times, N - 0 times
    2008: S - 46 times, N - 2 times
    2009: S - 39 times, N - 3 times
    2010: S - 30 times, N - 6 times
    3011: S - 76 times, N - 1 time
    2012: S - 21 times, N - 1 time

Even if we allow for the difference in population the numbers are clear. I have to mention that Norwegian police have pistols and often submachineguns in their cars, so it's not a case of "no wonder they shoot so rarely, they don't have guns!"
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I'm not a fan of widespread gun ownership, but can understand
The need for an armed police unit. Sadly most of the shooting
Cases from America seem to stem from officers panicking and
Blasting away. When soneone gets shot 12 times that just seems
Like someone emptying their gun into someone. :#

A police force that's normally not carrying weapons isn't possible everywhere, but it does seem to stop them from shooting without thinking twice.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Or perhaps some better training for officers. I was listening to
An interesting debate on Race in America, and several predicted
That the problem of race will divide America for generations. :#
Also no matter where you are in the world it is very, very rare for
A police officer to face any prison time etc for killing a citizen. :#

This is a delicate topic but I can't resist to give my opinion about all this:

    - There for sure is a racism problem in the US society which involves also law enforcement.
However, I am not sure if it's the case here.

Without joking, I think that TP's statement above is a bit unfair. Imagine you are a US policeman alone in your car and you must fear that the guy next to you may likely have a gun to shoot you.

I am pretty sure that US policemen are pretty well trained and do everything not to panic - but they are human and want to return to their families after their shifts.

I may receive a lot of hard feelings from our US friends, but the problem in the US are: GUNS!!!
Most of you know that I hate guns, I refuse to collect them, I try to get around collecting replica and prop guns.

As long as the US public (and there is no majority in the US to limit public access to gun ownership) does not do against these gun laws, things like that will happen on an on.

School massacres, shooting of innocent people by private individuals and policement will happen that often as long as everybody can buy a gun around the corner and have it with him.

One remark about the 12-year-old who has been shot by a police officer in Ohio recently:
My parents taught me not to point a "finger-gun" and not a toygun against everybody.

If I see kids that are doing that - makes me angry! I feel very badly when they do it to me but try to stay calm.

When I am hearing that this guy pointed his (harmless) gun on other people on a playgrouind, I am getting mad! I am getting mad at his parents!
And like I said: He could have a real gun (though the reporting person suspicied that it was a kind of replica - what if he had been wrong??).

Sorry for the rant - this may belong to the rant box ....

    I do agree the main problem in America is " Guns" everywhere. -{
But I do stand by my point Policemen don't have to worry about
Killing people. They will not serve any time ;)
In the same way Politicians, don't do any time, and if they do it
Will be in a Luxury open prison.
Sadly that's how the world works. :# in my experience anyway.

I really wouldn't hold my breath ! This is only happening because it's for Children In Need...Peter doesn't do anything unless he personally gets all the glory...funny how it's now called Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights :v

Plus most of the original locations for this series have now gone...it was all filmed where I live...

I thought he might not want to waste a script, quickly convert it
From a live show to a TV special ? I'm certain there must be a
Big audience for a Phoenix Nights special.
I still watch them and " Max and Paddy" very funny shows. :))

No, Norway is a perfectly normal country. Just look at our TV programs: NRK2 is showing "The hymnbook - minute by minute" right now. The program runs from 11.45 am and will last the whole weekend. It's an atempt to broadcast the singing of all 899 psalms in the Norwegian hymnbook used in our churches. The program will feature about 200 choirs at different locations taking turns to get through all the psalms in 60 hours. Nothing unusual here.

    Any full-frontal nudity in it?

Out of interest Number24, has Norway many religions or mainly
One or two big ones ?

Norway still has a an official church and it's lutheranian. Traditionally that church was almost universal, but now we have a quite large atheist and muslim population along with a range of other belief systems.

Although some of the programmes you've described on
Norwegian TV sound, unbelievably boring ! :))
Garrison Keillor has or had a radio show about life in
Lake Wobegon, and he always had a funny story about
The minister or its people who were Lutherans.
