CR a "disappointment"? TLD "rubbish"? To each his own but I think a viewer who disliked either of those 2 Bond films would probably not care for the Fleming Bond novels either.
Personally speaking, I think TLD and CR are the 2 best Bond films made from 1980 onwards. Each one individually is better than all 4 Brosnan Bonds put together IMHO. I would not have been disappointed if (playing imaginary cinematic timeline here) CR had immediately followed TLD though I would still would have wanted to keep LTK mainly for Dalton's and Davi's perfomances and GE if it had starred Dalton as Bond who it was originally written and intended for.
